Tough Course
First time playing this course and I have to say it is a difficult one. The distances off the tees are not overly long but the difficulty is that if your tee shot or second shot is wayward, you will really be struggling.
Again, if you are off the fairway, you will need a masterful short game to chip through the pine trees to get back into play. Most courses I play have wider fairways so this course really was a challenge.
I thought the tee boxes and greens were in good shape considering the winter as well as the sand bunkers. HOWEVER, none of the sand bunkers (around the green or fairways) had a rake.
Bowie Golf
The course offers some unique challenges and overall is a good track. The management team is beginning some much needed improvements starting with the driving range. Hopefully the cart paths will be next. The greens are excellent and the fairways very playable. Unlike some courses the bunkers are playable and groomed.
Traditional course design on the mend
The effort to bring this traditional style course layout back to playable conditions is admirable. Not there yet but good value in the meantime with friendly staff.
Cart path restoration
I’ve been saying this for years, cartpath needs to be restored
Not Bad
Course and clubhouse are not up to country club standards, But, for playing in February, I got a very decent price ($25 including a cart) via TeeOff.com. Played with a couple walk-ons, who were nice guys to play with. Course was in decent shape where it concerns tee boxes, and fairways. Greens were a little shaggy but playable. I was happy being out in tolerable weather to play a round..
Much Better
This is my 4th time playing this course and i can honestly say it's in the best shape I've seen for years. Right now it's out of season but it's still be pretty good shape considering the weather we've had. They have come a long way over the past 3-4yrs. Greens and fairways are in decent shape and the price can't be beat!
I'll play it again.
The course was wet so, expectantly, it was cart path only. Nevertheless, I was able to get out and play 18 holes. Wet conditions created challenges to playability. Nevertheless, I was able to get in 18 holes and because the level of difficulty of the course wasn't high, I enjoyed my round in spite of the wet conditions.
Bowie Upgrading
I've played this course about 20 times over the years. This time was a cool (upper 40s and sunny) day in early January and the course was fairly busy. The course was in good condition---especially the greens--considering heavy rain two days ago.
The front nine is flat, while the back nine is hillier with water coming into play on three holes. Its not a long track but fun to play. I walked and it took 3 hours to cover 18 holes and some 6.75 miles.
To me about $30-$35 is the right price to walk this course, which I am sure that I will play a couple of more times this year.
I did not rate the staff because I literally had no interactions with anyone!
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the course and that you appreciate the improvements we're making. We hope to see you back soon!
