Cantigny Golf - Hillside/Woodside
About
Cantigny Golf boasts 27 holes of scenic and challenging golf. The holes are divided into three nines that are named after the features of the landscape: Lakeside, Hillside, and Woodside. The nines are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Hillside/Woodside course features plenty of elevation changes as well as an abundance of hardwoods, mature oaks, and ash trees. More than 100,000 flowers provide a colorful accent to the golf course. Strategically placed bunkers border the undulating greens and there are also a few water hazards coming into play. All three courses provide a challenging round but they are playable for a range of skill levels. It is an excellent place for tournaments. In the past it has been host to the US Amateur Public Links and numerous USGA qualifiers. It is also a good place for juniors with a golf academy and a nine-hole youth links golf course.

Cantigny #1 in my book for many reasons
Bought through Golf Now a foursome, but it was raining and cold so two of our four cancelled...still waiting to hear back from Golf Now about our credits.
My son and I played, the weather had scared most folks away so it was wide open and FUN! Played from the blues which is long for me but short for my son, who had to change from driver to other shorter clubs on many tees, despite the lack of roll from rain. He has played the yellow tips previously.
The greens were perfect and rolling true. Players here seem to pay attention and repair their divots, atypical for most public courses so #KeepItUp ! Our match ended even so the post match cocktail was extra tasty in the Cantigny bunker where we watched some pro golf on tv.
Go try Cantigny, a privately owned club, open to the public, which supports veterans with discounted fees thanks to the family of Colonel McCormick. Why is the government in the golf and restaurant business anyways?
Great condition
Crazy well kept for how early in the season it is.
Beautiful course but a few minor issues
We played Hillside and Woodside and the latter being the more challenging of the two. The course was in great shape. We enjoyed the round but had a couple of minor things that could have been changed. First, the course was pretty dry but they allowed "cart path" only. I understand they don't want the course damaged but, in my opinion, it should have been a 90 degree rule. The cart path only made the round excessively long. Second, they did not have any ball washers operational. I'm not sure why. Fortunately I brought a damp towel with me. They also didn't have a beverage/snack cart nor did they have the halfway house open. I had to go to the clubhouse to grab a hotdog, which not only was expensive but cold.
Excellent course
Great day for John and Bill to golf played in November course was in great shape barely any leaves was able to wear shorts Staff was great Tim was out there raking the bunkers by hand because the guy in front of us cannot find a rake excellent service have never seen that in all the years I've golfed first class
Well worth the $
Great experience starting from bag drop to pace of play and up to getting back my Wingman (forgot it…again). Played Lakeside-Hillside and the course has plenty of challenges to keep you on your toes. Staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful.
Just don’t go for the chicken wrap at the turn. It’s close to frozen and with only breading instead of the chicken.
Beautiful course
Gorgeous course, perfectly maintained, and very courteous staff.
I lucked out.
I scheduled this tee time for a quick post-work 9 hole round and got pretty lucky with my day. I was on the good end of a tee sheet mixup, so the starter ended up letting me play by myself on Hillside rather than Woodside. Groups were good about letting me play through. 9 hole twilight price was comparable to other courses in the area, which usually isn’t the case for Cantigny.
Pretty intimidating place for an amateur player, especially when it’s your first time being there. Lots of talented/formal golfers using the facilities and interacting. On top of that, there are a ton of facilities so you have a lot of options to go get practice. Pro shop is pretty expensive - I’m not getting anything until I post a good score here.
Course layout was fun but nothing too unique from other courses I’ve played. Played from the blue tees and was surprised that the course wasn’t very long. Tee shots pretty much always need to be straight, and fairway bunkers are placed to hinder above average distance off the tee. Greens were slow but that’s expected after a good rain earlier in the day. Hole 9 was extremely soggy approaching the green. Lots of pitch marks left on the greens.
I expected a stuffy and snobby staff but everyone was pretty nice and helpful. Overall had a great experience but a lot of that is thanks to being sent out as a single. I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much playing in a random foursome.
Beautiful Golf Experience
Incredible course, amenities, and atmosphere. The three different themes of the 9 holes courses play well and are all scenic. Course was a little dry but that is true of any course in the area recently. Definitely would love to play here again and again
