Told to skip the signature hole
I had a weird experience playing at P B Dye on 9/29 Friday. First of all, the range ball is no longer included in the green fee. I was paired with 3 other players as a foursome. The guy whom I rode the golf cart with played slowly. After 8th, we were told by a marshal that we were 17 minutes behind. We picked up the pace a little bit at 9th, but were told to skip 11th par 3 (signature hole) and make up that hole after 18th. At 13th, 2 guys in my group lost patience and went ahead to play by themselves. The foursome behind us were not a fast group either. I did not see them at the back 9 at all. When we made up 11th, there was a long wait. A couple of slow player can ruin many people's rounds. I am not sure how marshal can fix that.
Great Course
Tremendous course in perfect condition and a extremely friendly staff. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is the pace of play. Basically waited every shot. Not sure if it was because tee times are every 8 minutes or people playing ahead of us being slow and too much course for them or a combination of both.
Not as good a bang for the buck
Not as good a bag for the buck as are other courses that I have booked with my golf apps. That said, it is a nice course, with nice amenities. Just not as great of a deal as others.
Great Experience
Although a bit of a drive for me, this course was a great experience from start to finish. Being greeted in the parking is always a great start for a potentially really good golf experience for me. Complimentary range balls and service with smile also contributed to a very day at a very good course. Took a pic of the scenery on the very first hole. Course was well manicured with some distinctive and challenging holes. Overall a 4-4.5 experience at this course. Look forward to playing again
BUGS!!!!! Lots and lots of them
The bugs are horrible. I got ate up all 3 holes. On the third hole I was putting I had bugs in both ears and my nose. That's when I couldn't take it any longer. I left. When I got home I had red dots on my arms my legs, and face. The first 3 holes were beautiful but I'll never see the other 15. I'll never come back.
Nice Course
Everything was great except for the clubhouse's idea to let golfers off both the front and back at the same time, which led to quite a slow back nine. Everything else was super great, including the deal on Golf Now which included a cart, range balls, and lunch, all for one great price!
First time here
Got a great deal on GolfNow for this. Nice course, layout can be challenging, greens are undulating and difficult. Probably not a great place for beginners. Pace of play was VERY slow, and there a lot of gnats in various places on the course.
Nice but challenging
Course is in great condition. Signs for 1st Tee could be better.
Course in good shape
Matched with good 3 some never played with before. Tight elevated greens very challenging. . green much better shape and faster than previous visit. Staff very helpful
Can Never Be Gotten or ForGotten (*_*)
Challenging, beautiful and friendly course. GolfNow gave me a good rate, but I surely plan on traveling the distance and paying the price to golf here again. From the moment I arrived, to the moment I left; I never stopped taking pics!! (Good thing they didn't charge me haha). The staff and starter couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful. The course was super challenging at times, had lots of blind shots, and I lost lots of balls in the long green stuff. But what the heck. PB's Signature Golf Hole says it all, simply breathtaking and memorable. (*_*)
Beautiful PB dye
This is one of the prettiest courses in Maryland. It is challenging but fair. Fairways are wide. Hazards are obvious but not intimidating. Beautiful clubhouse with gorgeous view overlooking the course
Good conditions but SLOW play!
If you've played PB Dye you know it's a tough course. The Gold tees which are 6374 are challenging including a 196 yard par 3 that was playing into the wind with a back pin stretching it out to 218 yds according to my Bushnell. Back to back par 4s that are out 430+ yds on what is a tough front 9.
Throw in cart path only and Marshalls that drive around but don't actually make any comments on slow play and you have a 5 hour 15 minute round with an 8am Sat am tee time. Our group was waiting on every tee box and fairways.
If you don't care about pace of play and what a challenging course, this could be for you. The greens and fairways were in very good shape.
Fully Restored!
Whatever changed this course made in it's staffing a couple years back continue to pay off. I remember it being so bad a couple years ago that we were teeing off mats on the Par 3s!
Thankfully those days are in the past. The entire course is in GREAT shape...tees, fairways and greens.
I can't wait to get out there again.
Pace of play
PB Dye is a fine golf course that I have played many times. I stopped playing there a few years ago because the pace of play made it so frustrating. I thought I would give it another try because I like the course so much. However after 5 holes I had to wait between 5 and 10 minutes on every tee shot and every shot from the fairway. Management is doing something wrong to allow chronic slow play to persist for years. After 4 hours and 30 minutes I quit with two holes to play. I played another course in the area the week before in 3 hours and 30 minutes on the weekend
A Must-Play
From the moment you are greeted at the Bag Drop until you've putted out on the 18th green, P.B. Dye Golf Club is an amazing experience. Even though I played on a GolfNow Hot Deal, I was treated like a member at a private country club -- from free range balls to playing extra holes at no cost (with the Pro Shop's blessing). The course was in fantastic shape and, while it was crowded, we were never waiting or pushed. You'll have plenty of room off the tee box, but you need to have your short game in top form to score well here. Even with the challenging greens, I enjoyed my round more than just about any I've played this season and look forward to coming back. If you've never played here, you owe it to yourself to give it a go; you won't be disappointed.
PB Dye is back!
If you've vowed never to return to PB Dye as I had, you will want to reconsider. The current superintendent has done a great job continuing the resurrection of this course.
Sunday funday
The course was in great shape, never had a bad lie. Very playable but also challenging. The rough was cut back, pins up front most greens. The only hiccup was the group ahead were extremely slow so waits of 5 mins. each hole.
Thanks for the detailed reply. Me and my playing partner really did have a great time at your course. We'll definitely be back. Great layout, super nice condition, and awesome staff. See you soon!
