Macktown Golf Course

Nice short course. Really buggy. Need to keep grasses cut

This course is in pretty good shape, considering there is still some snow mainly in the shade of the tree lines. Best time to play here is early spring. The insects get bad around June

Macktown is a County Forest Preserve course, so it's out there. Go searching for wayward shots on perimeter holes and you'd best bring some insect repellant. But, the remoteness delivers peace and quiet. Nice layout with elevation changes. Short, no sand, wide fairways. The trick is playing short onto the front of the greens and putting uphill. Virtually all of them slope back to front. All are rolled, healthy and tight...leave your ball above the hole and a missed putt will not stop for awhile. So that's one reason to be short. All of the greens are small and any trouble is behind them, which is the second reason to play short. Play Macktown correctly and you can kill it. Over clubbing and putting downhill, Macktown will frustrate the (accurate word deemed inappropriate) out of you. Course personnel are nice and straightforward-delightful.

This is sort of our go to course when we want to have a fun round. Yardage is such that you can reach many greens in regulations but there are holes where you have to use some strategy for your approach.
Nice mature course with lots of trees and prairie.

I'm from out of town, and I've played Macktown a few times. I enjoy the course, although many of the holes are somewhat repetitive. I wish there were more than 2 tee box options. The fairways and greens are in great condition, which was great. My GolfNow reservation was inexpensive, quick, and easy, and was registered at the clubhouse with no problem. All in all, a fine experience!

Love this course built in the 1930's. Very challenging without being long. Yes you will score lower than your normal course and still have fun doing it. I'm not saying that there aren't a few holes that can bite you, there are. The 17th hole is one of the toughest par 3's in the area. Overall a very enjoyable experience.

I come to this area about twice a year. What a pleasant discovery. I will play again.

Nice course for shorter hitters. The greens had been dressed and no one told us.

Macktown is a good local course. The greens are in good shape if a little slow. Some of them are very difficult to deal with particularly #17. Too tricked out. Overall a pleasant experience.

One of the better courses in northern Ill. Its a public parks course but taken care of very well. It will challenge you on some holes and has a "risk/reward" on other holes.

this course is always in great shape. the people that work there are always nice to deal with. it easy a course you can score well on and will have a great pace of play.
