Another fun round
I've reviewed this one before a couple years ago, and not much has changed from a review perspective although the course is under new ownership. The new owners have done some remodeling to the club house which gives it a nice facelift. The course also has a new theme going with bright colors in the clubhouse and all pink flags on the pins. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but it is unique enough that it actually works well for the course.
Course was in good shape. The tee boxes are still not flat on most of the holes and they sit in more of a dome or rounded fashion. The ball sits above or below your feet on most tee shots. These tee boxes have been like this forever, so this isn't something I think will ever change. The greens were moderately paced and the rough was thick. I took a smooth triple bogey on #1 which is a monster of a hole to start on. Swallow your pride and hit an iron off the tee. You'll thank me later.
Play Albany and say hello to the new owners. They will appreciate your business!
Nice Course
Albany is a nice course about 15-20 min NE of Muncie. It was in solid shape, save for some small patches of water damage here and there. Greens were sneaky fast and most tilted back to front, though some had little side boards too. Stay under the hole! Lots of subtle breaks out there.
I do agree with the other review that #1 is a very difficult hole and is extremely narrow. 18 is as well, and commits the sin of having a tree in the middle of the fairway for no reason other than to provide a pointless block for a good drive - major design flaw in my opinion. Otherwise, the layout is a little eccentric and mostly open with some 90-degree doglegs and perfectly straight holes mixed together. Can be scored upon if you're having a good day.
If you're in the area it's well worth a stop. Good value, and nice clubhouse/patio for drinks.
Muncie's Best Value
I have yet to ever find a single golf course that I can play regularly for under $25 with a cart anywhere. This course is fairly flat and it can be scored upon especially on the back. The first hole is the toughest starting hole in Delaware county. It is a very tight hole, so don't hit driver unless you can frozen rope it. The pond in front of the green is also a ball collector.
The course sits in a little neighborhood with ranch style houses right off 67 in Albany. The course is always in immaculate shape as the staff takes pride in their work. There are lots of birdies to be had on this course as all of the par 5s can be reached in two with a couple nice shots. The 5th hole is a dog leg right that and the corner can be cut leaving you a short iron in. 15 and 16 are both drivable par 4s, so there is plenty of chances to go low on this course.
If you get the chance to play here , do it.
