St. Andrews Golf & Country Club - Joe Jemsek Course
About
There are two championship golf courses available at St. Andrews Golf & Country Club in West Chicago as well as a top-ranked practice center. The Joe Jemsek Course, formerly known as the Lakewood, was added in 1929, three years after the club opened. Unlike the original St. Andrews Course, the Joe Jemsek Course has a hillier terrain. Although it is shorter than the other golf course at 6,770 yards, the elevation changes make it seem similar in length to the 6,920-yard St. Andrews Course. The course features tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers, offering plenty of challenges but overall it is not an overly intimidating layout for beginners. There are several long and demanding par 3s throughout. The best example being the tricky second hole, which has a green that is guarded by two deep bunkers and towering trees.

Rude Rangers
Our foursome was rudely approached by the ranger because we were one of the only groups walking on a Saturday morning. He lazily singled us out and asked us to pick up the pace even though he wasn’t sure where the coarse was being held up at clearly. We couldn’t go any faster because of the group in front of us. We were also playing best ball with a group of 4 golfers all around an 8 or less handicap.
Good value but SLOW (always)
There’s no excuse for how slow the course plays.
The rangers never say anything to groups holding up play. All you need to do is have a ranger sit under the tree every 6 holes and tell the group if they are behind. Simple. Come on St. Andrew’s … make the game more enjoyable!!!!
Boring and Overpriced
Honestly, this course is just boring (Joe Jemsek). Theres nothing about it that stands out and the carts are from the 90s. all par 3s were almost 200 or more yards, which isn’t a complaint necessarily, just wished for more variety for the price I paid. The course amenities as a whole are nice and they offer a lot. I would recommend everything about the facilities except the golf courses. Theres are much nicer courses out there for half the price.
Monday play
Course was in really good shape especially the greens. Some confusion regarding names of courses which are different from what the proshop tells you and what the courses are named on signage. Haven't played there in years and look forward to returning again this year. Well worth the money.
Great shape!
Course was in great shape. Greens were not beat up. I was pleasantly surprised by the course. Haven’t played it in years but it will be s regular track from now on
Not Handicap Friendly
The course has taken the position that you can't drive their carts to your vehicle for whatever reason. Handicap parking is limited up fron and requires that you pick up an already heavy bag that may be filled with things for you to survice on if you are a diabetic. They offer NO Sugar Free/Caffeine Free drinks except water. Walking with the clubs if you have two bad legs is difficult both before and after the round. They require you to drive the cart back behind the building and then walk back to your car. A task more difficult if you are 70 and disabled.
Nice course
Course was very nice. Only problem I had, is that I talked to someone a week ago to set up 2 foursomes for out of town guests (relatives). The golf date was for June 22nd. I was told I had to wait until 2 weeks prior (8th). I came in on the 6th to confirm. I was told the 22nd was booked solid and I couldn't get on until late afternoon. I have to find another course to play because we were trying to get out around 11 am. Disappointed.
Great course, great staff, but slow play
Enjoyed the entire round - perfect day, great course, friendly staff... everything was great! The pace of play was a little slow (4 1/2 hours) which was fine for us. Unfortunately, the 2-some behind us were intolerable and miserable to be around. Lighten up!
Like playing this course the 17and 18 holes still kicks my back end Grass off fair ways Needs to Mow and sprayed for weeds I usually don’t lose Balls I lost 4balls just hitting little off fair way I understand you have to make a little more challenging however it’s kind of long Cart Rental is almost one of highest I seen in Chicago Area I enjoy the course the Front Course is my better choice
