Freeport Country Club
About
Freeport Country Club is conveniently located just 20 minutes from Portland, Lewis-Auburn, and Brunswick-Topsham and it is also only minutes from one of Maine's most popular attractions, the L.L. Bean flagship store. Freeport itself is also a charming destination, with plenty of shopping and activities available. The nine-hole layout is gentle enough for beginners but there are still a few challenges in store. The holes are tight and golfers will be confronted with the occasional elevated green. The course is known for having some of the area's best maintained greens. There are also three ponds that come into play. Whether you play a nine-hole round or a full 18 holes, the golf course is a great price, especially for the country club-quality. The well conditioned driving range at the club is also popular.

Freeport is a nice place but. ..
We all know Freeport is a nice place to shop and walk around but that's about it. I had high expectations for this course which may be why I was let down. The layout is weird and the holes are strange. Feels like someone just slapped this course together yesterday in there back yard. Greens are "ok" tee boxes are horribly uneven. If your a first time golfer this is the place for you but if not than stay away. Wish I had a better review but it is what it is. L.L.Bean should step in and build a links style course or something because this place doesn't do Freeport justice. Cheers.
Don’t do it.
Easily the worst course I have played. Ripped up fairways and incredibly weird layout. We had to go to the clubhouse to ask where the 3rd tee was. It was cheap and the greens were OK but other that that I wouldn’t bother.
Poorly marked and maintained
Hard to follow the holes as there were no signs directing us to the next tee box. Many singles and twosomes with no attempt to pair people up. Slow greens. I won’t be back.
Small details
Overall worth the price of admission. The map of the course seemed to not be 100% accurate which could be an issue for 1st time players.
Great Course
First time playing. Bit of a untraditional course. Some of the tee boxes are a little difficult to understand, like hole 5 and 9. No sand traps was a bit different. Beautiful course though and the greens were in good shape. Some of the pins were difficult placements, which is good to see. Fairways hit well. The one gripe I had was the tee boxes were really difficult to get the tee into. Look forward to playing here again.
Greens are nice. Fairways need work . Price was right
Dirt Patch
Compared to the other courses in the greater Portland area, the course is dead dry. I k ow we haven’t hD rain, but the shape of the course is terrible. If it was a municipal course I would be much more forgiving.
Mixed
Not great but also not going to break the bank to play...
Hello, Dan19gng:
Sorry to hear that your expectations weren't met at Freeport when you played. While we would never suggest that the course is the same caliber as a Sunday River Golf Club or Pebble Beach, it has definitely established a reputation over the last fifty years as a local track that's easy to get to and fun to play. And the practice facility is definitely worth checking out-- natural teeing areas, target greens and bunkers, a huge, undulating putting green.
We'd like to find out more about your experience and see if we can't get you back to Freeport for another try. You can go ahead and reach out to us directly at FreeportCCME@gmail.com , we'd appreciate the opportunity to reach out to you directly.
Thanks for your feedback, Dan. Fairways and greens!
