Fabulous layout
Top knotch course. We'll maintained and very scenic. You can even see the Chesapeake Bay from the course and clubhouse. I played this course today on October 31 in a charity outing. Course staff was friendly. The facility has an awesome chipping and putting practice area. The pro shop is well stock and the restaurant/bar is awesome. I'd definitely recommend this course for stroke play or tournaments.
Challenging and beautiful
Bulle Rock is always a true test of golf in one of the most beautiful settings anywhere.
First time playing the course. No coordination between young folks assigning carts and starter. Was not told starting on #10 instead of #1. My group already teed off by the time I got to #10. Had to catch up with them. Afterwards waited on every tee in a 5 hour round.
One of harder public layouts in the area
Bulle Rock is one of the tougher layouts in the northern MD/DE/PA/South Jersey area, its greens are undulating and placement of your shots is key. The greens were in ok shape, they needed to be rolled but it was in the afternoon so that's somewhat expected, I expected them to be more manicured honestly but they rolled true and were tough. You really need to look closely to get a read. The fairways were in very good shape and rough was challenging. Most holes were driver although I opted for 3 wood on a couple to promote better second shots. I don't think its a particularly interesting layout but its pretty, lots of deer and a good challenge. They have several different tee box locations which makes it a good choice if your group has a variety of handicaps. My wife found it to be too long from the reds as a high handicapper that hits drives about 120.
A public & affordable course by a world-renown architect
I was super excited to find that there was a Pete Dye designed course that was public and affordable. . For it being early September, the course was in great shape - the greens weren't patchy and the fairways were incredibly nice. I've payed nearly the same amount to play on some municipal courses in the Philadelphia area and this place beats them all at least 10 times over. The greens are challenging and hard to get a read, but it leaves you with a great feeling when you roll in a long putt.
The staff were incredibly friendly - they seemed almost excited as I was that I was playing a Pete Dye course for the first time and were incredibly approachable. Pace of play was incredibly on the front 9 - finished in less than 2 hours. The back nine was a little longer, but it was a back up of multiple groups of 2 - and even still, it took maybe 2.5 hours to complete the back.
My only critique, and it's minor, is that the signs for each hole were no longer up - maybe they were getting them replaced? But it sometimes made it confusing when the cart path split two ways - thankfully, you're able to figure it out by using the visual on the GPS and a little logic.
In summation, if you're looking for an upscale feel at a price that most golfers can afford, this is a great place to go. You get to play a PETE DYE course for $100 - what more could you ask for?
Bulle Rock
I like playing this course. Always in good shape , greens are a challenge, nothing flat. Highly recommend.
Quite Good - But Not Great
Several years ago, I lived about 20 minutes from this course and played it occasionally, but not regularly, due to the high green fees.It set a high standard when it opened, but my recent trip back to the area was somewhat disappointing. I was only able to play about 5 holes due to a thunderstorm that remained in the area, but I noted the following. A top tier course should have high quality range balls. I was surprised to see a mixture of standard range balls and many were past their prime. The first green had several holes were wasps had infiltrated. Not a good look, especially on the first green. When the rain came, I discovered there was no pull down cover on the golf carts to keep the clubs dry- a pretty standard feature at most courses. I also discovered that the course has no audible lightening warning system. Rather, it relies upon messages that display on a small (iPhone like) GPS units in the cart. The public course I play in the Atlanta area has a lightning detection system that generates a loud warning siren when lightning is within 5 miles of the course. If Bulle Rock wants to hold itself out as a top tier golf course, it needs to step up its game.
A challenge
Course was in great shape. Greens were slow for Bulle Rock but still pure as always, and rough was very challenging. Fescue was so thick, it was a lost ball.
Stunning
Extremely great value for the money. Solid short game facility and driving range. Excellent staff. Course was in great shape. Will be back soon.
Practice facility
Make sure you get here early so you can take advantage of the practice facility, it’s fantastic.
97 Degree weather (Brutal t conditions)
Not a very good day to play.
The course itself is always challenging and in prestine tour like conditions.
The greens were begging for moisture and not as good they usually are.
The best part was the resteraunt after the round. A few cold ones make you realize
No matter how tuff things were. You are blessed to be able to play a course like BULLE Rock.
Cheers
