River Run Golf Course
About
River Run Golf Club in Ocean City is just minutes away from the beach. The golf course has different front and back nines that make for an interesting round. This Gary Player design starts out across a wide-open landscape before moving on to more tree-lined terrain on the backside. The tighter back nine is tougher than the first nine but overall it's an approachable golf course. The player-friendly layout is gentle enough for beginners with medium-sized greens that aren't especially difficult and generous fairways that offer plenty of room. There is modest bunkering along the greens and fairways and a few lakes and some marshland come into play as well. While River Run Golf Club may not be the most formidable test, the course provides just enough of a challenge for scratch golfers.

Go For The Green
i've played the course a few times. This was the best condition that i've seen the course. The greens were in great shape! As well as the fairways! If you're on a golf trip to Ocean City, MD, make sure River Run is on your list of courses to play!
Pretty Good Course
We played in late March so in fairness it was far from peak conditions. Greens were sandy. Sand traps were below average. Housing was being built feverishly around the course the day we played and looks like it will take up every square inch. Course was OK but I was expecting a little more.
Disappointed
I've been playing River Run for 20 years and the conditions continue to deteriorate. Lots of new housing construction on the property to which the golf course seems to have taken a back seat. Greens were aerated two weeks ago but are mostly sand. Bunkers are horrible - wet, hard, stony, with erosion bags showing on many. Two fairways were painted. No concessions. It'll be a while until I return.
This really nice layout deserves better.
A Little Gem Near Ocean City
I've played this course a lot in recent years but not in the last three years. I was surprised with all of the houses being constructed but it did not detract from the course's playability. Even with a massive rainfall the day before, the course absorbed the excess water nicely. Me and the crew look forward to playing again soon, especially after all of the construction is complete and the hitting nets are put into place for the new driving range.
Very good experience
Friendly funny and helpful cart guy. Even dove us out to the range (limited distance balls, short range). Rep at the front desk wasn’t as friendly. The course was in good condition. There was some grass clumps in the fairways, but not their fault. The recent rains made the course wet. The bent greens were magnificent!!! Nice layout. Would play again. Good value for the money.
Terrible Customer Experience
I had a 11:09 tee time on a Friday morning in September. Pace of play came to a standstill on the 4th tee. By the time we got to 10 there were 3 groups on the tee, one in the fairway and 1 on the green. Took 3 hours to play the back 9. There were so many groups on each tee that stories from the groups ahead of us started to filter back. Evidently the course let a 6some play and we were all stuck behind them. Totally unacceptable. This is a public course that gets a lot of play, so I was OK with the lack of grass on the tees, and the poorly conditioned fairways that were lost to heat and humidity. I'm totally not OK with the course taking our money and not monitoring pace of play. No marshals over the course of 5 1/2 hours of play in 90 degree heat.
A few other issues - they blew up the old driving range to make way for housing and cleared a 100 yard area off of the 10th tee for a new range. Because of the lack of space, the range balls are plastic waffle balls.
Also, they have abandoned the black tees, although some of the old black tee boxes are still maintained. In fact, it seemed like the blue tee markers were on some of the old black boxes, and some white tee markers were on some of the old blue tee boxes. They haven't rerated the course handicap for the current marker locations, so scores are probably not completely accurate if you are posting to GHIN.
Slow hot day
River Run is a fun course with an interesting layout,.The round took almost Five hours. The sand traps were in terrible shape. Lots of dried mud in the crusty traps. The course is still fun to play.
