Good course and it is reasonably priced on weekdays and easy to make tee times
Upgrade from last years play!
See my review dated 8/14/20 below. Pleased to advise Midlane has shown some significant improvement in several areas since our visit last summer. I rated Midlane 3 star - now upgrade it easily to 3.6.
The guy who checked us in at the new dedicated Pro shop area was absolutely awesome and made certain we were welcome and put our group in the right frame of mind prior to starting our round. The bar restaurant areas has been refreshed and they have several options besides the usual hot dog/brat/chips. Just call ahead on your cell phone - order from 9th tee please...... so our group who was behind you is now waiting for your group at 10th tee to show up while we wait to start our back nine. One cook and one bartender who was also waiting on tables ordering full lunches. It was really busy for them and both were doing a bang up job. Coolers on the cart that you can drag in and get ice/beverages. Appears you might be able to shower post round if needed as a full locker room was open no longer cluttered with furniture storage behind the men's room. We received excellent on course beverage service - suspect this is on weekends only. Above average driving range off grass that's the same as fairway grass.
Midlane has "findable" water hazards on 15 holes It's a burly 132 slope whites - recommend most play from white tees but don't. Really obvious that group in front of us really didn't enjoy their day playing from the tips. Holes play longer than their scorecard yardage - several greens do not appear to that raised up from fairway or tee box - .make sure you hit an extra club or two on most approach shots ....fronting areas of several greens the ball will not roll out as much as you think it will. The course received some rain on Friday so the ball wasn't rolling out very far on the fairways Tee boxes on some holes ripped up, sand trap maintenance sketchy and most traps need a sand refresh. Greens were significantly in better shape than last, holding okay if you hit them on the fly to center of green...nice speed but many greens just keep getting smaller in size featuring 5 ft strips of fringe around them which was at one time putting green length. Here's hoping the ground crew will consider moving the greens back to their original sizes.....your Garmin or golf watch may be by as much as 5 yards front edge and more so 5 yards off to back edge due to shrinkage. Several burly challenges - many will be hard pressed not to lose a sleeve or more of balls.
All in all we had a very nice afternoon at Midlane and thank you! Recommend play and heck I might ever return prior to end of season - really nice to see so many improvements. $40 value.
Course simply needs more work…
Disappointed in condition of course after last playing here over a year ago. Fairways are better in some respects but need more attention. Sand traps are in poor condition for the most part with some having little to no sand. Greens were in decent shape over all. Some of the tee boxes were heavily divoted and lacked attention. Renovations inside the club house including the pro shop are a big plus!
Hopefully, additional maintenance to the course will enhance the appearance of the course in the months ahead!
Hidden Gem (another)
Yet another great playable track in the Northern suburbs of Chicago that doesn’t get a whole lot of play. Fairways and greens are well maintained.- tee boxes could use some leveling. Not an overly tricked out layout. Straight forward design where you can miss and still make par. Fairways roll for days. Greens medium speed and massive.
Great job by the crew that makes this place a well worth drive.
