Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Kentucky
We played this course starting at 4 pm and was never told that we had to be back in the club house at 7pm. The person running the club house came out told us that we had to return the cart with no rain check after 10 holes. The guy was rude telling us the policy after the fact is no rain check after 3. Will never play this course again.
Rare I rate this course this way but.....
Really good golf course normally. I noticed more crab grass then normal but that wasn't the big problem. The greens were the worst I have ever seen. Black mold growing under them. Too much water although Seth the Asst Pro disagrees. I have seen this a lot at courses. We played Chariot Run earlier in the day in Indiana. Very firm and the greens were perfect. Seth buddy you are so wrong about this. 6 inches of rain in 36 hours is bad but would not by itself cause the mess that is out there at the moment. Weather is about to turn cooler and drier. Lay off the water. Love the layout with 5 par 5's and not a very difficult course. Would recommend playing it for sure but would pass until next year due to the greens.
Really fun course, in great shape
Really fun course, with some interesting holes but not overly challenging. We were the only ones on the course for the front 9 just about, and back 9 pace was great. Greens were maybe a bit slow but not bad, I was certainly expecting them to be fast.
Just about every course is in great condition this year, with the regular rain we've had. This one was no different. I really enjoyed this course, will be back.
Only bummer is they don't have a driving range, which is pretty lame,
Course was in awesome shape considering the hot, muggy weather recently. Greens (which are usually fast) were just medium probably because of the weather. Staff was friendly, pro shop is great.
The right rate makes it a great experience
One of my favorites in Lexington because of the condition of the course and the strategy required when you choose the right tee box to play from. Can be pricey without a deal and not worth more than $45.00 to play.
Griffen Gate golf course. Wonderful!
Best in Lexington! Course in pristine condition. Smooth fast greens, tight manicured fairways, perfect rough and excellent sand.
The course has beautiful views . Lots of tees for every level of player. Challenging enough. Accurate driving is necessary on most holes.
Speed of play is great and the staff is very friendly. Enjoyable day all around!!
Played with my Dad (which was his first time at the course) and we both enjoyed it. The front 9 moved much quicker than the back, as we literally had to wait on every hole to tee off, and all the grass needed cut, but the course over all was in really good shape. Greens were in great shape, tee boxes weren't beat up, and the fairways were also in good shape. I've played this course numerous times in scrambles, and this was maybe my 3rd time playing it for fun, but I enjoyed the course more yesterday than I ever have. It's way too pricey for normal play, especially on the weekends, but if u can find a Hot Deal to play there from GolfNow, it's more than worth it. We played for around $18, counting taxes. But I don't feel like it's worth over $60 on the weekends.
Great Hot Deal Course
I dont see this being a $75 course. However, anytime you can play here for less then $30 id jump all over it. Excellent course, in great shape. Greens were amazing. Tight course that winds through some neighborhoods. I loved this course, it was def well taken care of. If course conditions and smooth greens are your thing then this is your course. .
Very friendly staff. Course in good condition and greens rolling smoothly. Not long but some holes challenging Would recommend to anyone.
I love GG played their alot when I was younger still love it today!
Best Shape it has ever been in
I have played this course for many years and never have I seen it so pristine. The bunkers greens fairways and rough all were well manicured. Recently played Tidewater and Fazio Barefoot course and neither were in better condition than Griffin Gate.
Super friendly staff and course was in great condition. I would definitely recommend. The houses on the back were a little
too close and a challenge for my playing partners. But overall it was a nice day and wonderful experience.
You will not be disappointed!!! As president Trump would say....BELEEEEEVE ME!
Conditions were great! Unbelievable even with it being February. Watch out for all the geese haha. Awesome layout and friendly staff.
First time playing this course and was kind of hesitant after reading another review. I drove by the course the day prior to take a look. This course is in outstanding condition, especially for this time of year. Clubhouse is having some work done on it, but everything else looked great. If i had anything bad to say, it would be, for such a nice golf course, they need a driving range. Also, the score cards need to be updated with a pic of the course layout of each hole in the back. This is a great course that is extremely challenging for any golfers skill set. Im retired military, and it was great to visit my home town and play at a nice course...
Wait For May
I have played here many times and this is the first time I was very disappointed.. I can not recommend this course right now. The greens are unputtable. Between splotches of live grass and dormant grasses, there is no way to get any type of decent roll. The rest of the course was in decent shape for February but.... if you can't at least semi-reliably putt you may as well take a walk in the woods.
Also... the clubhouse is under renovation. The only food or drink is soda and snacks. The only bathroom is halfway down the first fairway. On this date all other bathrooms on course were closed. Not a big deal... Just a heads up.. As i said in the header... I would wait for May.. I paid a bargain rate that at this point in time was extremely overpriced!! There are better opportunities to play in the Lexington area right now.
