Bad Business decision

I took a customer here when we came up for the PGA championship. The fairways or lack of was the worst part of the course. There is no what I would call grass on the fairways. It is crab grass if anything and you are basically hitting off dirt the entire time. The greens were good but I would not give this course a 3 star. I was embarrassed that I took my customer here.

tough to beat for $25

Great staff, fairways spotty in places as many courses in the area this year, greens in great shape. Oh my, the cart paths aren't pristine! How about you slow down then? Always a fun, usually quick round.

Course conditions were horrible and should be priced accordingly.

Fairways were horrible! Greens were horrible! Other than the friendly staff, this round was a total waste of $38. I can't believe with the course conditions that their not priced comparable to a Metro Parks course.

Good for Practice

There is nothing special about this course. The fairways are not in good shape and in some areas you will be lucky to find grass.

The greens are just ok and they roll pretty good. The bunkers need a lot of work and some of them are starting to grass over.

The layout is nice but the cours does not present a huge challenge.

This is a good place to go if you want to hit some balls.

Nice course

Older course. Nice layout. Greens were in good shape accept for people not fixing ball marks. We fixed at least 2 ball marks per person on every green. Fairways aren't in good shape. About half grass the other half is weeds and dirt but we moved balls to the closest grass. Other than that we had a great time. We would go back.

Lacking the basics

As others have said, the course is in rough shape but playable. Glenmary is an enjoyable design and can be tough. The teeboxes are in good shape, the fairways need some love but the greens are good (fast). The sandtraps are either really fluffy or darn near portland cement and the cart path will cause injury if you try to drive your cart on it.

After 5pm it's $20 for 18 and a cart so you can't beat it ~ it's daily rate of $35 is too steep for the shape it's in though.

Where this course lacks is the sheer basics to keep bringing golfers back. A course can't invest in itself without golfers, aka the lifeblood of its success, yet Glenmary struggles here.

Ironically they have a big sign stating they are having a Membership Drive.

It was a 98 heat index when we teed off. None of the water fountains in the clubhouse worked and they had an empty water jug sitting outside the clubhouse. there's no water anywhere to drink anywhere on the course and not even water in the ball-washers. The clubhouse said they would keep the jug out front full but didn't as when we made the turn there was nada. Walked inside to the bar/restaurant and had to wait as no one was around. Couldn't get water out of the fountain because they are all broken.

More frustrating was the fivesome in front of us that INCLUDED the course marshal! they played slow, searched for lost balls out in the woods and caused a back up across at least 5 holes. There is no reason a foursome shouldn't be able to finish 18 holes when teeing off at 5pm in 4hrs 30 minutes.

When we finally got close enough to them where they were on a tee box and we were on the green i asked one of the guys if they could speed it up (didn't even address the fivesome) and their response was for us to play two balls. There wasn't a group in front of them for at least two holes.

It was ridiculous. Will I be back?Yes - I've played this course since it opened and really enjoy it but can really understand why no one really wants too. I'll take people back as well i'll just make sure they have everything they need and don't rely on the clubhouse for anything.

there are plenty of better deals and even rougher courses but what they lack in shine they make up for in either customer service or making sure their golfers are taken care of.

Glenmary could learn a lot about that - if your course needs work your customer service and basics shouldn't especially if you are trying to succeed. Golfers will play a struggling course but not if they don't feel welcome.

Sad Shape

For a Sunday afternoon, the course had plenty of players, however it's hard to see how they are putting the money into keeping the course up. The first fairway is terrible. My drive was in the fairway, but I had to move the ball up five yards just to find a patch (can I call a one foot square grassy spot a patch?) of grass to hit my ball off of. Fortunately, that was the worst hole for the course conditions, through there is a lot of crabgrass on many of the other holes.

The cart brakes screeched something terrible for the first four holes, as if the brakes had not been serviced in a few years. The cart paths often looked like they were a part of the Oregon Trail, as they would have appeared back in the 1800's.

