About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 12/2018
Patuxent Greens Golf Club is tucked behind stands of mature trees that provide the course with a peacefully secluded feel. The original course was built in the 1960s but the layout underwent a major renovation in 2005. The focus of the golf course has always been the beautiful setting, which serves as home to an abundance of wildlife including deer, heron, beavers, and golfers might even see the occasional bald eagle. The layout has plenty of risk-reward holes, including the sixth, one of the golf course's most memorable holes. This short par 4 presents different shot making options. You can either lay up between 100-150 yards out, or challenge yourself and attempt to go over the tree-lined dogleg to the green. Patuxent Greens Golf Club finishes with its signature hole, a scenic par 4 that plays to a peninsula green, backed by a view of the clubhouse.

Pautuxent Greens Hole #14 Photo submitted by scottawp290 on 04/29/2013
Course is Closed
May Patuxent Greens Rest in Peace. It closed for good on 12/31/2018 and will eventually become another housing development.
aog
the rain has real punished this course. fairways 1, 9 and 18 are mud flats. It was cart part only. the greens were fair, but course really needs to recover.
Course Closed
Unfortunately, when I arrived at the course it was closed due flooding. No one alerted me prior that the course would be closed due to raining before making an hour drive to the course. The raini and flooding of the course happened 5 days earlier.
I made reservation for course the day before I was to play via Golfnow. When we arrived to play, we were informed that the course was closed due to flooding on course. My problem was that, obviously the course was flooded before I drove an 1.5 to get there. I don't know why the tee times were still listed for this course on Golfnow, as it was obvious the course could not be played in that condition. we were told that they might be open by this weekend. I'm sure if I went to Golfnow, I could reserve a tee time for tomorrow, and it would still be closed. I wasted time, gas, and the opportunity to play somewhere else.
ok for the price
Course was in decent shape. Some dead spots on fairways and greens, but not too bad. I am not a serious golfer, so just placed my ball in nearest patch of good grass. The rough just off fairway was too long, in my opinion. Greens rolled true. I mostly hit irons off the tee, as this course is pretty tight. Maybe 2-3 holes I felt comfortable letting the driver rip. Enjoyed the layout. Not really any holes that weren't fun.
Starting to go SOUTH
When the 2nd cut along the fairway and the grass in close proximity to the greens in over 6 inches , it makes for a tough morning to find your ball ( If you are lucky). ( I have a small ruler in my bag) Maintenance has suffered here as the grass is not cut regularly ( Mon to Thurs) , the sand trap are not groomed and the fairways are balded & black from a disease. Yes , I play here from time to time because I have the course to myself at the crack of dawn and the price is tolerable for the conditions. As cheap as the GolfNow deals are for this place, I have started to reconsider.
New owner bought this place almost 2 years old and while some money was put back into the place for new golf carts, I have witness the course conditions go down. Yes, Mother Nature is something that can't be controlled and impacts the conditions , but I first hand have seen less and less staff working first thing in the morning. The ownership is looking to rezone the golf course and build......you guessed it, mix-used residential and business offices. So you know where their efforts are and are not. I don't blame them. Its only business and very soon, playing for FREE will not be worth my time here. After losing 2 Ft. Meade courses to development it will soon happen here and the convenience of this location will be no more.
I am guessing that weekend play is better after some maintenance but for the price of their greens fees, you can fair a better course in better shape elsewhere. In Summary, easy course that has some very good water hazard challenges and makes for a good course to practice your game before you take it elsewhere. Final Note: A lot of divots on the greens: Golfers need to help and fix their ball marks and one or two more along the way at each hole.. Shot an 86 from the tips with 3 bogies , one double bogie to include a 4-putt .
The 4-putt was a first in a long time and the divots on the green did not impact that. It was all me.
wonderful
this was my first time playing on this course and i would recommend this course to all golfers, and the staff was awesome
Great layout.
This course in its day had to have been top notch. Unfortunately it has been purchased and will be shut down for “progress”
Complete Mismanagement
Played yesterday (late morning) with a friend. Fully expecting a long round with it being Father's Day, but did not expect this.
Teed off 10-15 min late, and took three hours to play the front 9. Unfortunately we didn't realize that it wasn't the course being crowded, it was a family of 4 a few groups in front of us who were slower than molasses. A full two holes behind the group in front of them. No marshal or anyone on the course to keep the pace of play.
Other than the greens being okay, the course is in horrible shape. Looks like the county may be interested in closing it soon as well. Won't be back, not even for the discount price we payed.
Front 9 closed
We arrived early for a 6:15 tee time, nobody showed up at pro shop until 6:45.He told us there was a frost delay and would be 30 minute wait, did not care that we waited over 30 minutes for them to open. 10 minutes later came out and said by the way front 9 is closed and back 9 was aerated the day before.I asked why it was not online as an advisory and he said there was no way of doing it.I have booked over 100 rounds on golf now and they put a advisory at courses that have aerated greens but they failed to do so.I drove 45 minutes only to deal with incompetence on their part!!
No aeration notice
Arrived at golf course early for 6:15 tee time, Pro Shop was not open. They arrived at 6:45 told us that there was a frost delay which we did not see any. Told us it would be a half hour wait and after 10 minutes walks outside to tell us oh by the way front 9 is closed and they aerated the back yesterday with no warning on website that aeration had occurred. I have booked hundred rounds of golf on GolfNow and courses normally let you know if there is an advisory! We booked a tee time at a different course and left, we will never go to that Golf Course again
Great deal.
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great deal on Golfnow.
Great time!
The course was in very good shape and the weather was excellent! I would definitely play there again!
