It’s not great
Very very average municipal like course that is some what poorly maintained. Layout is bizarre. It is not what you hope to get for around $80 a round. That plus a total lack of amenities isn’t worth a positive review. Some nice views of the landscape would be a positive for this course.
Wasn't as bad as recent reviews
Read recent reviews and was pleasantly surprised. The greens were in good shape. The fairways weren't bad either. The bunkers lacked sand but for the $35 greens fee, it was a decent course
Needs maintenance
The course is nice but for the price you would expect more. The bunkers are untended. Some had exposed corrugated pipes and grass growing. Had to play them as ground under repair. The greens had huge dead spots around the aprons. They ruined the layout when they eliminated some of the nicest holes and added a par 3 from the fairway of an old par 4.
E&R18
Love the course. The sand traps are in poor condition and need work. Some of the holes with water had too many geese. The goose droppings were everywhere, on the greens, fairways, tees and actually the roughs. That was a problem on about 5 holes. They need to get rid of the critters somehow. They are more than an annoyance.
This course has potential. Poorly maintained.
This course could be nice, but poorly maintained and odd design. There was no driving range or putting green to practice,. We went off at 8:10 in the fog. Played the first hole with no visibility and the 2nd wasn’t much better. it was crazy wet. Fairways have some issues and if you end up in the rough forget finding your ball. Hole 16 was very odd. With water twice. The gas carts with no gps were noisy smelly and not great. The fairways were like rough and the first cut on the putting greens were like fairways .We we’re disappointed. Not worth the cost.
not ideal conditions
The staff is very polite which made the experience a little better. The course has a decent layout but needs some serious work. Bunkers are dirt and the whole course is burnt out. Definitely not worth $70.
Pass
More of a muni trying to pass itself off as an elite resort course. “Clubhouse” is in a hut they convert from the ski season. There is no putting green or driving range. Course basically caters to families that are staying at the Wisp Resort. Most clearly don’t play golf regularly. There was literally 4 groups on the par 5 first hole b/c the foursome on the green had apparently never played golf before; was determined to find EVERY ball they shanked into the weeds and backed everyone else up. None of the bunkers were raked and weeds had overgrown portions of the course. Given all factors, I’d recommend driving 15 minutes to play in Oakland or pay an extra $20 and play at Lodestone.
I played the course 20 years ago as it was originally designed and it was in good condition and challenging but worth playing. It is a true tragedy what they have done to this course with adding new holes but taking away the best ones and turning it into a strange layout with three par fives and three par threes on the front nine and a part 34 on the back nine. The first nine does not return to the clubhouse tent. There’s no water on the course to drink no card girl or bathrooms. The sand traps were in horrible condition and look like they had never been attended to. The only good thing was the pace of play since there were no other people playing the course.
Could be an Excellent course
If they would ever rework the sand traps and put sand in them. The course would be 1st class. It definitely would out class Rocky Gap.
The only thing keeping this course from being a 5 star is the sand traps
Get layout, Friendly staff, tough but fair course with good greens!
Great weather golf day
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I love the layout they have some really scenic holes. I usually play this course once a year. Always the same time of year however the conditions weren't all that great. The tee boxes needed to be cut and the fairways as well. Plus none of the sand traps had any sand, just hard packed mud. Perhaps a few of them were washed out. A little too pricey for a resort course in my opinion. However my son and I still had a great time making memories. We made this a tradition so I'm sure we'll play it next year.