This is all really too bad, since the course seems to have enough character to be quite enjoyable. As it is, I'm wondering if their motto, "Historic Glenmary" is meant to be a double-entendre.

If I were the course owner, I think I would go out of my way to communicate with the players (and perhaps the bank?) what the strategy is for reclaiming this pleasant little course.

Glenmary golf club

This course was in sub par condition and very unkept. The bunkers were unplayable and the greens were very long and damaged with dry spots and ball marks.

Don't be fooled by the course website

The fairways were horrible. Either mud or crabgrass weeds or field grass. The bunkers often had weeds and were not raked for at least two weeks so they were compacted. The greens were in decent shape except for the fact that it seemed no one who had played in the last week ever repaired a ball mark. the sad thing is that this course was probably once one of the best in the Louisville area.

Nice layout and good value.

Course could be really awesome if it was maintained better. Sand in traps are a liitle hard and cart paths are very rough. Greens are in decent condition and very fast. Hole #6 is always fun to play as you are hitting off a high cliff to a reachable green on this par 4.

Glenmary Golf Course

This was my first time playing Glenmary golf course. I chose this course solely on the very reasonable price of 24.95/player for 18 holes with a cart.

The course has Bermuda fairways which, like all others in the area were in horrible condition. The tee boxes likewise were in bad shape. There has been no maintenance of the cart paths in quite some time, and in some areas they more closely resemble hiking trails. While I didn't find myself in any bunkers, they seemed to have received about the same attention as the cart paths.

Taking all the above into consideration, I thoroughly enjoyed my round of golf at Glenmary. The golf course has a beautiful layout despite some awkward transitions and tee locations relative to the previous greens. The greens themselves were in very good condition, relatively fast and putted very true. The golf course is tight in places with OB creeping in just yards off the fairway, but overall they designers made good use of the available space. It is a beautiful course with picturesque views off many tee boxes. I highly recommend the course at the $25 price point.

Cart path was horrible

This was the worst cart path I had ever seen. It must have been paved 40 years ago and hasn't been touched since. It was like driving on gravel. I could not drive on it afraid I would be responsible for damage to the tires or cart.
Another thing I hated was the score card did not show how to play the hole. When you arrived at the tee you had no idea where the putting green was located, if was dog leg left or dog leg right. You would just hit the ball and just take a chance you hit it in the right direction towards the green.

The course needs a lot of work done on it!!!!

The course has been going down for years! They need to either put more money into it and bring it back up to par or just close it! It use to be one of my favorite courses back in the late 90's and 2000's.

Fairways need help but overall good value.

Pace of play was great and greens were in ok condition. The fairways could use a lot of love. My friends and I played our ball up in the fairways. Overall a good value for what we paid to play.

Fun Course Needs Some Maintenance

Was able to play the course at 3:00pm for 18$ with GolfNow which is a great deal. This course used to be a very nice country club course however yesterday the fairway didn't exist. It's totally dead yellow ground and dirt with spots of dead grass. Greens were fairly decent but nothing special.

Need of maintenance.....BAD!

Played at Glenmary last year with my old son. I recall that #6 and #7 were fun holes. I returned for Father's Day with both my sons since all our other options were overbooked.... Many of the fairways were in really bad shape. The cart path was nothing but potholes and it almost felt like we were off-roading. The staff was very friendly but again the maintenance was lacking....how can any course call themselves a country club looking this bad.

So would I recommend the course? Yes, only if they do some needed work on it. If not, this is nothing more than lost revenue....on top of that you have to win back all those that you've upset and that refuse to play again at this course. Honestly, the owners need to read these comments on this site.

Good value

The course has a nice lay out, surroundings are nice and the fairways are tight on some of the holes. Compared to the courses in the louisville area, this course is one of the better values at $35 for a weekend tee time.

Terrible fairways and cart path

It's depressing when you drive the ball down the middle of the fairway and it is hard as a rock w/ very little grass near you to roll your ball.

Cart path is in terrible shape. It takes a toll on your back after a while.
