Great day
Course was in good condition for the time of year wore long underwear shot the best score of my life for 18, 87
Course was in decent to good shape. Greens were soft. Bunkers were nice. Fairways were alright. Some fairways needed to be cut better. And cleaned up of big branches. Overall 7/10
Great Shape for October
The course was in great shape for October. Greens perfect and they have done a real good job of getting rid of the leaves in this beautiful tree lined course. I really have to laugh at the previous review. Hard to blame the course because the weather got foggy. And the real defense to par on this course is the narrow fairways. I always enjoy this course especially the front 9.
Always a good round
Love this course for a quick round. Interesting holes which are set up nicely. Greens are in good shape. Pace of play is usually good and staff is friendly. Good place to take newcomers.
Tried to like it.
Ok, Staff was nice.
Weather started out well. Then a dense fog rolled in. I suspect from all the watering that morning and rain the night before. Course was soggy and I had a hard time tracking the ball.
So with that in mind.
Fairways soggy and beat up.
Tee boxes covered in old tees and destroyed.
They need a chainsaw party to open up the fairways some. Have a hard time getting a decent angle off the Tees. I like a challenge but should be able to have a workable shot off the tee.
Greens are in great shape and rolled perfect.
It must be a local thing but twice I had guys in my fairway just hitting a ball randomly towards me. Opposite direction of play. They were warming up or just practicing. Never seen that before so not so much fun.
It was a shame but by the end of the round I had enough and was just looking to leave.
Tried to like it. tried to keep a open mind with the fog. Was kind of interesting until the other issues sunk the fun. especially other players in my fairway for no good reason. come on guys.
Rochelle GC
Nice wide fairways with plenty of room on the sides in case you hook or slice it. Very well maintained abs will be playing here again soon
Great value for a smaller course
Fairways is a shorter course with a lot of par 3's and 4's. However, the pace of play was awesome, I started at 7 AM and a couple of regulars let me play through. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the greens and fairways were in really great shape. Overall I really enjoyed it and will be back multiple times every year. For the value and challenge of the short design layout, it is great for me to practice my game.
Fairways Golf Course, Rochelle, IL
I try to play this course a few times per year. They usually have a great Hot Deal on Golf Advisor. I always enjoy playing here. It's a pretty short course with multiple par 3's. Greens roll true, and it's a well maintained old school country club with tons of beautiful old oak trees.
It's never too crowded, and I have never been held up by a group when I play here. Clubhouse staff is always nice to.
Nice Little Course with Friendly Staff
Very friendly staff, and nice restaurant. The course was in nice shape, and the greens rolled true. The front nine of this course is typical, and the back nine is mostly par 3s. We were disappointed with the pace of play as groups were teeing-off on 10 in front of us as we came off of 9.
Fairway golf course
Course in good shape with off fairway heavy and thick grass. Hard to find ur golf balls. Very scary between two and three. Came off green into the tee area for three as someone was hitting. Need a sign warning players or someone will get hit head on. Very scary for us. Players dragged on so we played front nine again. Otherwise it would of taken us five plus hours to finish.
change of space
fun sporty course with lot of variety; only 5000 yards from back tees but mature oaks and doglegs more than make up for the shortness; average golfers are no way going to shoot close to par even though
the course has 8 par 3; very good values can be found to play this course; you should give it a try and keep it on your list to come back to if you live close
A good beginners course
It seems I was the only one who didn't get the memo, the course was very basic, nothing like the country club play they promise. Full of those who can't hit the ball 50 yards and wouldn't let me play through. The staff were friendly. If your handicap is under 25 leave it for those who's are
There are better choices.
The park district has taken control of this short course. Fairways are over watered for being in the shade. A great deal of rotting stumps and roots make the rough a likely place to lose a ball. Open woodchuck holes dot the rough also. The club house has closed down, so food and beverage choices are from a reach in cooler in the pro shop. There are 3 better choices in the Oregon, IL area for your golf fix.
A Throwback
A nice old-school course. Although the back nine is more of a par three course I still love playing here for the interesting dog legs and excellent(small) greens. This course is not for bombers(or those who pretend to be) but just a real fun old fashioned golf course in very good condition. Although we rode, it is very walk-able as well.
Leaves, Squirrels and Train Horns
After a round at Lost Nation earlier in the day the weather was so nice on my way back to Chicagoland I stopped in at Fairways for a bonus unexpected 18 holes with the season about to end.
It was a nice sunny Friday afternoon - the course was basically empty so I plunked down $15 to play this short course par 66. The course is predominately a large oak forest with hundreds of squirrels stocking up for winter. Appears they haven't cut down a tree since this was built and planted even more! Most difficult to get depth perception in the late afternoon with all the shade and low sun. The track was in extremely nice shape/well maintained....the greens especially were very smooth with good speed (probably due to lack of play) and the course seemed to be very overwatered as mud was on my tee ball most of time......I'm amazed with all the shade on this course that the grass and greens grow so vigorously. The leaf rule comes into effect even in some fairways this time of year and there were a few greens with so many leaves on them that it wasn't worth trying to clear them up on some putts (but due to the lack of play I can see why they only blow the greens off in the morning prior to cutting them). It's a nice course to work on your short iron play and shot routing under trees to some very small greens.
Extremely claustrophobic in several areas - other players, cars on the highway, cars in the parking lot and houses can easily be struck and/or damaged by less than proficient golfers. Lots of freight train and train horn noise (it may have been the way the wind was blowing). Two par 5's ( both on the 2900 yd front, par 36) and those are about the only two holes you want to pull out a driver on (if you dare). Back nine is a Par 30 with 3 par 4's all of which are around 300 yards so it's short/very tight/really sporty with little elevation change. If the course was crowded I'd probably go "bonkers" and not be real pleased as pace could be be real slow. I got around in a slightly over 2 hours so it was like having my own little backyard practice course. During the summer this place would be a bucolic walk in the shady park type of course for beginners/novice players. Nice folks in the clubhouse and the restaurant....very welcoming. The golfing gods smiled upon me and I got to experience this place on the best terms I could wish for.
Recommended for practice or a nice walk in the park....anticipate nice maintenance, nice folks and you'll wish you brought your chainsaw. 3 stars.
