Great Value
Had a great day with no pressure and excellent conditions.
Nice long course
Very fun and challenging. Like always hit it straight and you'll have a blast !
Atwood days
The course is in the best shape I have ever seen it. The greens are the best in the area at this time. In my past rounds they were decent but a little on the bumpy side . Today they were firm and like a pool table, and consistant from one green to the next. Fairways were also in great shape considering we have not had much raing for growing. The bad, is still the sand traps,, no sand traps should have rocks in them, especially ones that are sometimes 2 inchs or bigger..
Very Forgiving
Pretty wide open so those errant tee shots can be made up. Greens and sand traps need a lot of work. No one on the course pace of play was excellent.
Good value
Greens and fairways in good shape for beginning of the year.
This course has a great staff!
Great price great value. Sandy in the golf shop was outstanding. Got every one going out in time despite a freeze warning!!!
very gracios fairways
Even though we played in 30 mph winds
This course was already challenging. With doglegs and undulating greens that will test even the best players .the course has a beautiful layout and very large greens which help for every level of play .a great course for the money.a great play
Great layout with little water - last four finishing holes a good test of golf
Great course layout but this tract needs some basic maintenance like leveling the tee boxes - receptacles for broken tees(tee boxes looked like trash bins)- Sand in the sand traps(just dirt in most cases- some traps are washed out- standing water pools-poor drainage)- generous greens - nicely mowed fairways and greens for muni course
Terrible sand traps
The course is in good shape except for the sand traps around the greens. There is very little sand in the traps and seems to be mainly dirt. There are also large stones in the traps making it tough on your equipment to hit your ball out of the traps.
me like, me go again soon
First time out to a county course this year. Excellent price for the round thru golf now even with that bogus fee they came up with this year for every round. I don't mind the first 10, but all rounds, na, , Course was in the best shape I have ever seen it.. greens were in great shape although some people are just to good to fix there ball marks. You idiots can stay home !!
40 years later, still a great course
I played Atwood Homestead in high school and in my early 20's. It was a young course then, with newly planted trees.
The course has grown up well! It's a good play with four sets of tees, huge and well groomed greens. A good course to play.
Best Greens in the area
I have played all three of the county course over past ten years or so. I would have to say that Atwood is probably in the best shape that any of the courses have been in in awhile. I used to play ledges all the time but recently have started venturing out. The greens and fairways were in excellent shape. The bunkers were sub par but I was pleased with the look and condition of the rest of the course. The greens were quick and true. I would say that they might be the best in the area at this time. Several maintenance guys were working on the greens. I really like seeing that. Alot of tall grass on the course but it looked well maintained. Really enjoyed playing Atwood again.
I Absolutely LOVED the Leangth Here.
I played this course in the scorching heat of summer at 3pm on a Saturday, with humid conditions. But hey for great price to walk this course I found my rate like stealing my round here. I knew I would go to back black tees for fun and see how this course would shape to my golf game. And playing the back tees here is a major difference from playing from the whites here. Rated almost a 75 here, I knew I would be hitting driver, and a lot of three woods to the greens. Course was in decent shape, roughs were a little higher than I like to see. nice fairways, and the greens were in excellent shape, but I found the greens pretty flat here. and about average size, but the ball rolled well here off the putter. I holed out with a 40 on the front side, its not very difficult to play. But I got some water as I made the turn and walked down the hill and up to hole 10 and the heat started getting to me, sweting a lot, and having club grip slipping, But the back is very nice layout. I hit well but the walking the long distances and swetty hands made it hard to really drive it to max flight for me, Holed out with a 47 on back and holing out with a 87. I left a lot of shots on the course I normally make. In all was my favorite Rockford Park District course thus far. was a lot of fun to play this course would recommend it big time.
What happened!?
The Winnebago County Park District golf courses used to be an excellent place to play and have a positive golf experience. Over the past several years the course conditions and attitudes have declined. On a Sunday golf lessons are allowed to slow play to a screeching halt. On a Sunday groups are allowed to play as 5. On a Sunday groups are allowed to play scrambles which also bring the pace of play to a dismal crawl. Etiquette dictates that no one cares if you're a terrible golfer, however it does mention keeping pace with the group ahead of you. No rangers work on the weekends or if they do they don't care. Probably won't go back until I hear things are different. What a shame, Atwood used to be a great place.
Challenging course
Great value, greens are in excellent condition, food and beverage concession is only drawback, opens 2 to3 hours after first tee time, not a plus for such a nice facility.
Good trek for the money
Open course with solid greens. Well bunkered, some sand variation but no complaints.
Beautiful Course Beautiful Day
We played this course at 6:30 am and road in under 2 1/2 hours. It is an absolutely beautiful course and was an excellent day. The surroundings are beautiful. Several workers were manicuring the greens, cutting the fairways and the rough. I look forward to playing this course again.
I highly recommend this course any time, any day, to anyone. Have fun.
Great condition
All the recent rain has the course in prime condition.
