Winter damage?
The winter must have done a lot of damage to the Bermuda fairways. Will wait till they get better before I come back. I have played this course in the past, and it was always in better condition.
Great value
Fairways still coming in but greens in great shape
Not your typical Rural golf.
A great 18 hole course with all the elements. However, the game is hampered right now because of spring weather damage to the fairways. Old Capitol is making adjustments and doing what they can to fix. Fairways may need to be reseeded at this point as aeration probably won't help. Greens are in great shape and they actually make you plan a good shot to setup for the a low score. I enjoy Old Capitol, but they have some work to do at no fault of there own.
Poor Shape
Greens are the only part of the course in good shape. Fairways and tee boxes are terrible. Harsh winter and an unusually wet period really took it's toll on a course that is in tip top shape this time of year in the past. Bent grass does not work this far north.
Fairways coming in
First time I've played this course and we got there early. Fairways are starting to come in still with some bad holes from cold early spring. Course is very very challenging, water is everywhere and the greens are in great shape with undulation everywhere. Will be back.
Not the course's fault but
The harsh winter took a toll on this course. I have played there on a number of occasions and is very unfortunate that they have lost their fairways. Even at the discounted rate that I received, it was not worth the value.
After three holes, one of our group members had an emergency and we had to return to Louisville. Because he had purchased the rounds thru golf now, there was a no refund policy. The course worked with us to offer a discount for the next round. Hopefully by end of summer we can try again.
Like the rest
The fairways are 60% dead like everywhere else with bermuda, but the greens, bunkers and rough are as good as it gets!
Fairways not in yet
Bermuda fairways got crushed by the winter. Still not grown in yet. We had to move balls to a nice patch of grass on fairway on every hole. Will come around. Greens really nice shape.
Has been completely let go
Made tee times for foresome 2 never played this course before, had bragged about how nice it was (in the past years). Got there and from first tee on nearly no grass at all in the fairways. Plus mostly mud. It was a blessing to play from the rough. Got a hot deal for about 20.00 with cart, daily price was 35.00. The course was not worth 5.00. Have played several times at other area courses this year and none are in this terrible condition.
Excellent Conditions
The course was in excellent shape. The greens were smooth and fast. The grounds crew does a very good job. One little comment is they need to use ropes in a few spots to allow the high traffic areas back to the cart path to heal up.
The elevation changes and bunker placement creates some illusions of small landing areas or greens, when in fact there is a lot of room.
Tough Going at Old Cap
I played here about a month ago and the course was in bad shape. It hasn't improved much in that time. Tee boxes and fairways pretty bad. The greens were good. It was a 4 hour round but seemed like it took a lot longer than that. Usually this course is pretty nice but they're having a tough go of it. I'd give it some time before trying it again.
Good but slow
Unknown to us at time of booking, there were 3 scrambles at the course.
We were able to get a good start on the first 9 holes, buy got caught at the turn and it was slow the rest of the afternoon.
Worst course conditions I have ever played
The fairway grass was non existent. No grass whatsoever... just wet mud. Several signs saying to remove ball from fairway and drop in the rough. Absolutely comical it was so bad. Tee boxes were un mowed, and full of dandelions and other weeds. It is apparent that old capital is no longer even attempting to maintain their course. I was the only person playing on a sunday, so i cant imagine how they stay in business. It was completely empty.
I used to play here often several years ago, and it was actually quite nice. Coming back to this, I was quite disappointed. Stay away from this course folks, I certainly wont be back
Needs Help
It will be years until course is back in great shape, disappointed with the condition, greens still great though
2014
Great Value
Nice layout and good conditions given the spring weather
Excellent greens....still dormant Bermuda fairways
Fairways appear to be in very poor shape due to the cool winter. Not sure if they will recover until mid summer.
Fairways are dead
I have played it twice before 2 years ago. It was fantastic then. Now the tee boxes and fairways are dead. Nothing but dirt. They said they were under water all winter. I guess frozen. They were reseeding while we were there but I assume it will be months or years before its back like it was. The greens are in great shape. Roll smooth and fast. It will be a few years before I go back.
Seen better
Must have had a lot if rain as all of the fairways were in poor condition. I've been there in years previously and enjoyed the course and conditions.
1st time out this year for me and was ok.
Maybe in a few weeks they will be in better shape.
3.5 of 5 stars
It's early in the year, but the fairways are rough. I expect the dead brown color this early in the year, however tons of weeds, multi. Closed off/under maintance areas in middle of fairways. When I played, the fairways had just been aerated. So there were long runs of dirt & terrible groves in 75% of fairways. Problem with runoff & water accumulation after heavy rains. Bunkers are still soupy. Within another month or so, the corse should be green & beautiful, but the corse should be discounted untill repairs are completed.great staff, & over all great experance. I would go again,& would recommend to a friend, only after the corse is up a running at 100%.
