RIP MVCG
This course closed permanently on November 31, 2013 :(. If you never played there, you missed a very nicely designed course.
Good course, bad cart paths
The course is good but the amenities are lacking. The cart paths were so rough it was uncomfortable riding on them. Signs to the next first tee, 10th tee, next tee were lacking. Greens rolled smooth but some had holes in them. Rough was plush, and most fairways were in good shape. The course is showing its age. Not very user friendly, especially for players not familiar with the layout.
Good value but some greens need work
This course with a bit more investment can be one of the topmost public courses in the area. A bit disappointed with greens as there were too many brown and sun-scorched baked areas. But I like the design. fairways were fine. Car paths continue to deteriorate. Course does have a lot of potential though.
Nice
Sad to hear that the course will close in November. It was a very nice course with long par 3s and some holes that placement was essential.
Put some sand in the traps
Greens and Fairways were fine. There was very little sand in the traps. About a half inch then your club hits a hard clay-dirt surface which is jarring. If I played again, I would take a lift from the traps. I liked the course layout and had a good time on the 15 holes that I avoided the traps.
sad to see it close
Since playing the last few weeks here its very sad to see the course closing in November the staff are super friendly and the food is very good fresh fruit and home made soup . I'm going to play as much as I can till closing hope they can petition the owner to stay open there are enough houses around !!!!!!!'''
Rainging but Good Round
Rain during round, but had a lot of good shots, found out they are closing will be sad to see them go.
Changes
Changes made to the course since new management took over. The course was generally in good condition but some of the greens were full of pine seeds. Maybe it is early in the season and the groundskeeper had not had a chance to blow them off.
Good Value on GolfNow HotDeal
Played in 3 hours by myself. Course is not crowded during the week. Some fairways and sand traps could be in better condition. Stay out of the rough or you will lose balls (and strokes).
On it's way out
Talking to member who joined us on hole 3 he claims that the new owner is trying to re-zone property to build houses and is letting the course go. It appears that way, looks like it was a pretty nice course in the past. Greens were still descent but fairways are very patchy lots of dirt to play off of. Will not be going back.
Great Value
The deal for 30 bucks is worth it. The course was a little rough around the edges but in decent shape. The greens are fast and in great shape with minor spots that will need repair. Overall it is great place to work on your game at a low price for a decent 18.
good fun course
the course is somewhat challenging with nice fairways an quite a few bunkers. great course for mid level players and beginners. experienced players will fine it enjoyable but not real difficult.
Bring back the course
I think this course is a possible gem besides the fact that only half of their fariways have green grass on them. Greens are fine, the rough is rough but the fairways; some have green grass some look like the Arizona desert.
Friendly staff and great service. Fix the fairways please......has great potential.
While it was not Augusta, the greens were gorgeous and quick
The greens were in excellent conditions and very quick. MVGC has done a nice job transforming those greens back to what they used to be.
However, the course definitely should put some of their focus on the bunkers. Unfortunately, there was too much sand as if i was playing out of the beach at Ocean City. When a player goes into a bunker he doesn't expect it to be full of rocks and dirt and worry about hurting his wrists and damaging his clubs on every shot.
Besides that the only complaint is that the general manager running the operation is not the friendliest. The pro wanted to pair me with a twosome or threesome however the club manager would not let me go until my exact time even though I was by myself. When I made it out onto the course the place was chalk full of twosomes.
These twosomes should have been paired up and the singles should've been placed with two's or three's.
I hope that Monument Realty keeps this course and they give their top employees a personality exam because their other employees deserve a gold star for their customer service and others need to learn from them.
this course has great greens!
After a harsh winter, I was pleasantly surprised at how great the putting surfaces were. The grass in the fairways was still dormant and just beginning to come back. Overall, a great golfing experience...can't wait to get back soon and challenge this course again.
Some challenging holes
The course was not in good shape, but given the winter we've had, that is understandable. There was a good amount of standing water. I would like to see the course later in spring or summer to really judge the condition. The course is rather tight and the par threes are long and challenging.
Nice greens and fun course
I was only able to play 9 holes. I lived in Montgomery Village over 20 years ago when the course was private, so I only played it a couple times. I got the opportunity to play 9 holes late in the afternoon when no one was around. The greens are large and elevated. They rolled true. The course condition is not prime but good. I played really well, which helped with my enjoyment, but I was very pleased with the course. I just wish I could have played the back 9.
Requires grass condition
The location is very good. Golf course design is also interesting.
Staffs are terrific and humble.
The only wanted thing is fairway grasses are almost die.
The color of grass become grey and yellow.
I'm looking forward good condition for next visit.
NICE TRACK
Upon arrival the appearance wasn't very impressive as we observed the mixture of dormant Bermuda and Rye grass overseed, but the course was very enjoyable. The greens were nearly perfect and I love the classic "Old School" layout.
