Very nice course
Greens and fairways in great shape. Bunkers not so much. Layed out of them.
Diamond in the rough
Beautiful golf course. Fairway and boxes were okay but the greens were perfect. The lay out was fair, the greens were challenging.
Worth the Trip
It's a bit out of the way, but a fun course to play (particularly for a bogey golfer like me). It has a decent amount of slopes to work with, mostly open fairways and semi to unprotected greens. A few tricky doglegs. The course sits above the surrounding hillside with constantly a shifting breeze. Given that it hadn't rained much recently the fairways were still fairly green, but they did give a lot of roll out on the low shots. The greens were in very good condition and they played true, which is a good thing, as quite a few of them are sloped.
Best golf value in KY
Really enjoy myself every time I play at Peninsula. The lay out of the course and the scenic views are tops in the state of KY. The course if very challenging from the tips, but very fair b/c the fairways are wide open. As the tag line for Golf Now says, GO PLAY!!!
Rowdy stay and play guests
I went to play as a single which I normally do only to find that there were tons of stay and play guests getting ready to tee off in front of me. 3 eightsomes to be exact. Was pretty surprised the course allowed this but the nice gentlemen trunning the pro-shop suggested I tee off on the back 9 to avoid them which worked out great and was much appreciated....I didn't catch up to them till my last 4 holes or so. Very rowdy bunch. Music blaring from the carts, leaving sunflower seeds and cigarette butts on the greens, screaming obscenities etc....course is good shape. Best green roll around in my opinion.
No Sand
Poor experience as there was no sand in the bunkers only large rocks. Course layout was questionable although advertised as a Pete Dye course, perhaps a junior associate designed. Not scenic at all as a large power plant and its smoke stacks were the predominant scenery. Hate to give it a poor review as the course definitely needs more revenue. We paid to play 18 and quit after 9 and won't be back.
Peninsula Golf
Greens were good. Very true roll with moderate speed. I would have liked a bit faster but over all very good. Fairways were good. Bunkers should be played as ground under repair or preferred lie in sand. Much of the sand has washed out with so much rain this year. Grounds crew should use this opportunity to remove the rocks and small boulders from traps. Course was extremely soft and it's deficiencies seem to be due to wet summer. I will play here again.
golf with a good friend
Shot 81 in some very wet conditions. Greens were rolling great though.no roll in the fairways because being wet from all the rain .but always enjoy playing peninsula .
What could have been...
Penninsula is a great challenging course and we are fortunate enough for it to be in Central KY. Too bad it's not what it once was! The bunkers are plentiful, but unplayable with dirt and rocks. The yardages are tough to figure which makes for some difficult approach shots. Where did the cart GPS systems go? The tee boxes, fairways and greens are in good shape. Front 9 always seems to be more challenging than the back.
I don't claim a home course, but prefer to float around and hit up a handful of courses in Central KY each summer. Penninsula is definitely worth one trip to Lancaster each summer.
pleasantly surprised
Course was in much better condition than in the past. Other than the bunkers it was great. I would play again tomorrow.

Courses in good shape just needs sand in the bunkers but Course overalls in great shape
Course in good shape
Had a very enjoyable round. The tee boxes and fairways were in good shape and the greens were in excellent shape. They were tricky at times with undulations and ridges making it challenging to make a proper read. The sand traps were not good. They were hard as a rock and full of rocks. The only other problem was finding the course. I had been there before; otherwise, I am not sure we would have been on time.
Slow play
There were several large groups playing the course near my tee time. It made for very slow play and there were no "rangers" on the course to keep play moving.
First round here in a while, and disappointing
When this course first opened I played here occasionally. It isn't close to my home, and was often hard to get a tee time. And it was challenging.
Two of these circumstances are still true. But getting my tee time was easy, and now I know why. The tee boxes were abysmal, unlevel and hard ground underneath. Amazingly, many of the fairways were also rock-hard. But the bunkers were the real surprise. Most had decayed to hard pan with no sand at all, while others that I remembered from the past had been allowed to go back to grass.
Pete Dye would be quite unhappy with what's happened to his creation. If word had gotten around about the current quality of this course, it had not reached me.
On the plus side, the staff was quite friendly.
We were caught up in a large contingent of stay-and-play guests who were all slow players, so we endured all of this for nearly five hours.
I don't imagine I will make the trip to the Peninsula again for some time.
May 2015
Course is in fantastic shape, fairways are filled and nice. Greens are responsive and true with a bit of speed. Rough is thick and hard to get though as it should be.
Great day!
This course is quite the challenge, and Mr. Dye set it up that way. Long rough will punish you for errant shots so step up your game if you plan to score well here. Friendly staff and knew who our group was when we walked in the proshop. Highly recommended!
early in the yr
It was early in the yr and the course and staff was still under pressure to get everything together. I'm sure it is going to be nice once they get all the bugs worked out.
This course is a real challenge, but fair.
Really enjoy playing this course ! Gives you a little of everything. Terry and the staff are super nice and really try to make your visit enjoyable.
Each hole has its own challenges,
Not a gimme course, each hole has its own challenges. Greens this time of year are firm and fast. I have not stayed at the resort, I live locally and drive to the course, play and go home.
Could be great
The course is a great layout. The staff is super accomodating and friendly. Guess I get worried because every year, things just run down a little more. No sand at all in bunkers. Have to pull out. If there was sand, super tough course. This year the condos had broken picnic tables and broken gas grills. Had to shop around to find something decent at the condos not being used. If all were full, plenty of people would have to do without. Carts have seen better days and virtually none of the GPS units in the carts worked that I saw. Still, the course and people make it a great place to spend a few days.
