Nice course, good condition
FCCC is a nice old course that is somewhat challenging. I am a high handicapper and there are holes that are a challenge for me but there are also holes that are "easy". I hit the pin on #16. It took me 4 shots to get to the green on #10. But I really like the course. It is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. The staff is friendly. Bring a dog treat for the dog that hangs out there. It's a fun course to play and I highly recommend it.
Excellent Course
The course is in very good shape. One of nicest courses in Southern Illinois. Fairways were in near perfect conditions, and greens were as well. Challenging and fun course to play.
GOOD TRACK
Good course outlay but condition is pretty poor. In their defense, wetter than normal. Fairways are thin, needs fertilization. Generally similar to most southern Illinois courses relative to condition. Way too much clover and various other grasses in fairway and rough.
worth playing for the back 9 alone
It's worth playing for the back 9, which is a classic Langford/Moreau design from 100 yrs ago. It has all their typical features: big fall offs around the greens, massive fairway bunker walls, intricate/interesting green complexes. The back 9 is on a better piece of land too, rolling, ridges through it. The front 9 is newer and just average, fairly flat and bland. The greens were in good shape. The fairways were hit or miss, with a lot of bare spots.
Always challenging and fun
Love the course layout. The condition was great as always and the greens ran fast and true.
Top golf course in Southern Illinois
I definitely think this is a must play when finding a course in Southern Illinois. Maintained greens, medium difficulty, and friendly staff. Golf carts could use a bit of an upgrade. A lot of them have hit and miss parking brakes.
Newer Front/Historic Back nine
Franklin County is a very well maintained track just north of Marion off I-57 in West Frankfort. An absolute must play if you're visiting or driving through that area. I'm a huge fan of Langford/Moreau golf course design and the back nine of this course built in 1922 is a architectural gem of golf....L&M disciples should seek this place out they won't be disappointed. Solid bones and well thought out golf holes. The front nine is okay....a decent nine but pales in comparison. So the routing is correct you have something to really look forward to making the turn.....or perhaps if you don't have the time slip on that back nine. Play it!!
Nice playable interesting course
Is a combination of early design and recent 9 addition it is fun to play the front line where they have placed sand and grass bunkers in strategic spots using dog legs to complicate some shots.
When you get to the back 9, you get to play the old course which clearly follows the lay of the land. There are lots of ponds and small lakes on the course but they seldom come into play.
It doesn't matter if you get on from a long iron approach or a tricky wedge shot, you have some neu interesting greens to deal with.
I look forward to playing here again.
Well kept course
Very well kept golf course with nice tee boxes ,excellent greens. and friendly staff. Some fairways seems a little burnt because of excessive spring rainstorms, but will become better as the Sumer goes on. I will play there once more before heading back hole. Highly recommended.
Franklin County Country Club is Southern Illinois finest golf course. Established in 1921, this 6,600 yard layout provides a test of golf for players of all skill levels. Rolling greens and beautiful fairways make this a "must play" course in Southern Illinois.
Course is in great shape
Course has improved greatly over the last few years. One of the nicest courses in Southern Illinois!
great course
The course was in excellent shape , although due to the rain , it was cart paths only . But this was not a problem .
