Per course sucked
The course sucked and there was way too many people teen off at once place is a joke almost got hit by five balls only did six holes out of 18 because we didn’t want to get a hit when we went to the clubhouse they wouldn’t give us our money which we were asking for the money we were just asking for a rain check wouldn’t even give us a rain check cheap definitely not going back to that course
Great layout, poor condition
Played 4/20/2018. Great RTJ layout, unfortunately the course is a mess. Half the bunkers have no sand, the other half only partial sand. Absolutely no landscaping unless you like weeds and dandelions. Condition reminds you of a $20 muni. 2 two somes were behind a very slow four some.and we NEVER saw a marshall. Green fee for this condition is WAY out of line. Find somewhere else to play.
Did you call the golf shop about pace of play? My experience is if you call the golf shop they can help speed up the pace of play.
Challenging but worth it
I’ve played deer creek about 5 times this year it’s a challenging layout lots of trees and trouble if you aren’t accurate with your shots and the greens can be really fast and hard to read sometimes. The course rewards focus and course management. I played Tuesday 12:10 with a $25 hot deal tee time it was a blast, pace was great, and weather was great.
Another GreatLifeKC Management Failure
I really do want to like Deer Creek as the layout is very challenging given how tight certain holes are from the tee boxes and how the greens have their own quirks towards reading them. This just seems like a course that could be a gem if it was kept up a little better, but as with other GreatLifeKC courses, the theme continues of mismanagement and neglect.
While the course itself is subject to flooding when any measurable rain occurs in the KC area, it seems given the track record that they would be ready for it. On this particular day, my 3-some witnessed ball washers that had been pulled from the ground simply laying on the side of the cart path. We witnessed EVERY SINGLE BUNKER having little to no sand, if not completely washed out...what sand was there had been baked in the sun for a week and still had beer cans, tree branches, plastic bottles, etc. sitting in them. How is that even acceptable from a management perspective?!? Clearly you can get out to mow (fairways and rough had both been recently cut), so how can you not attend to the bunkers unless you're just giving up on them?
Ultimately, the neglect of the course, along with others in the area also owned by GreatLifeKC, have made me want to spend my time/money elsewhere. I'll not be back.
Matt, I notice GLKC taking courses that were already neglected. Also I was told by management that the flooding is actually caused by the city of overland park. The city allowed projects to cause the creek to flow and that is what they are dealing with. So i'm no expert but sounds like it is more of the city fault then it is Deer Creek.
No way this course deserves that rating. You had to witness the bunker carnage that started on hole one and ran through to 18...not one of them was playable. The best thing about this course for the money spent to play it was the walk to my car afterwards. Complete neglect in several areas and it shows.
Tight shots
This is a course where you want to pick your spots and not just go up to the tee looking to blast driver each time. Trees everywhere, most need to be trimmed up especially the first par 3 on the front. Course is in decent shape. This used to be the drunk tournament home course, the course took a lot of abuse because of a lack of marshals. The price is a bit high for the condition and pace of play
Good Course
It is a good course and is as advertised. Only thing is that they only have yard markers at (i'm assuming 150 yards) on each hole. Nothing more, nothing less. I checked sprinkler heads at every hole and could not find a single distance to the pin. I'm not one to have a gps watch or a range finder so to me, this was extremely frustrating.
Also, as I got further into my round I became stuck behind a foursome of older gentleman. The type of people who were throwing putters into the sand (not kidding) and maybe seemed entitled to something because they were members. That is me speculating but it was very annoying how they took their time, had poor golf etiquette, and would not let me play through them as a single.
For the sole reason of no yardages, I will not go back unless I have a friend with something that will give me exact yardages. Don't let this review fool you though, it is a nice course.
Great course. Extremely Difficult
Beautiful course and really fun to play. Very challenging for the average golfer. tight tee boxes and equal dog legs lefts as there are rights....bring extra balls, this place eats em up.
Played the greens, tips as the course has very favorable tee boxes with downhill shots. Makes for great roll out and the forward tees would make play for a fair to good golfer non competitive
Course is narrow, target type golf for a course in the city wrapped by streets and houses. The creek comes into play about 2/3 of the time
Unknown if the rough is supposed to be as long as it was when I played it but it was at an 'unfair' and non playable length. Lost balls and no shot was the norm if you landed off the narrow fairways
Poor course condition
Green side and first cut off the fairway rough was shin high in places. Bunkers were eroded and had rocks in them. Great layout but the condition has diminished to the point of a lot of lower tier courses. A trend i'm noticing at all greatlife owned courses.
great layout bad condition
The layout is great, the price is good (30.00), the condition is bad. Three weeks after aeration there is little to no recovery. The bunkers are either closed Rock Hard or have grass growing out of them. Dandelions are very abundant and many tee boxes are closed. Too bad what is a great location and was a great course.
Great layout
Deer Creek is a beautiful design with challenging shot requirements on every hole. Wait for summer days when the condition should be better.
Terrible Shape
Deer Creek has long been one of my favorite courses in the KC area. I love the layout, the location, typically you can find some good deals if you play during the week, and usually the course is in great shape (unless it rains heavily the day before- the course has always drained poorly).
I played with a group of guys yesterday, and we were all very disappointed with the shape of the bunkers (dandelions and other weeds in the middle of bunkers throughout the course, and the sand was terrible), the fairways were fine, but the greens had craters from the last aeration that was performed; and huge craters- not the typical size holes. The tee boxes were terrible- there were 3 tee boxes that were closed and we had to play from the closest up boxes; which dramatically changed the course (a 245 yard par 4 on 17).
Unless something changes dramatically, this is the last time that my group will play Deer Creek or any Great Life owned property.
How did you almost get hit here? Was it the group behind you hitting into you? Did you call the Golf Shop? From my experience whenever you contact the golf shop with issues they are good at responding especially.
