Great course I would call TPC Owensboro!
Early in my round, I had the realization that if you abbreviate The Pearl Club, it is TPC Owensboro! I laughed as that is a perfect moniker for the course. I was told it used to be a private course (hence the big clubhouse), fell into bad conditions but has rebounded as the place was in outstanding shape.
The thing that struck me for the playability is that they are SEVEN different tee boxes! The first five holes actually play through corn fields. A little odd and unique. Starting on No. 6, the routing takes you through more housing developments and neighborhoods.
The greens have a lot of contour to them and are relatively challenging. Great elevation changes with wonderful views of the area.
They had Pearl Club branded tees in very nice new carts, and the attached cooler had two ice cold bottles of water. Two little things but are a nice touch.
I got a solid Friday twilight rate but it would be worth it to pay the normal day rate. I got out as a single and did not run into anyone ahead of me until the 14th hole but still played in about 3:20. If I am ever in the area, I for sure will head there again.
I loved it!
I loved it here. Lots of elevation change, variety of holes and great conditions. I was staying in Evansville and it was well worth the drive to go here and play. As soon as I was done, I wanted to play again!
Good layout, hard summer
Course layout was fine. Highlights are the front 9 par 3s which both play over water and the risk/reward par 4 10th. Tees and fairways were generally good. Greens rolled fine where there was grass, but there were numerous places where they were dirt, hopefully just from the long hot dry summer. Great value at $42 if conditions don’t get worse.
Best value of the season
I decided to go out and try this course out with my father in law, we have heard in the past the course was in trouble a few years ago. If it was wow what a turn around. The zoiza in the fairways were immaculate and If you hit nail them your rewarded with a great lie. Great food on the turn and we noticed several residence stopping and picking up lunch in their personal carts (if they live there and love the food that's a great sign) free driving range with your round. A+ good challenging course give it a try you won't be disappointed.
Best course in the tri state again!
You won't get views anywhere else! Greens awesome. Somebody's got this course in great shape. Zoysia and renovation work paying off this year. This course is BACK!
Nice course
Course condition, layout, green are all good.
I want to play again!
Much improved
I will return with added golfer, staff friendly, surprised how well tees, fairways, greens are in playing condition
better then last year
the greens are in better shape this year then last year when they was in poor shape from the winter
Course is coming back
Change of ownership, hard winters & dry spells all did their damage to this course. I still enjoy playing here and the course is slowly getting better from it's worst two years ago. The fairways are in decent shape, with some bad spots here and there. The greens were rolling very nicely and were in above average condition, aside from the typical ball marks that don't get repaired!
from public to private,now public
Course is in pretty good shape.Afew fairways need some work. The greens were all in good shape. You get free range balls,a small cooler on the cart had ice and 2 bottles of water. Also two small towels were in each cart.Lots of hills, water, and trees can make it a tough course if you don't hit it good.Would recommend to play.
Course under construction
This course really should be closed until all construction and renovations are completed. Charging full price when multiple fairways throughout the course remain unplayable is quite unacceptable. I have played this course multiple times, and think the improvements will definitely help out as they are much needed. If I did not book this tee time as a "hot deal" I would've been livid at the playing conditions. Some fairways haven't been maintained in what looks like a week minimum, and tee boxes were like hitting from the rough. They are extremely uneven as well. Overall I will not play here until all construction is completed. The course is barely playable, and still costs twice as much as the city courses. It is even more enjoyable to play Hillcrest twice than this course at the moment.
Fun little course
Fun little course that you can play around on. Forces you to play less than driver on many holes and some easy
Good greens - poor fairways and tee boxes
Enjoy the layout and challenges the course presents but the condition of the tee boxes and fairways put a damper on the round. The tee boxes have very high grass on them (black tees) and the mowers used to cut the fairways are either not working properly, driver error or lack of detail for the fairways to be so poorly cut! The course is very poorly manicured! I believe it could be improved tremendously with proper mowing.
On a positive note, the greens are slowly returning to the greens of old which translate to some of the best in the area. Not there yet but huge improvement over the fall and spring condition.
diappointed
It was my first time at The Pearl and it is a very nice layout but the course is in poor shape. Also there was no sign of anyone doing anything to improve the fairways and greens. Signs knocked over and looked like they had been for quite a while. Landscaping not maintained. There was almost no one on the course mid day on a beautiful Saturday so I can safely say cash flow is a big part of the problem.
Again, it is a nice layout. And the price was right through Golf Now.
Disappointed
The greens were in terrible shape. Only one green was playable. I asked why and they said they lost them when they aerified them. I hope they get them back because this was at one time an outstanding course. I'm glad I got this as a hot deal or would have been very upset.
The Summit is now called the Pearl
I played this course about weeks ago and the green were totally bars,NO Grass! I called 3 days ago and ask if the greens were grown in and playable. The told me yes they were in excellant shape. They were unputtable!. Many bare patches caused the ball to bounce around uncontrollably.Don't waiste your money,
Greens in BAD shape!
Greens in BAD shape! One didn't even have a hole, At least the weather was great!
This course is an absolute disaster
Worst course that I have ever played, this course used to be excellent but now it wouldn't make a good goat pasture
The new owner has completely destroyed the course by just trying to save a buck
Fairways getting better
Owners sprigged zoysia in June so fairways were a disaster early. But they are making a comeback. You still have to play it up and find grass, but wasn't an issue for our group. But the greens and the views are the best in the region. Next year this course will be premium.
