Needs work
It is a classic designer layout, so potential is good - however it appears owners are putting their money, so far in the villas, not golf course. Fairways are ragged, most somewhat weed infested - tees are even worse. Due to rain, weather (I hope) traps were pretty much played as ground under repair. Greens were OK if slow. It is a resort course, so other players tend to do whatever they want on course - at one point I had a group of seven people playing ahead.
Use to be a great course
The staff was nice and the cost was cheap for a round of golf, but I saw why. First they need to take off that GPS is offered. That would be a nice feature on some holes as you can't tell if people are in front of you or not. Fairways were in pretty good shape, but the rough needs some work as there was a lot of clovers making it hard to find balls. The tee boxes were a bit rough as well on several holes. As for the greens they needed work, looked like no one knew how to replace a divot so made putting difficult. There was a sign in the clubhouse that said the bunkers were in the progress of being redone, but we saw no hint of work being done on any of them. They were in terrible shape mostly mud in a lot of them. This use to be a great course back in the day, as I use to play it, but seems to have gone down hill and don't see any improvements coming. Lastly the clubhouse was a little concerning. We got hotdogs from the concession and noticed several major spots on the ceiling form leaks that needed attention immediately it looked like. You'd think their $4 hot dog cost could go to repair that as it is around the food area.
Much improved
If you haven't played this course in a couple of years because of its mismanagement , you should give it another chance . The owners have made the decision to start spending more money on the course and it shows . Fairway ways , greens, and Tee's were all in excellent shape . IMO this course is one of if not the best value in the state .
Course was great
I've played this golf course before the last time the fairways were not in very good shape but it is amazing how much it has changed the fairways were absolutely beautiful the greens were perfect not to fast and not to slow with a true roll every time I definitely would recommend this course to anyone
A very nice Pete Dye course
Peninsula is very nice and they have really done some work since winter, new tee boxes, bunkers fixed. If i could have 1 thing better it would be staff friendliness.
This course needs a lot of TLC
Played this course many years ago and the conditions have drastically worsened
Great weather, very good round of golf
I've always liked this Pat Dye designed course, always feel challenged. The plentiful rain made for good fairways and greens. Most sand traps were virtually unplayable, but they are trying to put new sand in, or see it appears. I'll be back!
Love This Place!
I probably should have written a review for Peninsula a long time ago, as I've been going here for a stay and play golf trip since around 2003. This course had been having problems a few years ago, but you can see that they are really putting an effort in to get this back in the type of condition it was when it opened. There are a number of things I love about this resort; the course itself, the fact that you stay right on the course in several villas that are available, the hospitality of the staff and the cost is incredible! Not to mention that there are charcoal grills behind each villa where you can grill your meals. We have stayed from Monday afternoon until Friday morning for several years and what started as a group of 8 has turned into a group of 14 this year. The only thing that prevents me from giving this a rating of 5 is the condition of the bunkers. They are hard at work to fix them, but as of this trip, still needed attention. Not a big deal from us as we just consider them all ground under repair and take them out. Doesn't really take away from my love of this place. If you're looking for a place you can arrive at and not have to leave until it's time to head back home, check out this resort off the beaten path in Lancaster, Kentucky. I don't think you'll regret it.
Beautiful Setting, Nice Course, Slow Play
Positives - 1) The course is well-managed and in a beautiful setting. When the bunkers are filled with the fresh white sand we saw on skids at various holes it should be even more impressive. 2) Cart paths were abundant, appropriately placed and well-maintained. 3) Fairways were wide and the greens rolled true. 4) Rough was minimal although tall and thick for the time of season. 5) Fairways do feature large landing areas while greens are moderately sized. 6) Only two water hazards come into play.
Negatives - 1) The course is extremely hilly, and unless your tee shots are straight your second shot could be well above or below your feet. I lost 3 balls the first 4 holes from bad shots. That's on me. 2) A Sunday 3:25 tee-off should normally mean a good pace of play, but we had to wait time and again behind a one-bag young twosome, one of which had never played before. They thankfully left after the front 9. But then we got behind a fivesome (why is that allowed) and 2 twosomes. At times we were waiting 3 twosomes deep on the tee. 3) Although the greens were in great shape the undulations made 3 putts the norm.
It's obvious management is upgrading the golfers experience here. I'd like to go back, knowing now more of the layout and pace of play.
Rough way to long and thick
2nd time on this course, both times I felt the rough is extremely hard to hit out of. If you're 1 foot in the first cut you have to be standing on top of your ball to find it, rough is about 6" tall and very thick. extremely difficult to hit out of. The course is in great shape from tees to greens. But I felt the rough was unfair to hit out of. I lost balls in it, that should have been found, only 2 to 3 feet off fairway. Course is hard to find even with google's help, but I did call twice and they were very helpful with directions. Not a bad layout, reasonable green fees. Probably will return due to cheap play.
Very challenging!
Love the play on this course and the maintenance upkeep is very neat and groomed well.
Great Course
Great course. Bunkers need a little work but there are in the process of doing bunker work. Great challenging course.
Course still needs work.
It sounds like it's been bought and run by someone different than the last time I played there years ago. Greens and fairways are good. Fairway bunkers are being worked on now. Sparse pro shop but they said its changing. No food just drinks and a few snacks. Really isn't worth $40. Right now I'd say it's a $25-30 course.
Golf in December
Hard to complain about golf in the middle of December when it's 70
Degrees in central KY. Course played long with it being wet all day, but otherwise, good day of golf.
wonderful course
course is in great shape. greens, tee boxes great shape.really enjoyed the day here. will come back. hope to before gets to cold. for sure this spring.
Pennisula
Great course some challenging doglegs but very fun to play.
Beautiful course on a perfect fall day.
Enjoyed the course with many challenging holes. It was a perfect fall day with few players and speedy play.
Disappointing service
Booked tee time as a single to be paired with 3 players already booked. I do this through Golf Now so I have someone to play with.
The treesome arrived and went in clubhouse soon the starter came out and said I would have to play alone and to get between groups on back side.
I saw the threesome I was paired with start on the first tee.
I played nine and quit. I then asked the starter why he sent alone to the backside.
He said the threesome didn't want to play with me.
I told him I believe Golf Now policy was to keep foursome together. He said he made policy not Golf Now and if I didn't like it then don't book on golf now.
Keeps getting more run down every year
Been going here for several years. Love the layout, the setup, and the folks. But the condos keep getting dirtier, more applianaces (washers) keep breaking down, lights burnt out, grills not in working condition, picnic tables rare to find, mice in condos. Course has never had sand in bunkers, tee beds bad shape, fairways more weeds than grass. Even the breakfast was way below par this year. Hate to see this great place keep going in downward spiral. Now Chase is even gone. Some of the group made it known that this year was their last. We may come back next year but don't know how many will return. Sad.
Course could use some work on bunkers
Other than the bunkers and tee boxes, course was in good shape
I don't see how you could say it is a bad value . Heck with Golf Now deals you can play 18 holes with cart for 10 to 13 dollars .
