Riverside Municipal GC Portland, ME
RS is a very nice muni golf course. The staff is friendly, the pace of play average (18 holes in 4 hours is the norm), course condition is above average for a muni golf course., and the layout is interesting.
Cool and Crisp
Day was cool and crisp!!! Touch of fall in the air. Not many golfers on course so I got out early by myself.
Course was in good condition, though there seemed to be construction or renovation going on in many areas. Play was unimpeded and I went around the course at a comfortable pace!
Started out with jacket but by 7th hole was in shirt sleeves. All in all a great day to play golf! Wish my game was as nice as the day!!! LOL!!
Reservations
I booked online and was charged a fee for booking, even though I had a coupon for a round for $20. I ended up paying $20 plus thre booking fee. Was told it was because the online booking is they GolfNow, even though I went thru the course’s own website to book. Online booking should make things easier. This is not right and I am not satisfied. I live close by and am now considering traveling further away to play a different course from now on.
Good round
There course was in decent shape. Pace of play was excellent. Greens were on the slow side but consistent. Bunkering was good. Worth the trip if in the Portland area.
Riverside review
It is always a good way to start off your round with a smiling happy face to greet you when you check in and pay. Unfortunately at your course you have a gentleman who does not give you a very nice welcome. He was very rude and very short. My wife asked him a few questions about some clothing and was even more rude to her. This is not the first time we have had a bad experience with this gentleman and to be honest he is one of the reasons we do not frequent your course that often.
Evryhing else was great. The lady who runs the beverage cart was very pleasant and would hold a conversation with you.
After our round we ate lunch and the service was top notch and the food was delicious.

Nice municipal course
it was a nice municipal golf course. not long but,
had some challenging chips and pitches.
The only problem was the electronic marshaling of the carts. Their beeping was distracting and the carts sometimes froze up when 3 or less feet off the cart path. You had to back up to reposition. They should allow for more leeway in positioning. The beeping as a warning is fine just make it easier to get back into position.
Excellent value
This is a public course with a lot of traffic. In spite of that it is well maintained, is fun to play, has a really good pro and staff. I play a lot of different courses all over the state and come back to this one at least three times a year. Excellent value.
Early season round
The course was in very good shape for this tie of year. The pace was a little slow but not frustrating.
