Classic Course
The course is in super conditiob. Doesn't look like it's changed much over the years. The trees, hills and slight doglegs keep you honest unless you can work the ball left and right. You can fly the trees on a few doglegs. The rough is pretty thick, but very playable. In fact the rough can actually save you from going too far off line and O.B. on a few holes. It would be much tougher without the rough. Only drawback was having my cooler searched for outside beer by the gestapo in the proshop. The two guys are jerks. The lady was very nice, but she left before I finished and the other 2 guys were there. The bar and grill is very nice and the bartenders are super friendly. They should teach the 2 guys in the pro shop some manners. Great course though and everyone I met and played with on the course were some of the friendliest people I ever met. Almost thought I was in North Carolina. I highly recommend coming here.
What a Bargain!
Course in great shape! Not real crowded and we enjoyed a fun round. Always wanted to play here but couldn’t get on when it was a country club. I’ll be back!
Great old course, your handicap may suffer
This is a great course, it will beat you, you have been warned. They make great use of the terrain, and the rough can get pretty thick.
The biggest problem with the course WAS they didn't have regular beer and dogs for the turn. The restaurant that is there is nice but not tuned to the golfers. That has been remedied as of our last round.
It is a grand old club house, a beautiful but tough course, and nice folks.
Nice Marion Tract
Nice course if you enjoy slope, which I do. Some beautiful elevated tees and blind tee shots. Course knowledge is very helpful here. Most fairways were in excellent condition with good grass and soil conditions. Greens well maintained. Will definitely play again.
Too Slow For Me
The course was very well kept and was challenging but there were two different college teams playing on the day we went there and it was horribly slow. We didn't even finish our round because it was so slow. A heads up that there was going to be college teams practicing would have been helpful as I would have played elsewhere.
Beautiful course
Tuff to find any course around Indiana with hills and the views this one has to offer.
Greens were super and so was our time.
Keep up the good work.
Hills are are beautiful
Wow the hills are amazing, if you like a hilly course you will love this one. We play on flat courses so ofter around here it feels like you are on vacation. Very challenging layout, the third or fourth time helps you know where to miss. Don't expect to shoot your best round of the year the first time playing here. But this course will compel you to return for another try.
Great course!
I live in the Indianapolis area and my friends live in Fort Wayne. This is the perfect midway meeting spot! Very friendly staff and golfers. Great course and awesome food waiting at the clubhouse!
Classic Hilly Course
It shows how it used to be a private club from the conditions, layout, and the clubhouse design. Very friendly staff.
The course is in fantastic shape from tee to green. The blue and white tees are hardly different in length, and share many tee boxes (as does the silver and red). It has something you don't get a lot of closer to Indy: rolling hills throughout the course. Many holes are lined with large mature trees as well. #9 has a design flaw that I can't stand personally: a large tree in the middle of the fairway right around where you'd land or roll to if you're an average hitter. Turns what would be a fun, tight par 5 into a goofy hole with potentially a punch second shot up the hill or out from behind the tree. The rest of the course has tight fairways, good rough, playable sand, and greens that mostly run from back to front with a good degree of tilt. The first 4 holes are short, and be careful if you hook off the tee on #4 as you can end up on #9's green like I did.
The course was mostly empty when I played on a weekday afternoon. Deals can be found from the usual sources online, but their full freight price is fair as well. It's roughly an hour from the Hamilton County area NE of Indy, an hour from Fort Wayne, and 45 minutes from Muncie. It's worth a drive for the conditions and uniqueness of the layout through the hills/trees. It would be far more expensive and busier if it were closer to either metro area.
Awesome Layout!
This course has a great layout and the club pro was very nice! Glad that this course became public, so that we could play it!
Good conditions
Very well kept and maintained. Really hilly and can have some awkward lies. Overall very nice course with a good mix of hole layouts.
Nice course friendly staff
Here visiting for the month of June and looking for a nice course. This place was great, I will definitely be back.
Great day of golf on a challenging course
First time playing this course. Very undulating terrain for northern Indiana, but that is what made the course challenging and fun at the same time. Some greens were small targets, but the course was in great shape from tee to green. It was an hour drive for us, but we will definitely go back.
Definitely coming back!
Enjoyed it. Great value for the $$ spent. Visually intimidating but there is more room out there than you think. Definitely "old school" golf!!
Course was in great shape. The greens rolled well but it seems that they are its best defense. Very challenging to read them correctly.
Stopped in the grill room after the round. Friendly staff and the sandwiches were good.
A HIDDEN GEM!!
This course was formerly a private golf course prior to this year and what a gift it is for public golfers such as myself. I have played virtually every 18 hole course in Indiana and for those measured at the maximum scorecard length of 6,400 yards, this is one of the best. The original design was a 9-hole course crafted by Bill Diddle. I forget who designed the additional 9 holes, but he was no slouch. It's in immaculate condition. It's fairly hilly, which I love. A good golfer can score well here. I was good at one time, but rarely break 90 these days. This course will be a real surprise of a challenge for those who regularly shoot in the 80s and 90s. It has a lot of character and you will not be disappointed taking a drive. I will be making another trip from Indy as soon as I am able.
Great old school course
This is a fantastic old school course. It beat me up a little but I'll be back. Challenging and fun. We played on a beautiful day, and the course was in great shape. The periscopes on a couple blind tee shots were a cool touch. Greens were quick but not overly fast. A hilly course in Indiana is a true treat. I suggest you try it for yourself.
Beautiful course
Beautiful terrain with excellent fairways
Greens are PGA even this time of year in early spring.
Will play again as soon as possible
