My Local Favorite
Course is in excellent condition. Laytonsville GC is my favorite local moderately priced course.
Pace of play
Course is in good shape but pace of play is painfully slow. Need Marshall on course to speed things up
Greens offer challanges to read breaks. Good length for seniors.
The greens were a challenge to read for speed and amount of break. The course was in good shape for a public course. The hot deal allowed for a very reasonable rate.
Pleasantly surprised! Great layout!
I had the day off, so I went to golfnow.com to find a course that I had never played. Laytonsville was available and the rest is history. It is a great muni track that is pretty well maintained. The course had some good character with some interesting holes. The greens were deceptively fast, which is always a good thing.
A great course that I will play again in the future.
Great course to work on issues
On a windy afternoon after a recent rain, the course played true. I was late for my tee time, but the course staff was very accommodating.
Great County Course
I GOT MY FIRST HOLE IN ONE ON THE 1st Par 3 192 yrds!!!
(Of course then I tripled boggied.)
Great round for the money, esp on a Friday. I only played $15 and got in 18 holes before dark.
In great shape
The course is in great shape. The rough is a killer, you def. need to keep the ball in the fairway or you'll either end up paying the price or losing a ball. Round took longer then it should for a midweek tee time. Greens were in great shape and rolled true with some pace. Well kept and pretty course. I'll return.
This course is shorter from the white tees so the greens are reachable in two for our style of play
We are average golfers, this course benefits are style of golf.
Short but interesting course.
This is a place for short hitters to feel good about their games. Some of the par fours are driveable by bigger hitters, and most of the par fives are reachable in two by average hitters. The course uses a number of doglegs to keep it interesting on many of the shorter holes. The day I played, the greens were still showing the effects of spring drilling and sanding, meaning they were hard but not particularly fast. I found that putts were fairly hard to read for line, both because of the subtle way they are contoured and because the sanding makes grass effects difficult to see.
The course is moderately hilly and wooded, but nothing like Little Bennett. The rough is quite lush, but not overly punishing. I didn't detect any first cut/second cut areas. There are not a lot of hazards (except for sand) or OB, so errant shots aren't punished too severely.
I played as a single on a Thursday afternoon, and it was only at 12 that I needed to slow up for people in front of me. The discount price from Golf Now made it a real bargain, and I will play again - on a weekday. I have no desire to test the crowds on a weekend.
Excellent choice
By far one of the top 3 of the Montgomery county courses. Excellent value for the money
Warm up course
Short course that is good for new players and a good course to help get your game ready for summer.
Great Conditions! But Very Very Short Course
Had a Saturday morning tee time, course looked to have been backed up a bit but the marshall did a wonderful job keeping the pace of play at a little under 4.5 hours. Greens were in excellent shape along with the fairways and rough. Only gripe about this course was how short it was, every shot was pretty much a driver then wedge game, each hole was averaging around 320 yard.
laytonsville
Overall the course is in good condition. Of course with the seasonal aeratio, the greens are not that great at the moment. Don't think they aren't fast though. They run pretty fast still. I would recommend this course to the low to average player, which is what I am. I had fun there. The course is not very long but presents some moderate challenges.
Laytonsville
Pro shop was polite. Starter Tom was super friendly and helpful. Started on back nine. Tee boxes and fairways were in good shape for just coming out of winter. Greens were aerated and very sandy. Difficult to get an approach shot to stay on the greens, very fast. Sand traps were fresh and well groomed. Good mix of tight and open fairways. Seemed a little short, but that was fine by me. Beautiful surroundings, I recommend and will play again.
nice course, accommodating staff, unfortunately aerated greens...
great course layout. fairways and tee boxes were in good shape but, i guess because its springtime, the greens had just been aerated and they were bumpy. i had an emergency call and was delayed 10 minutes and the staff was great and accommodated us into a later tee time. very good for the $ even on the weekend!
Typical Muni
After hearing some positive reviews about this place, my friend and I decided to give it a try. What a mistake! The pace of play was terrible. The starter has my roommate and myself, a twosome, play between a few foursomes. The greens had been recently aerated, but there was no discount nor notification from the clubhouse. I've played at courses that are in much better shape that charge a rate that is not much more than what this course charged. Overall, a disappointing experience.
Excellent shape for the winter
Well maintained fairways despite evidence that the local golfers were horribly negligent about replacing divots. Although a bit short, the course demands considerable judgement in club selection especially if the rural ridges are catching a strong breeze.Greens were fast, well kept and in decent shape for February. Good price with promotion.
no Starter onsite during peak hour
No Starter onsite to resolve dispute who should be allowed to tee off first!
Great Course! Awesome staff! A must play in MD
One of the best courses and always a high recommendation to friends
