Best I've ever seen it
I grew up in the Muncie area, so I have played the Players Club since I've been playing golf 15+ years. This is the best shape I have ever seen the course in. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are all in immaculate shape. The sand historically has been the weakness of TPC, but this year it was in great shape. The staff have been clearly giving the bunkers the due diligence they deserve. The layout is always fun. The run of holes 11-15 is on of my favorites in all of golf. I highly recommend anyone in the greater Muncie, Anderson or Indianapolis area get over while the getting is good!
Wide fairways
We played this course as our second 18 after a round at purgatory in Noblesville. The routing is extremely interesting, as it meanders through a very nice and upscale housing addition. No two holes went in the same direction. We had a 4pm tee time, and aside from an outing that was finishing up, we were the only group on the course. This course is a bombers delight, with very wide fairways... there were some forced carries greenside, as a few of the holes were protected by front bunkers. The greens rolled true and with some speed. It’s a fun little track, and extremely playable. It’s a relatively easy course with plenty of room. Course conditions were good. At $36 for 18 on a Saturday, this course was a tremendous value! Clubhouse was a bit lacking, but we had tasty brats before the round.
Not Up to the Hype
Since I started working in the area 2 years ago, everyone said i had to play Players Club. Other reviews are good too. I finally got around to it today, and I have to ask... why does it get such praise?
The layout is very mundane. Lots of straight holes with a couple doglegs thrown in. It has some visual appeal with mounds and sand and water around. But the houses you wind through detract from it as well, especially when you see the entire hole right in front of you all the time.
What I also found disappointing was the condition of the sand and greens. Some of the greens were top dressed with light sand. Would have liked to have been told that, but ok. The problem was all of them were rock hard. Short irons and wedges, even when landing short of the green would just bounce and run to the back or through the green. Only thing harder than the greens was the sand. Hit a short iron into 15 and watched it bounce in the sand like it hit the cart path and go over the green. that wasn't the only rock hard trap as I visited a few and all were a grain or two deep - couldn't dig at all.
I get that it's a nicer and more modern-style layout than the older country courses around Muncie. But I also understand why it was empty in the afternoon on a perfect summer weekday; it's overpriced for what it is, especially in the area. You can do a lot worse around Muncie so by that standard it's worth a go, but you can also shell out half the price and know what you're getting at other courses and have a more enjoyable time.
Special Place
I'm not sure what it is about this place but I thoroughly enjoy it. It's always been a favorite of mine from the first time I played it as a teenager. I don't get to play it often but when I'm in the area I don't pass it up. Challenging but fair. Nice to stretch it out close to 7000 yards if you want.
Great course and Great Staff
Course is always in great shape and plays with some challenge without being too much. Plenty of opportunity to tee it forward or play the tips for a variety of skills. The pro working that day, Matt, was awesome with him being very cordial and inviting. A+ staff.
Challenging but enjoyable
Course was wet but otherwise in great shape! Challenging but still playable and satisfying to score well on.
The best public course in the Muncie area
The Players Club at Woodland Trails is challenging but fair. It is in very good condition and is by far the best public course in the Muncie area and probably in East Central Indiana. Take this course and put it in a metropolitan area and you could easily pay $60-$80 for an 18 hole round with a cart. This is a great value for the money! The only drawback about this course is that it is not a walking course. It goes through a neighborhood and for several holes there are long transitions from one green to the next tee.
This is a great course, at a great value.
It had been a few years since I had played at the Players Club and it was even better than I remembered. This is a top notch golf course. It was definitely worth the drive from Indianapolis to play here.
Fun and enjoyable
We were approx. 25 min's early for our tee time but were able to saddle up and head to #1 tee and start once we got there. The course is in great shape with undulating and challenging greens. We didn't have to wait nor did we hold up anyone. The fairways were in great shape also. We just had a fun afternoon at The Players Club. Thank you so much.
Good course, pleasant day
Great course to play, well maintained. Bunker sand a bit thin and hard. Pleasant, friendly staff
Definitely worth playing
Played an afternoon round at the Players Club on May 21. The course was in excellent condition. The staff members were very friendly, pace of play excellent and practice facility was very good as well.
The course is flat, but utilizes man made contours very well to make for some challenging holes. The greens were in excellent shape, but a little slow (maybe just the time of year?).
I would definitely play it again.
