Best public course in Louisville Metro Area
The course is always in great shape and scoreable. Fairways are wide open and greens are large. It can be fairly difficult to get early morning tee times on the weekend during the summer. Also worth mentioning... This is a "dry" course no adult beverages are sold or allowed.
Hidden Gem
Great course in great shape. Played this course for the first time and can't wait to play it again. A few blind shots to keep it a challenge but after playing it once and seeing the holes sure to score better the next time. Not super long from the blues but a good challenge.
Nevel Meade remains in Good Condition
Paid $36 to play on a Sunday afternoon - pace was good, finished just under 4 hours. Fairways, greens and bunkers are in terrific shape. Tee boxes are a bit beat-up from the late season. Generous off of the tee, some small greens requiring accurate approaches.
Early season trip from Michigan
On a spur of the moment my son and I decided to try and find an open course "somewhere south" of Michigan. We thought Kentucky was a good bet and found Nevel Meade through golfadvisor. The course was in good shape for the late winter we had. The 70+ degree weather was most welcome. The course was challenging with some interesting changes in elevation (especially #14). The bunker placements protect the greens well. Thanks for the Kentucky hospitality! We will be back.
Nice place
Great tee boxes, fairways and greens! Played for the first time and I liked the course Would like it better if I played it more than once. Many elevation changes and blind shots but very fun to play. Paid $49 for 18 holes with a cart. A very good value. A little difficult to get to, but worth it. Pace of play was very slow on the Sunday my group played. More people walking then I've ever seen on one course. But that was okay as well due to the great weather, golf and company.
Great Links Course
The is one of the best Links style courses in the area. It is always in great condition and the greens are always in great shape.
Bring a few extra balls as the fecue is rough and it's hard to find your ball if your in it.
A must play course that will remain in your top 5.
Great course, great price
I've played this course quite a few times over the last few years and it never disappoints. For the time of year and recent weather the course was in great shape. The greens were a little furry, but that was to be expected. The only downside to the course is the distance gap on the tees. There is a 1000 yard gap between the blue and gold leaving you to either play from 6500 or 5500. Would like to see a tee in the 6000 yard range.
Great November golf.
Course was in great shape. Can't have better conditions for November golf and at $12, best deal of the year.
Unbelievable Links style Golf Course!!!!
We played on a windy day and got 18 holes in before the rain. This is a course that was "plush", fast undulating greens and magnificent!!!
great course
very good condition great layout what more can I say
Blind shots
Course was in great shape, too many blind shots though. And the hot dog I got for lunch was average
No Back Nine - Rudeness
I played Nevel Meade yesterday and it was an unpleasant experience.
The decisions they make at this golf course are a mystery. I do not recommend it.
The weather had been bad in the morning so we called to make sure they were open before we drove 25 minutes to the course. The Pro, or person behind the counter, was nice and told us that if we were worried about the weather we could pay for nine and then pay for the back at the turn. It had not occurred to us, but we agreed that might be prudent. Two of the three of us paid for nine while one paid for 18. The weather turned out to be fine. When we came in for the turn. Three different people were behind the counter eating fish sandwiches from a local restaurant. They said that they were not letting anyone out who had not already started and paid. We explained that we were told we could pay at the turn for the back nine. The staff dismissed us rudely and said too bad. Ironically, the third person in our group could go play if he wanted, but not us. Does that make any sense? Then as we were leaving they let another group go off one.
The decisions made at this golf course are a mystery. I do not recommend it.
Play it just for the views alone.....but watch out for SMUSHGATE...
Absolutely phoenominal course. Beautiful views, picturesque fairways with postcard mountainous back drops, what can I say it was worth every penny for views. With that said......My only complaint, which I think is a substantial one for most low handicappers..... I loved the design of the course, I mean you really have to drive the ball with some accuracy on a lot of holes or you will be in real trouble. Went birdie, par, par to start and then all the sudden the course became a mushy mess. With NO rain the last couple days the fairways on most holes were as mushy as I've seen. Problem with that is, I take a divot, you know like your suppose to. I do not play the ball off my left foot (I play R handed) and scoop or pick the ball off the turf like a lot of mid to high handicappers because they do not understand the concept of ball first then take your divot. I always take a divot, problem was that I couldn't take any sized divot that did not result in a huge chunk. 3 practice swings choking down more as I go with 3 huge chunks as a result. I understand that rain and wet conditions are part of the game, so I'm not belaboring Mother Nature, but there had been no rain in days.....which leads me to the obvious conclusion that they had watered the you know what out of their course to the point of rediculousness. It ruined my round as a result of being mind screwed on every shot wondering how mushy it was going to be under my ball. As a result I shot a 45 on the front 9, worst 9 hole score of the year. Outside of SMUSHGATE LOL, the course was all that and a bag O' Funyons.....best views I've seen outside of Crossville. You die hards know all about the views down in the mountainous, picturesque views of Crossville. I digress, get SMUSHGATE taken care of and you have a top 5 course in my book.

Great, Great, Great..value, condition, difficulty!!
we played on a very wet day...casual water and cart path only, but the fairways were in very good condition and once the rain stopped the greens dried out well and were very quick. if they let the rough grow up another inch this course would be very challenging. we played from the blue tees (6,557) and thoroughly enjoyed our round.
fun place
took our time. Had a great time with friends. Staff great. Course great. Go play it soon
Course needs some work
I last played this course 6 months ago. Looks like staff , including pro, has changed. The course is on a great piece of land, with a terrific layout. Normally pristine any time of the year, fairways full of divots, with no sign of repair by staff. No sand mix containers on carts. Carts have basic gps, f/m/b.
Clubhouse is nice, but bare bones. In a dry county. Will come back, please work on the grounds.
Too Many Blind Shots
First off, this course is in fantastic shape from tee to green. The superintendent should be commended. The architect...not so much. Of the 14 non-par 3 holes on this course, 10 have either a blind tee shot, approach shot or both. The severely sideways sloping fairways on a few holes didn't help my opinion much either. A lie with the ball 6 or 7 inches above or below your feet (to a green you can't see) isn't a reward for ripping one down the middle.
Great Shape
Course was in great shape. Terrific layout. Really enjoyed it.
I play this course almost weekly and it is always in great shape. The staff are very nice which include the grounds people.
I will continue to play here. I find the course in as good a shape as Vahalla.
Course needs some attention!
The Scottish Highland style course was in need of attention in mid August. The heather grass was trampled down leaving masses of six to 12 " deep rough, instead of 24 - 36" high heather. The sand bunkers and traps were sparsely filled with sand leaving several bunkers less than 1/2" deep, with either hardened dirt or compacted wet sand beneath. The greens were well cut and fast, but very hard and difficult at best to hold. Fill the bunkers and water the greens instead of the traps, and keep the carts out of the heather to return this course to prime condition. A great course in need of a bit more attention.
