Saturday Afternoon

Course was in great shape and can't beat the price for a mid-day round through golfnow. First hole always is a tough challenge to start. Always enjoy the scenery when playing here. A real hidden gem.

Nice tract with several gorgeous holes

This is a very nice golf course. Scenic with some gorgeous holes. Elevation changes are dramatic, some of the landing areas are quite narrow and there are two par 3's that will have you scratching your head about which club to use. But the course was in beautiful shape and if you want to play an interesting and challenging course, this is a good play.

Always a test and a pleasure to play.

Little Bennett is a rather unsung course and is a bit remote in its location. Very hilly and challenging course, though not long. Very fast greens and pristine conditions on this visit. This course is always in great shape any time of year and it has become my go to on days when I play as a single as it is rarely crowded. Also, when it has recently rained, LB drains exceptionally well, and I have been allowed to drive on the fairways a few hours after torrential downpours. Almost never is it cart path only.

Great course for the price

The course was in great condition...greens were fast and the Rough was at a tricky length that made wish you hit it in the fairway. The elevation changes made it hard to tee off and see the greens from the fairway.

I would play there again and recommend this course to others.

Little Bennett- challenging and fun course

Little Bennett Golf Course is a challenging and interesting course, however, you need to play it a few times to learn the layout before you can truly enjoy the game because the elevation changes create a number of blind shots. Staff are friendly, carts are nice, and the course is well maintained.
The only complaint is that charging $5.00 for a can of Stella Artois beer is unfair to the customer.

My own private club

Little Bennett offers me a private club course without the high cost of membership and and formalities.
It's quite challenging and play can vary greatly from one day to the next so I never find it repetitive or boring. It's location is convenient with great views of Sugarloaf Mountain from just about every hole. The staff is friendly and accomodating. For the most part, fellow golfers are courteous and observe the rules. Careful with carts on the downhill paths on the par threes which can be slippery when wet.

a little bit of everything

I've played this course several times and I'm heading out that way tomorrow so I will "review" this course based on past experience and see if my review holds up :)

This is an odd course. The area is hilly and the course has you playing up and down hills, quite substantial hills, over creeks and waste and what not. There isn't really a flat, clear hole on this course. It's not "super-hard" but it's not a beginner's course, not by far. You're either hitting uphill or downhill or across some giant ravine on every shot. There are two short par-3s and several par4s with a drop of at least 100 feet from tee to green, not counting the ones where you're playing up 100-200 feet or across a valley. And it's not short either, nor are the fairways very wide, or the rough very short. It is easy to bite off more than one can chew here, hit a club or two too long and find yourself in the woods assuming that you don't top your ball trying to hit it long. So, yes, it's a challenge to keep the ball in play here when the natural instinct is to play long...if you have trouble keeping your drives and irons in front of you then do yourself a huge favor and club down. You'll save yourself a lot of time and trouble searching for your ball. One redeeming feature is that there is only one blind shot that I can think of, on a par5 on the back side, and two "sort of" blind shots on the front, on the 2nd and 3rd holes, and one water shot, the first hole. The greens are almost uniformly flat, wide and fairly unguarded, the trick is getting to them. For most of the course you just want to hit fairly-straight intermediate-length shots because often you will lose track of your ball if you hit it more than a few degrees offline and it'll land out of sight and trust me roll into the woods which are not trivial on this course. It is extremely easy to lose your ball on this course, especially hitting up or down the way that you have to, to play it. I'm not sure that it's really worth the effort. Except for a few holes the rewards are rarely worth the risk and effort and a good round depends as much on luck as anything else. But if you want something different that's not too far away from DC and not too expensive, then Little Bennett is definitely the place. And the deck of the clubhouse is a great place to sit and watch your peers battle the 9th, 10th and 18th holes. Now that I think of it I may have to try the P.B. Dye course that's down the road, I've been by it 20 times and never played it in favor of this course. Mainly because this one is so much cheaper than the other. So I'll try that one and write a review to compare it to Little Bennet.

Little Bennett

Fun course to play, well maintained. Playing for the first couple times may be challenging not seeing where the green is on certain holes even from fairway.

Great course - slow weekend round

Little Bennett is a favorite local option of mine so long as I can get a reasonable rate. If you can get patient and embrace the fact that it'll be a long round, I suspect you'll enjoy the course. The course alternates between holes that will challenge your distance control of the tee and some holes where you're given the opportunity to take a rip. Accuracy is important for many holes and you will often find yourself calling on feel/judgement for approach shot yardage control. All in all, this course is challenging from the tips (though still not a very long course), but there's also a fair chance to go low.

Have fun.

Worth a shot

Pleasantly surprised. A group of us travel to the Frederick area once per year (me from OH, others from Philly area). We have played PBDye several times, MD Nat'l once, Whiskey twice, Worthington several times, Hollow Creek once, Rocky Gap (not Frederick area) a few times, and Musket Ridge several times including on this trip. Our group only cares about golf (food & beverage is not important).
Keep in mind that we played in May and it has been a cool and wet spring impacting (I think benefiting) course conditions.
CONDITIONS - Being a muni course, we weren't expected these conditions. Fairways were lush, no bare spots. Rough was lush and penal, but not too tall to make it difficult to find a ball (and we were in the rough a lot). Fairways on par with Whiskey (best of our experience)
PACE - very good, we were not held up by anyone and we did not hold anyone up, but we were slow being the first time we played the course. We teed off at 9:20am, but being cool and breezy it may have kept people away.
VALUE-for us was excellent due to the $15 replay. We always try to play 2 rounds/day. Regular $70 green fee is appropriate.
GREENS-very good. Not too fast, not too slow, not too tricked up, IMO.
LAYOUT-good. Three of the four Par 3s are too similar, i.e., short and drastically downhill (like 2 club lengths worth). 9 and 18 are also too similar. These brought the layout score down.

Don't be afraid to give it a try. It is definitely worth a go.

This is a short but very challenging course, specially for women. All par 3 going down but all other holes going up the hill. You will want to go back again and again.

WOW!!!

I have played many courses in my day and I can say this course ranks as one of the best. It is such a beautiful course with lots of hills. the greens were fast and hadn't yet established for the year but they rolled true. I am looking forward to playing this course during the spring, summer, and fall. If you live in MD, VA, DC, WV, or PA, mark this as a must play. Very, very nice course.
