Great Course, Great Staff
Course was in great condition, staff are very friendly. Lost my wallet on the course and they got it back to me with nothing missing! Bonus points for canned Gatorade
Slowest round of my life
It only took 5 and a half hours for a Saturday round.
Literally the slowest round of my life and it wasn’t because the guy in front of us took 15 strokes per hole.
Best overall experience for your money compared to overpriced courses (i.e. Meadows)
Extremely friendly & personable staff as well as a challenging course makes for an enjoyable experience. Jimmie & his crew are a rare breed providing a rare blend of friendliness with excellent service.
Great value but could be better
I play a lot of golf, well over 200 rounds a year. Joe Louis is probably the best value out there. The staff is always helpful and friendly. The course itself should be on par with the better known and more often played George Dunne, which I'm also frequently at. The greens are just as good and the sand is actually better. What makes it fall behind Dunne is the fairways. There are spots of crab grass and some hard pan areas. I don't blame the staff because they seem to be top notch elsewhere. I blame budgetary restrictions. If more money was given to The Champ, it could really be the Jewel of the Forest Preserve courses. Regardless, this course will always be frequently in my rotation.
Great People
Found a couple of old gift of golf Christmas certificates. They were from 2016 and I wondered if they were still good. Asked Jimmy Chess at the course and he said of course they were still good.My guest and I enjoyed a great round. Jimmy and everyone at The Champ are top notch. Great people great course.
Joe Louis is a solid course to get challenged at an affordable rate.
This course was in moderate condition.
Pace of was horrible 4 1/2 hrs for two people ,foursome in front playing slow would not let us play thru.No Ranger
Bummer
Joe Louis used to be ol’ reliable. You could always find tee times, pay a decent price for what you were playing and the cons were an afterthought. Not anymore. We played over the weekend and left after 12 holes in 3+ hours. The rangers do what they can, but there’s no way around it. If you’re looking for a 6 hour round and a 15 minute wait on ever tee box then this is the course for you.
Back 9 needs some TLC
Great course, but the back nine needs help. Especially the green on 14. But overall I like playing there. Wish they’d keep the grill out longer lol
Good course, slow pace of play
Like all Forest Preserve courses, it's in good shape. However, there was a cluster of groups waiting to tee off on the first hole, and it didn't get any better from there. This is a course where driver isn't always (or even usually) your best option, but try telling that to everyone pulling it out on every tee box and hitting their ball either into another fairway, into high grass, or out of bounds. Five hours to play the round was not fun.
