Very good condition
Fairways are maintained, greens roll true and very fast. Overall experience was very good
Excellent every day course
Poolesville is my go-to golf course when I want to play a 'no-fuss' round of golf -- it's easy to get on to, green fee is very reasonable, pace of play is usually very good, very friendly/accommodating staff and condition is very good.
Local Gem
Nice course well taken care of ... not a lot of water so great for beginner
This course is good for practice
Not many players at the course. It's good for practice for your weakness
My favorite muni
This is my preferred municipal course. It scores high for me in 4 key areas: 1) price/value ratio, 2) easy access, 3) great pace of play, 4) forgiving layout. Fairways are always in great shape, rough is not too high, and greens are healthy and consistent. Lots of friendly staff and golfers there. We've had groups invite us to play through, and when we do the same, groups are appreciative and keep things moving. One suggestion would be to provide more beverage cart service but that is probably dictated by demand. Last time there we booked through GolfNow but when we arrived to check in we were told it was "Member for a Day" day. We got a reduced rate, free lunch and range balls, and had a great time. You will enjoy Poolesville GC.
Improving conditions
I am impressed with the golf course. The fairways and tee boxes looks great than few years ago. They are well-maintained. The course is really long - forcing me to use long irons on second shots.
Great Layout
you are able to walk or ride in 4;30 with the pace of play.
Very nice course
I can see me coming back to this place to play. The only problem I had I called several times and left several message and no one return my call! I will come back.
Good Value
Played as a twosome on a Thursday afternoon. We had the course pretty much to ourselves since it had been cloudy in the morning after an overnight rain so people must have stayed away. Course was in good shape and the greens rolled true. Bunkers were a bit variable as to the amount of sand, but this is not uncommon on public courses. For the GolfNow hot prepaid price, definitely a good deal and we will play again.
beautiful course
The course is beautiful but the other facilities could use a facelift
Beautiful Day
Beautiful day...course was in it's usual good shape. Have played their several times, took a couple of first timers to the course and they liked it. One small hick up...no starter for our tee time.
Fast greens, good condition
Course was in great condition. Greens ran true but very fast. Sunday pin placements for a non-existent tournement.
Good public course
Overall, the course was in great shape. The greens, fairways and rough were all good. It's a relatively long course but definitely walkable. The pace of play was excellent. It was the second time I played there this year and I would definitely come back.
Like a large, really-fresh loaf of white bread.
The problem with this course is that it's just too basic. The course is practically flat. The greens were fairly large, not too flat and somewhat fast, a decent but not overwhelming challenge. Some sand of coursre but the real defense here is the rough. There's some water, but not much. Every hole with rare exception is straight away, between 350 and 450 yards for the par4s, tack on another 150 yards for the Par5s and subtract 150yds for the par-3s. The "holes" are like bowling-alleys. A few mild doglegs, a few shots over water...but overwhelmingly just like bowling. Tall pine trees every 25 yards on both sides of the fairway which is about 50 yards wide, a first cut of rough about 2" that will probably cost you a stroke per hole on average, and then once you get past the trees but still only on the outer fringes of the course (actually marked OB in places) at the beginning of thick woods there's some long grass and some unplayable lies. For adjacent fairways, usually the course is clear, go to the adjacent fairway, find your ball and just play back to your fairway. Not always, of course, but surprisingy often. The course is just too straightforward to be much of a course. Oh the time I played it the grass was excellent (even if there were a fair number of divots in the fairways where people just didn't even bother to replace their divots) and the weather was very nice but after 5 holes I was like "bleah". I got there too late to play 18 walking, but really I didn't feel that I missed much if anything by stopping after 9 holes.
No blind shots, at most a mild slope up or down off the tee...no tabletop-greens no real doglegs, there was one par3 over water on the front, the first hole has a mild uphill dogleg with the right edge leading to thick rough...but again, nothing really significant. You'd have to be crazy wild to hit into trouble on this course. If not then you could walk straight up the fairway to your tee-shot, just keep hitting and walking right up the fairway to the green.
It's good for getting out for 9 holes and walking around and practicing a bit but nothing of a challenge other than, of course, playing par for 9 or 18 holes. If you can hit the ball reasonably straight and consistently and you've got your yardage down and you can live with the occasional par then you will hit bogies and doubles consistently while hardly trying, and this course will bore you in short order. It's just a straightforward hitters' course. The best thing about it really was the drive out to it (it's practically to Leesburg), the skyline especially around sundown, and the fact that there were no houses in sight. It would be good for a beginner, though, on a slow day, as it will quickly teach the value of hitting consistent shots, keeping the ball in the fairway and staying out of the trees and traps on your approach-shots. Other than that there's no real risk-reward here.
So. For a beginning to average player this course may be a bit more than they can handle, a wild player will find it very frustrating, but an average to good player will find it at best practice and at worst boring. Quickly.
But condition-wise it's in great shape, though the "pro-shop" and lounge were a bit basic. Servicable.
A servicable course when you want to tune-up your game, maybe.
It could be much worse, it could be the course at Rock Creek Park downtown, and it is far better than that, but still it isn't much.
I mean, the course at Rock Creek Park downtown is much more of a challenge, but that course is nowhere near this good of a condition or this long.
It's in really-good condition, and it's not all that short either. But the course just has no joie de vivre. It has the soul of an accountant, all columns and figures.
Like a large, really-fresh loaf of white bread.
I hate the 8th
This was my first time at Poolsville and it was worth it. The staff is extremely friendly and the fairways are wide enough, even foe a beginner like me.
The only negative is the 8th, where you have to play aprox 170 over water :-(
My wife and me, both beginners, lost 5 balls into it.
Other than that, a nice course, even so, the holes are pretty long.
Poolesville
Nice course for the money, a little ways from town, rather long course , but overall a good course I would definitely recommend this course to all my friends
Wide Open Course
This was our first time playing this course. We had a 251 PM tee time, and although it was fairly busy, we were able to get out just about on time. There was a foursome in front of us, and occasionally we had to wait to hit our shots, but that's expected on a Saturday with great weather. When we got our cart, the starter was extremely friendly. The only real problem was that when we made the turn, we stopped in the pro shop to get beers and hot dogs, but they only had one hotdog left, which was very odd considering it was about 5 o clock - it's not like they were closing soon, and there were plenty of people on the course. It was great to get away from the business of DC to play this course, which was wide open, so often times errant tee shots could still be found and played, which was a good thing for those in my group. I would certainly play this again and recommend it to a friend.
MOCO jewel
I wish all of MOCO would bring their prices down to match here. This is the best value of any of the public courses
sunday funday at poolesville
poolesville is a nice course. its longer than most montgomery county courses. it has some tough holes and some easier ones, i had a good time, pace of play was good. its usually one of the least busy montgomery county courses. the only real beef i had, is that it was 60s, sunny, and clear, but for some reason it was cart path only, which i hate.
