Great Course, Poor Weather/Conditions
This was a very good, and challenging course. Unforunately for us, it had rained heavily the past week. The course was operating on Cart Path Only rules when we played. This slowed the pace down quite a bit. Being a beginner, it resulted in greatly slowing the pace of locating my ball. I felt pressured by the group behind us to rush my shots, but hey, that's part of golf. All in all the course was in great shape and had very fun greens to putt on. Would love to play this course again without cart path rules and on a less busy day, but anxious to get out and play it again when personal skill level has improved.
Needs to dry up
They have done an excellent job in getting this course playable with all of the rain. Mowing down the tall grass has helped in not losing 20 balls in a round without taking the challenge away. You still lose a stroke but not your $4 golf ball. Greens were tricky due to length, over reading a lot of puts, but I can't complain it's only rained every day for 3 weeks. If you are in the area you need to play this course. Great lay out and just a great course.
As Advertised
Great course in well kept condition, tough as usual. Only bad thing i can say is the pace of play was horrible after the front 9.
Really dissapointed
This has always been one of favorite courses. Great conditions and facilities. However this time we waited for cart for over an hour past our tee time. The staff did very little to help and acted like they could care less if they made us mad. When I checked in with them they asked if I was the the golf now reservation like I had done something wrong by booking that way. I remained friendly the whole way through because they were getting drilled by other customers. To make matters worse they let guys with tee times after us tee off and walk the course in front of us and another 4 groups. Once we headed out we caught them by the 3rd hole and played slow until the turn. Love the layout love the course but it's gonna be like that going forward I won't be playing there anymore.
Review
Course fairway was excellent but green recently aerated, so it was almost impossible potting... Unfortunately the golf Club did not advertised or informed before hand...
Great Experience at the UK Big Blue course
Excellent golf course and a great value for the money. All of the facilities and the course are A-1. I would recommend following the website guidelines are which of the two courses to play. I am a 14 handicap and the Big Blue is just a little too long and demanding for me. The next time I will play the Widlcat course. Because the course is rolling the distances tend to play a little longer so proper tee selection is critical.
Lexington's Solid Golf Course
This is an excellent golf course for folks in the Lexington area. The greens were the fastest (truest) greens in the area - such great shape!
Lots of fun holes - water holes - risk/reward holes, simple holes, a good variety - not just Driver, wedge set up. 5 tee boxes make it fun for the whole group. Tee 4 come in at 6500ish.
THESE COURSES ARE GREAT TO PLAY!
GREAT COURSES BOTH THE BIG BLUE AND THE WILDCAT! IT'S WORTH THE DRIVE TO IT. WELL MAINTAIN FAIRWAYS AND GREENS! JUST LIKE UK FIRST CLASS!
This is a fun course and is really a second shot course.
There is generally plenty of room off the tee. There are a few holes where you have to know where water hazards come into play off the tee. There are a few island greens.
It is a second shot course because it helps to know where to miss on a few of the hole locations on a few of the holes. Missing in the wrong spot can cost you a 3 putt, or a tough up-and-down.
The course was in great shape, I just noticed that some of the greens were a little beat up after weekend play and some of the greens had plastic on the the edges from the drainage.
Worth the drive!
I was looking for somewhere different to play, so I drove down from Cincinnati after reading some good reviews about this course. It was an hour and forty five minutes from my house to the course. Worth every minute! The course starts off with some straight forward par 4's, a nice par 3 and a reachable par 5. After that get ready to play some golf. Holes 7 thru 18 are some of the most challenging you will play. The whole course had such a nice feel to it. No tricks, or gimmicks, just a solid layout. The greens were in such good shape, rolled true and were fast. The scary thing is, they could get even faster. I just can't say enough about this course. If you have the chance, take the drive down and play Big Blue! You won't be disappointed.
Great course
Would play this over and over. Fast greens even during lite rain, soft fairways and rough wasn't too heavy. Plenty of water on back 9, several holes where there was a need for precision shot
Challening water hazards
The course was in the superb condition, and the water hazards in the back 9 were quite challenging. Frankly speaking, I dumped 4 balls in the water hazards. I like their burgers, but the kitchen was closed when we played there.
The Day After the 2014 PGA at Valhalla
5 sets of tees on each hole offers a range of difficulty, from as much as 7013 yds to as little as 4874. There is a parking space reserved for JB Holmes, which adds to the course's allure. The greens are well protected by either bunkers or water. The City had more than 5" of rain the day before yet the course was mostly dry, even in the rough. I may not play as often or as well as I did 20 years ago, when I played courses such as Firestone, Doral and Olympia Fields. This course is just as beautiful as those.
fun track
First off let me say that this round was 4 years in the making, had 3 tee times here before but mother nature never allowed me to get it in. The course obviously has the ability to be top notch, but it wasn't to that standard at this point, the fairways were decent, rough was spotty, bunkers were chunky, but the greens were fast and smooth, the water was gross looking. ... my biggest issue on this round was the fact that I was in the middle of a scramble and they didn't warn me. .. the course was fun, challenging, and better than anything I have played this year other than old silo...
Challenge For Any Golfer
the Big Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky is the premier course of the Lexington area. It has spectacular conditions, curving fairways, difficult greens and target golf all in one. The course is a great challenge and definitely worth going to.
Great GolfNow Deal
Very nice course, playable for all caliber players. Generous fairways
Used all clubs in my bag, played #4 tees
Excellent bunkers
Huge greens and very fast, I had 4 three putts. I'm a 9 hdc, shot 41-42. will be better next time, there are a few holes I will definitely play differently. Distances to some fairways were deceiving, I will trust my yardage next time.
Putts don't break as much as they look, and try to stay below the hole.
Enjoy your round!!!
Challenging course
This was a great test for even the most skilled golfer. There is a lot of water to deal with and shot selection holes are aplenty. They are well balanced with the grip and rip holes which keeps the amateur happy. I would highly recommend this course to anyone. The greens were a little slow but the fairways were immaculate and the bunkers were in great shape as well. NOTE: their first tee time is 7:30am, not 7:00am as golfnow has it listed. I hope golfnow changes this.
University course with a resort course feel
Nicely maintained course with a typical Arthur Hills layout in the hills of Lexington. Open fairways to bomb your drives. Greens are not overly fast or sloped. Loved the downhill "island" green on #8!
Big Blue can make you blue
I live in Louisville, this course is better than any public course here in town. In my opinion it's worth the hour drive. The first 6 holes aren't very demanding. Starting with 7 you better bring your "a" game. The course is visually intimidating but there is ample room to play. This was my first time playing Big Blue, I want to go back, I feel that subsequent rounds the golfer will know where to hit the ball and how far to hit it. My only gripe was distinguishing where the flag was on the green. Some shots you were hitting up to the green, others you couldn't tell how deep the green was.
