FAIRWAYS GETTING BURNED OUT -- GREENS ARE SUPER SLOW
I have played IU 10 times so far this year, and I would now avoid the course until late August or early September.
Why?
Several fairways are now dead or dying. The grass is gone. This always happens at IU in late July, and this year is no different.
And what made things even worse, was the condition of the greens. I doubt they were running even at a 5 on the stimpmeter the day I played. BUMPY AND SLOW. I thought I was at Chambers Bay for the US Open, the greens were so bad.
Mr. True
Course was in prestine condition. The course makes for a great challenge for any amateur golfer. Word of advice, keep them out of the trees. The price will always be worth the round. The course offfers true veiws of Bloomington, lots of wildlife for viewing. I would recommend this course again and again.
Narrow fairways, park-like setting.
I enjoyed this course. The fairways are narrow due to tree branches extending over the rough. It is great course for me to focus on hitting the ball straight. Not a great course for big wild swingers, but nice setting to lose a few balls if you don't hit it straight off the tee. I plan to plat it again.
Very nice course
The course is a very nice course the bunkers were in great shape the greens were good the course is very green we enjoyed our round
Some good, some bad
The fairways were in great shape, and the greens were too. Although several times I saw my ball skip across while I was putting.
Also, they need more markers out there. It's a real disadvantage if you don't have a gps type system that can tell you the exact yardage. They have the boulders for 150, but why not throw down red 100 yd and blue 200 yd stakes? Would really like to see this!
BEST CONDITION IN LAST 5 YEARS
Fairways and tee boxes are in great shape. Bunkers are well-maintained and the greens are rolling nice. I have played here 8 times in 2015 so far, and yesterday the course was almost picture perfect.
Rough conditions at a nice course
Course had lots of unmowed rough, played long. Greens were deadly slow. I bet it will be nice in 2 weeks.
DEFINITELY Improved Since Last Year
I have played this course 4 times so far in 2015, and they have definitely improved things over last year.
Greens have varied. Today was the slowest so far this year. I probably caught them right before cutting, because they have been faster this year than today.
BUT STILL NOT FAST ENOUGH
Fairway and bunkers are in very good shape. Today the rough was very long on the the front (at least 3 inches) but they had cut the back and it was more manageable.
Tee boxes are also in good shape.
NICE WORK!! KUDOS TO COURSE STAFF!!
several blind shots
Course was in good shape despite mid-November.
Greens were rolling and fairways in excellent shape. Leaves had been blown off fairways and locating balls were no trouble unless you were off the fairways.
Had not played course in about 10 years and forgot how much more difficult back nine is over the front nine.
It's no Kampen course
Played 9 this morning as a single. It was habitual waiting with an occasional outbreak of golf. Greens were wet (it had rained) but too long and putted slow regardless. Fairways were B-minus material, with some bare spots and 2 different grass species growing. Rough was a lot of clover mixed with sparse grass & copious amounts of bare earth. (I know, don't hit it there.) Bunkers had great sand in them, but hadn't been maintained; black plastic was visible, no grooming. I liked the bones of the course a lot. Nice tree lined fairways, elevation changes are always fun in my opinion, and well placed greens and bunkers. Too bad no one's taking care of the property or policing pace of play. I may go back again, but it's going to need to be the first tee time to avoid the wait and probably nearer the Golf Team's invitational.
Enjoyable course, great scenery, beautiful trees in fall & you might even see a deer or two.
This course is a must for fall as the trees are colorful and beautiful. You can tell they make an effort to keep the leaves cleared off the fairways. Greens and fairways in great condition. Beautiful flower beds and are well maintained. Have played this course several times and this is the first time we didn't see some deer.
Home of the Hoosiers
Nice track, though it was a little soggy from recent rain. Some of the pin placements were ridiculous, if you weren't below the hole it was three putt city. Pace of play was erratic because I was a single and it seemed to be a slow day. 3 or 4 holes real fast, 3 or 4 holes really slow. That said, other golfers poor etiquette did not effect my view of the course. I especially appreciated the snack stand in the middle of the course. I would definitely like to play there again. Great mixture of holes, though all the par 3s are pretty long to beginners beware.
great course
Great course and in good shape.Great value,we payed 16 dollars through golf now.great price.i myself would not pay 36 dollars to play this course but great layout.
Shaggy greens
golf course plays extremely long because it is so soft Greens are ridiculous maybe a 5 or 6 on the stimpmeter. very spongy could not get the ball to the hole. If you like smooth fast greens don't play this course, it will drive you crazy
Good for the price
The greens were slow and the course had not been cut recently, but it was worth the price we paid.
Very challenging
Really enjoyed playing the course. It is a beautiful site. The only negative comment I have is the Greens are too slow.
HORRIBLY SLOW GREENS -- NOT ENOUGH SAND IN BUNKERS
I'm from Bloomington, and have played this course a few hundred times over the past 20 years, so I know it well.
The greens are ridiculously slow -- compared to Martinsville CC, Foxcliff, Eagle Pines, Hickory Stick, The Pointe, Timbergate, Heartland Crossing, and Otter Creek -- IU has BY FAR the slowest greens of the bunch.
It's a freaking joke how shaggy they are, and this course should be avoided until management gets serious about course management.
Yes, it's THAT annoying.
And, the bunkers need a lot of work as well. Pretty embarrassing lack of sand.
Easy Access
Excellent condition! Fast play! Friendly people! Loved it!
