Always a Great Round
It's hard to beat Royal Hylands in terms of value/bang for your buck. I mean that anywhere, not just in Indiana.
The course has a great mix of holes for a parkland-style layout. Some open, some tight, all requiring precision or close to it. Tee shots force different types of plays - cuts/draws, etc. Par 5s are fun risk/reward types. The greens are the real challenge - if you miss in the wrong spot it's 3-putt city. It can be a handful if you're off your game and it can be pride-inducing when you're playing well. Either way you're going to want more when you're done.
Staff is great as well, though I'm not so fond of the new pro - he can go back to Hawks Tail.. But they are good folks overall otherwise, and they have a great 19th hole/mid-point.
If you're anywhere around Indianapolis or Eastern Indiana on I-70 - stop here and thank me later. You won't regret it.
PERFECT COURSE
The course was in excellent shape!!! PERFECT DAY TO PLAY GOLF!!!
GREAT VALUE!
This is my "go-to" course. Took an old friend on his 1st trip here. Excellent condition & fun all day!
Great Place
Course Conditions are the best within miles and miles in this area. Fairways and greens are superb as well as the friendly staff. I love this place, and Especially the layout.. Come play it for yourself and visit the 19th hole after a round and relax on the front porch with your friends; you won’t be disappointed.
One of the better courses west of Indy
Second time here an enjoyed even more then the first time I played despite the very hot weather.i will be looking forward to coming back here to play many more rounds in the future. It is now high on my too play list.
Best course on golf now
I'm from Fishers and there are no courses around for the value that Royal Hylands gives to it's customers. It's definitely worth the scenic drive to this amazing course. The course plays fast too and it is fun for all skill levels of golfers. Highly recommend this course
Hidden gem
I play Royal Highlands a couple times per year. The staff is always friendly and the course is always in great shape. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the green on hole 10 being under construction. it appears to be very close to being ready to go again but before you book your tee time you might want to call to make sure. Not a big deal, but never fun to play a hole with the pin/hole in the middle of the fairway. Great course, especially for the price. you won't be disappointed.
Fun but challenging
Course was in very good shape and the greens were very fast.
Hole # 10 had a temporary green as they were getting it back into shape but is was no big deal.
Layout is very good with slanted greens ,water hazards, sand traps.out of bounds - it has it all !
We love to come out here and play

Best course for the money!
Royal Hylands was in fantastic shape as always today! Course was pretty empty and we played the entire round in less than 3 hours. I'm from out of town and every time I'm back I make it a point to play. Awesome as always!
I love this course
Great course great layout. Greens have been great and torturous. Not tricked up, just a great place to play. 10th hole is a little janky, but all courses have a hole or two that disappoints. Staff is always friendly and accommodating. None of the snobbery you get with other Indianapolis courses.
The course was in great condition. I love it when the roughs are cut.
Round of my life
Royal hylands is parkland style layout with a beast of a par 5 as an opening hole that plays down a shoot of trees into a tough sloping green. This is the hardest starting hole in the circle city area. It is indicative of the round to come. The course has the friendliest staff and best customer service of any course I have ever experienced which just adds to the over all experience. The course has had some water damage due to all of the rain as of late and it doesn't drain well. They are extending the green on the 10 hole which will make for a nice landing area on the three tier hole. I was able to finally birdie the dreaded 15th hole which as one of the craziest greens I've ever played in the state of Indiana. It is multi tiered and slopes hard front to back. Being above the hole is three putt city generally.
This course is just everything you'd want in a round of golf: Pristine greens that roll true and can be very tricky, lots of elevation changes tee to green, scenic views, and great bunkers. They have the whole package here, and it is the best deal going at under 50 dollars. GET OUT AND PLAY IT!
Great course at a reasonable rate
This course was very well maintained especially compared to a lot of the others right now. Challenging, but very fun. Would highly recommend this course.
Great course
This course was very well maintained and a major change of pace to the most other courses. Would strongly recommend this course.
Great Course
I have always loved this layout, even though i have never scored well. The course is in the best shape i have ever seen. The greens are the best in the area. Not only does the grounds keeping staff know what they are doing, the members are obviously conscientious and know what to do with a ball mark. i will play this course any chance that i get.
Beautiful place
Impressive course, nice 'cozy' pro shop & bar. More hills on the first 12 than almost any other course we've played. Considering it's mid-summer, course is in good shape.
Greens a bit slow, as other reviewers have said, but not a big deal. But the play also became slow, mostly due to 'leisurely' 4some(s) not inviting smaller/faster groups to play thru. Became a bit frustrating on the back 9, which took a long time to play as a result.
A couple holes, 10 and 11 for sure, are on the crazy side given extreme hills. Don't walk this place unless you're in decent shape.
We really enjoyed the overall experience.
