Awful Course
This course plays 30 minutes per hole. We had to wait for a golf cart as they were out when starting. Golfers on this course tend to be very loud and not respect golf etiquette. There is no course marshal watching pace of play or beer/drink cart. The bathrooms have no locks, stall doors & bugs. The course layout lends to others hitting at you and on other hole fairways as the setup is awful. The sand traps are rock pits, not sand traps. This is way over priced for the course & I would never recommend playing here.
Great Course, Even Better Staff
Easily my favorite FPG course. Jimmie in the pro shop is super friendly along with the other cashiers, the starter is always on top of it, and the grounds crew are easy going and will always pause to let you play through.
The course is always in great condition. The greens are always tightly mown and have distinct zones/tiers that make different pin placements present very different challenges. Off the tee, there are numerous hazards in play, including fairway bunkers, water (4 holes), and thick patches of fescue that put a premium on accuracy. As an added bonus you'll likely see some great wildlife on the premises too.
In my opinion this course is the best value in Chicagoland, and the staff works hard to keep standards high!
Very good base of a good course
However, flooding still a problem not solved. Just like cranes land but the river, 14,14 etc still flooding filled numerous birds and poops. One Hole's huge fairway sand bunker fulfilled water becomes a big pond!
The Champ is Undefeated.
I play here regularly but I also travel all over the Chicago area to play. At one point this summer Joe Louis was arguably playing as the best course as the greens were running like tournament speed and they traps were well maintained with REAL sand. It’s one of the longest if not the longest course in the area and always a challenge. If you aren’t from the area make the trip for sure.
Solid
One of the easiest to access full length par 72 courses from the city. Quite challenging. Some tough bunker and pin placements, sloped greens. Only big complaint is the fairways are rock hard in several places. I like to walk the course since it’s usually quite busy and no point in driving up fast to each shot just to wait on the group in front
Nice Course!
Course what good condition despite it rained a lot the night before we played. Greens were well groomed. Steady pace for the round. Overall an enjoyable round of golf with my 2 teen age sons. Much improved since the last time I played there about 10 years ago. Definitely will play again.
Surprised
A beautiful GC in Riverdale, IL.
Now I have another great place to play.
There are just enough challenging holes to keep you coming back for more.
3 club challenge
Greens were rolling great even after all night rain. Bunkers had good playable sand. Fairways were in good shape.
Sunday outing
A groitof 26 decided to play here again. We were pleasantly surprised to see how great shape the course was kept. Fairways were well Manicured greens were fast despite the amount of rain that came down overnight. It drained well. Will play there again
Great Shape, Great Greens
Was overwhelmed with how great of shape the course was in. Greens had a roll to them and the staff was excellent.
Joe was in great shape!! It played well even thonit rained all day the day before & was drizzling when My Group of 28 Tee Off yesterday. The rough was not to high could find your ball the fairways was in excellent shape. Greens rolled well even have sand in the traps now I see. Jimmy Chess & Staff have done an Excellent job w Joe Louis. Look forward to bringn the Group back out to play again before season over.
