Good Course at a Great Price!
My friends and I were looking for a new course to play in Iowa, and Palmer Hills fit the bill. At only $23 to walk, we felt like it was definitely worth the short drive to check it out.
The Good:
I really liked the layout of the course. There are many hills, which, for me makes for a really interesting layout. The greens rolled fast and true, which I loved. It was nice to know that you could get a putt started on line and it would get there. The greens also had plenty of slope, which made for a fun challenge. I thought the greens were some of the best I've putted on a municipal course anywhere.
The Average:
The rest of the course was in average condition for this time of year in Iowa. There were some burnt out patches, owed to the dry, hot weather we've been having. Overall the course played very nicely.
The Not So Good:
1) The pace of play was poor. With only 8 minute spacing on tee times, there were several backups. We played 18 holes in about 4 hours, 40 minutes.
2) The walk from 12 to 13 is poorly marked. They are doing some renovations and have built a new 13th hole. We probably added an extra 200-300 steps to our day trying to figure out where to go.
Overall I really liked Palmer Hills. I thought it was a fun track and would definitely play it again.
Good cheap place to play
Played the course after heavy rains so it was cart path only. Got the senior rate of $29 with cart and was very happy with that. Course was in good shape despite the heavy rains. Greens were true just lost a bit of roll. Would like to play again when it is dry.
Nice course in the city.
Palmer Hills is a nice place to play in the QC. Fairways are good sized and not too difficult to hit with some having nice elevation changes. Greens have some contour and are generally fairly quick. Has a good variety of hole types with decent amount of sand and water. Overall a fun and somewhat challenging place to play. Has a great clubhouse and grill.
