Rebuilding
Have played this course several times over the years, and like many clubs, it has been struggling financially. It's under new ownership as of June, and I'm happy to say they are bringing it back to life! The hilly, partially wooded course plays better and better each week. This year has been bad for rain, so some rough is just getting manageable. It has some interesting switchbacks and is enjoyable to play. It's not terribly crowded, so its not impossible to get in a late evening round.
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Anxious to see the future for this place. Definitely worth a round and a watch. It's in my backyard, so I would like to see it succeed!
Course needs a good amount of work
The course was in bad shape, I’m thankful for the good deal I got through golf now. The fairways were the shape of the rough and the rough was high weeds. I can say this I will not be going back and finding a better local course. I have never lost that many balls on a course.
Fool me once...
They should be ashamed to charge 40 dollars. I understand that they are trying to rebuild, but that's just sad.
Great greens nothing else
As the title says, the greens here are fantastic. Everything else needs overhauled. Stay off the cart paths. Two holes pay thru the main road. Yes don't hit the vehicles. Plus tee boxes are right behind the greens. Meaning don't hit long or get a bad bounce or your hitting someone. All bunkers are now grass. Hope they get some help. Be a gem otherwise. Not planning on going back. Even for $10 with cart. Just not worth it.
Good value
Good place to hit balls. Other reviews were right, needs some maintenance. I was pleased for the price we paid. It is cheaper then other courses around.
Pinnacle of Neglect
Unfortunately, despite the maturity and quality layout/design, this course has clearly been completely neglected for several, if not many years. Because of the threatening weather conditions, we had the course almost entirely to ourselves, and the pace was obviously great. The only decent aspect of this course was the condition of the greens. The tee boxes, fairways, hazards and rough were all completely unkempt and clearly hadn't been touched in eons. The tee boxes were like uneven rough, with grass length varying anywhere from 0-6" and were all extremely lumpy, making it unduly difficult to even tee the ball up with any consistency. It was disheartening to see a course with such potential and evidence that it was a beautiful course in some bygone era, but now is only a decaying ghost of its former self. Unless the owners make some hard-core changes and hire an army to get out there and clean up, shape up, and give the course a complete over-haul, we strongly urge golfers of all skill levels to give this course a wide berth for the foreseeable future. We were comforted only by the fact that we used Golf Now to pay less than $20 each with a cart ( it was cart-path only because of the wet conditions from previous day's rain). Go elsewhere!
Great views
We were looking for a golf course along I 68 on our way home from Gettysburg. This was about the right distance so we gave it a try. At one time it was probably a fine course but it's in decline. The fairways were full of dandelions the ruff was in serious need of mowing, on one hole the cart path has fallen into a pond so a wood barrier has been built to keep you off thr path. The sand traps have been allowed to go back to grass with GUR signs stuck in most bunkers. At the club house the snack basket was full of crackers that may have been original equipment.
On the upside 6 beers for ten bucks was nice and the panoramic view of Frostburg was beautiful.
Great Course
Wow! I saw the course on golf now for a great price. A friend and I made a road trip 140 minutes each way to play this course. We didn't have high expectations but we were shocked by this course. It's a very long course but many drives are down hill which shortens it some. The tee boxes weren't the greatest but the course just opened for the season so I'm sure it'll improve. The greens were descent with good feel when putting. I thought the course was fairly easy considering its length. Carts are brand new which is a plus. Check it out. You won't be disappointed. I'd make the trip again.
