Fun, relatively easy course
Though there had been a lot of rain, allowed to ride in rough which is better than cart path only. Worst part of course was Tee boxes. Some Tee markers weren't on Tee boxes but beside them in grass to high and ground not level in many cases
Course condition
The course used to be maintained much better than the current conditions I experienced yesterday.
Great
Great place to play for a good price. Enjoy playing here.
Challenging but fun
Course was great, fair ways need to be mowed down more. Tee boxes could use some work. Other than that, I enjoyed the course and would play again.
This course is fun and has a great layout!
This has become one of our groups favorite courses to play. It is challenging and has great scenery, and the design of course gives a great variety of looks!
Not a fan of the grass
First off the people were great, however, this is old school grass and the fairways, and teeboxes were very inconsistent. The rough was out of control. I missed fairways by a couple of feet and it took everyone in my group almost 5 minutes to find my ball. It was a joke, I tried a white ball, a yellow ball, it didnt matter if you didnt drive on top of the ball it was almost impossible to find. Hole #12 is just a dumb hole, a tiny blind uphill shot that you have to be almost perfect from. The greens were nice for the most part, but I wasnt a fan and doubt I will ever play it again. IF I lived closer to the area I may go just because of the price but that would be the only reason.
Beautiful Bent Grass Greens
First, the minor criticisms: the clubhouse and restrooms are dated but functional. More a function of the financial hit that golf courses are taking everywhere. The fairways are still recovering from a very harsh winter 2 years ago. They are filling in and the rough is getting thicker (a true penalty for hitting out of the fairway in many areas).
The track is excellent and scenic. The tee box for the next hole is usually quite a distance from the previous green so golfers are not on top of each other. Everyone we encountered who worked at the course was friendly and helpful.
I rated the course as moderately challenging because the fairways are fairly wide so wayward shots don't always penalize you. I need that after not playing for a few years and only getting in 10-12 rounds a year. We played the blue tees (~6500 yards) which are one tee in from the tips (gold).
By far, the greatest asset this course has is the spectacular bent grass greens. Almost every course in this area has given up on bent grass (too hot and humid; or goose grass contamination) and has gone to champion dwarf Bermuda. The greens are beautiful and putt extremely true. Fun course to play. We'll be back!
Great time!!
Very friendly staff !! Nice course to pkay!!
Overall a good course to play
I normally play 3-4 times a week, and occasionally come play this course. It's actually a pretty good course, and in good shape most of the time. I play the Sr. tees, and this time they were not cut down....so even a LONG tee got lost. I just moved outside the tee box to play.
Good test
Haven't played the course in a while but was still a good test of golf. It was very damp on the front side after rain that night and the course still held up well. It is an older course that will green up when warmer. The greens were slower than I remember but we're true. Will be going back again.
no putting
The greens are in bad condition, maybe by June they will be ready.
uneventful
I'm not sure what I expected from this course. I haven't played there in several years. this course is not in good shape. Greens are inconsistent. fairways have little to no grass and the rough is basically un-mowed weeds. I won't be going back.
Good for a Muni
Good Muni course tucked away off the main roads. Quiet and fun! The hills and uneven terrain make some shots challenging. All in all a fun course that I will play at again.
Fairways were a little clumpy
Over all a great course.. Nice tee locations
Very nice greens..
Great public course for the money
Western Hills is a great public course that is well maintained and staffed by freindly and knowledgeable people. The course has challenging holes with small greens which were in great shape and would hold the ball even with a mid iron approach shot. One of my favorite courses in the area.
Lots if water and pack a lunch.
Beautiful course nestled next to a crazy hospital. Lots of water hazards so a long drive will help. Clubhouse is a little old and food offerings were microwave sandwiches. Avoid the BBQ place across the street. Overall nice course and had a great time. Will play again and pack a lunch.
Good course for the price
This course was good for the money spent. Greens fees were very reasonable for 18 holes riding. The greens were well kept though balls were easily lost if you don't stay on the fairway. There were some challenging water hazards, one on a par three that does create a bottle neck and slows pace of play down because it's a long walk around the hazard, it was a fun hole to play though. Overall it's a good course for the price.
Nice Place
Course is always in good shape. Greens are well maintained & fairways have very few bad spots. Some challenging tee placements, especially the tight, uphill par 4 on the back 9. My only complaint is the failure of the staff to communicate. There was a couples night scheduled for the back 9 on a Friday afternoon that I played there. My buddy & I would have started on the back had we known the scramble would be have been starting around the time we finished the front 9. You'll also run into groups that like to play in fivesomes and won't offer to let you play through. There seems to be more than the average of these types at Western Hills.
Decent course for the price
I've played this course about 5 times now. First time through Golf Now. Fairways are in decent shape but there are a few rough spots. Greens are better than average.
