Fun course, poor condition
The layout of this course is great. Decent length from the back tees (only had blues open today). Many opportunities to challenge water and cutoff doglegs. Unfortunately the course should serious evidence of no maintenance. Tee boxes were overgrown and full of weeds. Greens had many spots with no water for weeks. Not sure if management has changed recently but it’s disappointing to see a wonderful course slip away. Hopefully they can invest and get the course back to championship level it’s been at in the past.
Fantastic!
Played Ironhorse on Monday and they were aerating the front nine so I had to play the back nine twice. The back nine was in great shape and it was a perfect fall day, sunny and a bit breezy so club selection was key. The greens were excellent, not too fast and well maintained.
The staff was super friendly! Best deal in town as I grabbed a hot deal for $11 on Golf Now which included a cart.
Beatuiful course
Not a boring course like most cheap courses in central IL. Windy, some water in play, and greens are small with undulation. One of the best course i have played at the 20-30USD range.. No trees at all, but if you go too far left or right the knee high rough makes it impossible to find your ball. Fairways, greens, short rough are all in good condition.
Nice greens.
Fun course. It had rained 2 “ a couple hours before we played. Cart path only was understandable. Still had a great time.
Great Course
Love this course a beautiful well maintained Links course.
Awesome!
Former golf pro.
I highly recommend this track to all.
Low price high quality!!!
Nice place to play
I like to play different courses as we travel. I enjoy a challenge, but I'm no pro.
I chose iron horse because of good reviews, reasonable slope,, and location. Illinois is a farmers paradise , flat and somewhat featureless. The impression from the outside is manmase features in the middle of farm country. Don't be fooled. The features feel natural and provide plenty of challenge plus the course is well maintained. Try it , you'll enjoy it.
Great course for friendly wagers.
Fun course with lots of challenges. A lot of risk for reward holes. Plenty of water and always windy. Will test most of the clubs in your bag.
Awesome course
The course is an excellent shape better and I've seen it before. Most definitely will go back again two play again shot really well greens are really soft Fairways nice and green
Great scoring course
I hadn't played IronHorse in 5+ years & forgot how nice it is!!
We have played 2 times in a week and really love the layout, big and true rolling greens and scoreabilty of the course. I really like the diversity of the holes-- you don't just pull out a driver on all the par 4/5's-- it makes you think.
Great course to post a good round on.
Only (and I mean only) drawback were the bunkers- they definitely need attention; plenty of sand in them but also weeds & grass.
Clubhouse guy isn't overly friendly but for $21 on GN it's a steal and well worth the hour drive!!
We will be back--probably next weekend.
Great Golf Course
We enjoyed our day at Ironhorse! The course was in great shape and we had a great time!
Course is in great shape.
Had a great day on the course and the course is looking way better then last year at this time. Live the improvements.
Summer Condition in Early Spring
I can't say enough good things about the conditions at Ironhorse for March. The greens run true; they were a little slow but they are large and personally I had at least four 3 putts. Be sure to hit enough club on approach. The course is scenic with lots of water, but if you hit straight, you won't have to deal with it. I will surely play it again. He staff is great. We felt welcome which is not always the case when we play on a GolfNow Hotdeal.
Great layout, subpar conditions
I played as a single and finished in less than 3 hours. Had to play through about 4 groups, so if my gf would have been playing then the round would have taken closer to 5. The layout is fantastic, with well designed green complexes and plenty of strategically placed hazards to gobble up your stray shots. Lots of water comes into play off the tee, and some OB as well. The greens were in nice shape, albeit somewhat slow. The fairways on the other hand were awful. Not much grass, mostly weeds. No drinks out on the course. Overall I'm happy because I only paid $13. Would play more if I lived closer.
Outstanding Course
The course is outstanding but difficult for a high handicapper. The greens were excellent and putted very true. The tees and fairawaus were terrific.
Fun golf course
Fun course to play with a lot of water hazards and hills. Friendly and helpful pro shop staff. Wash room on course could use some servicing and some patches were noted on the greens. Fairways in good condition. Very fast pace of play and great rate on Golf Now. Would like to play this course again.
Tougher than expected
Played this course for the first time and found it surprisingly tough for the slope rating. Lots of water that created visual intimidation, plenty of sand, and big greens that made for some long putts. Course was generally in good shape, but there were some bare spots on and around some greens. Pro shop and snack bar staff were friendly. No beverage cart (none needed) and restrooms on course weren't in great shape. Played as a twosome and had to let a couple singles play through but still finished in about 4 hours despite struggling on a few holes. Good value for price and we will try it again someday.
In Better Shape than Before
Played course about a year ago just after greens aeration, so experience somewhat diminished by that. Returned for a 4th of July round this year and course was in fine condition despite heavy local rains over the weekend. Pace was decent for a holiday but was probably lessened due to inclement weather. Greens and fairways were in pretty good shape. Few more rough spots on the fairways than on the greens but anything under $30 is a deal here if you can pay that.
