Overpriced Thrills!
Now that Eagle Bend is the only show in town (Alvamar is currently closed due to renovations) the price to play here exceeds the value of the course. It is invested with weeds and maintenance has not been kept up around the greens. The clubhouse staff is rude, extremely unwelcoming, and they proudly display their “make America great again” hats which brings up the question of whether or not they really want diversity at Eagle Bend. If you live in Lawrence I recommend you just make the drive to Falcon Ridge or Falcon Lake, the golfing experience is much better and the staff is much more accommodating!
Slowest Round
Tee off at 1:20 finished at 6:15. The clubhouse let a very slow group in front of us on the back nine that backed up where two groups were waiting on the tee. Called the clubhouse and they said they would send a marshal to speed up play but he never showed. Called back and they said he went home. The course was in good shape and I played well but it wasn't worth the tedious wait.
Best Value in America
Eagle Bend is a must play. The people that live around Lawrence are extremely lucky to have a golf course like Eagle Bend. The turf conditions were some of the best I've seen in a while. The staff were the most friendliest and personable I've came across in 20+ years of playing. I belong to a exclusive country club in Missouri. If Eagle Bend was in my town, I would drop my membership as fast as you could say fast.....
Keep it up!
Preferred Course in the Area
I really enjoy Eagle Bend, although I was always confused by their prices (probably my fault for never paying attention).
The course is fun to play, and usually in very good shape. There are two public courses in Lawrence, and I really prefer this course over the other (cough cough). I feel like the other course gets a bit more attention and is regarded as a nicer course but I'm not too sure why. I've never had any issues with the conditions of the course and they are actually capable of making a level tee box! I find the course to be on the easier side, not too difficult but still fun to play. If you're in Lawrence and don't feel like driving out to Kansas City, this is a great course to make your home course.
I really like the staff here, they are fair and are not looking to make a quick buck off of you.
Major improvement in course condition in the past two years.
What you see is what you get. Trouble off the tees with out of bounds and natural grassland. Fairways are much improved and the greens are always in great shape and a challenge to putt. Always an enjoyable 18 holes.
Course in great shape. Great value as always.
Course was in great shape. Greens, rough, fairways all in super condition for late in the season. Excellent value for the money at $26 w/cart on weekend. Little frustrated with marshall not making slower threesome let our faster twosome play through but that is play on public courses it seems--etiquette lacking. Need to be able to hit it straight as if off fairway even a bit on many holes deeper stuff lurks and will probably find 7-8 balls looking but not your own.
Good time golf!
I enjoyed this course...surprisely well maintained. Mostly wide open and easy to manage. Go after it!
Love this Course
I play golf here at least twice a week (weather permitting) and have always had a good experience. The course is very well maintained especially for the price. Their weekend prices are excellent and they have been running a discount for the last month or so which is weekday rates after 1 PM on the weekends. It's really hard to go wrong with that especially given the quality of the course. Staff has always been very friendly.
Weekend play is slow. No golf etiquette practiced at this course by members or expected by the staff.
Course is very scenic. They allow five players in a group which would not be a deal breaker but they will not let a twosome play through...plan on a long day. There is no marshal on the course to manage ridiculously slow play as they do not want to offend the regulars. I have not played this course for several years for the same reason and was hoping it had changed (not). Based on the price and this issue I will not play this course again nor recommend it to others...another example of poor management.
Best value in Topeka!
Eagle Bend is a phenomenal links style golf course. The conditions and style of play far exceed anything else in the Topeka area. It does get a bit crowded on the weekends though. It must be a testament to the course's attraction.
Maintained ok, Unfriendly/ Unprofessional staff, only worth playing on a hot deal.
I have played at eagle bend a handful of times now. The course is well maintained, but I am overly disappointed with the staff. All of the men (with the exception of an elder gentlemen I have seen twice) in the clubhouse come off as rude and unwelcoming. The greenskeepers are constantly driving in your way, and walking on the par 3 greens as you are teeing off. When I was on the driving range, the grounds crew decided they were going to mow the entire tee box without warning. No apology to the 5 of us on the tee box, and I was even asked to help move a bench out of the way. The only thing this course is good for is when you catch one of their hot deals. Be prepared for the scowl you will receive when checking in with a hot deal though.
Great value for the money!
Played mid afternoon on a Saturday for $26.00 per player, including cart. Course was in good condition, greens were good and the tee boxes were well maintained.
For the amount paid, the course was a great value and we would go back again!
I love going there to play golf.
A great course because it is well taken care of and the staff is always helpful and friendly. I take lessons from the pro and he puts it in language you can understand.
Good local course!
Had to use the restrooms on the course as the clubhouse restrooms were out of service! ;-( With the heat, may need to service the water coolers on the course more frequently, as drinking lukewarm water was not a good experience. Overall, would play the course again without hesitation!
Fun, straight forward
A great course for the money. Friendly staff, fast pace of play the day we went. Greens were quick and true. Pretty layout and good conditions mean we would love to come back. golfnow pricing made it even better.
Slow play on this Day
Over all the course was in fine shape, although on every hole someone on the groups ahead of us left freshly eaten sunflower seed shells on the green.
Slow Play - 18 holes should not take six hours to complete. The club house has been redesigned and is much improved. I would recommend the hot dogs at the turn its a good valve.
Respectfully,
Beautiful fairways, great tee boxes, overall awesome course
Best shape of any course in the surrounding area. Well worth the money, moderate to challenging difficulty. Love it.
Great City Owned Course
Good conditioned course, very easy though, trouble is hard to reach on the course and very wide open. Sloppy wet conditions and still shot a 74.
Best course In Kansas City area for the price!!!
We loved this course. Well kept and challenging. The setting is quite and peaceful. You should check it out! It is not that far of a drive straight down the Turnpike(75 Mph).
I always enjoy playing this course
I realize it is the middle of February however several of the greens were not good..You could hardly walk on them for all the goose droppings..It only takes a few minutes to clean them...
