Fairways in great shape but greens were aerated and sanded. Some bunkers had little or no sand. Rough was a little high, difficult finding ball.
Poorly conditioned
Overall lack of maintenance apparent. Tee boxes and greens weed ridden. Fairways poorly cut. No sand in bunkers. A municipal course with a minimal budget. Experience does not make you want to return, even for $49 prime time on weekend. Prefer to pay more for well maintained track. This course must be costly to City of Rockville.
Good for the money
Good value. Greens are a little slow, but overall not a bad layout. Would definitely play again.
Too slow
6 hour round and they were running 20 min begind by 10am
Nice course, poor mangement
Well laid out course that keeps you on your toes. It appeared like everyone working was on their first day. Pro shop attendant couldn't figure out his ticket system, starter didn't know who was checked in or not, then he tried to put a foursome in front of my threesome at the turn, only the foursome were still waiting on 2 members....grill ran out of hotdogs..had to get a so so club sandwich. Could use a course marshal to keep the pace of play up and make sure folks are hitting into each other around bends.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for the feedback. The club did have a lot of new staff to begin the year! Since this visit, the staff has been trained up, and we always have plenty of hot dogs! Thank you again for the feedback and hope to see you out here again soon!
Very good value for the money
Somewhat challenging, especially for a beginner like myself.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for the kind review! Looking forward to seeing you back here soon!
poor sigth to look at!
poor course condition, do not know if they have a ground keeper
sad because the course look interesting and challenging
Dear golfer,
Thank you for your feedback and sorry course conditions were not up to par. Winter is tough on golf courses, but we are optimistic when it warms and the grass starts to grow conditions will greatly improve! We hope to see you back at Redgate soon!

Fall golf
Expect to spend time looking for your ball because the leaves are everywhere.
I don't know who is "blowing the leaves off", but there is no evidence of that happening, and hasn't happened all fall!!!!! I have lost 4 to 6 balls in the past 2 weeks just hitting it 10 ft. off the fairways. Not a good job. Reason: there is NO staff there that actually "blows" leaves off the course--hasn't happened since 2014-15. Once in a "blue moon" the mower comes by and cuts some leaves up, but still lose balls in that.
Since the rough hasn't been cut to the height of any other course in the DC area, it's very easy to lose balls in the rough even with NO leaves there.
Play somewhere where they really take care of the course. RedGate isn't one of those courses, and hasn't been ever since Billy Casper Golf took over management--and lease of the course from the City of Rockville--in 2012.
If you do play RedGate, make sure you bring a dozen golf balls with you!!
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for recently playing RedGate and pleased to see you had a good time. The staff is out in full force blowing those barn leaves! Hope to see you back soon.
Regards,
RedGate Team
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share you feedback and we hope to see you back out soon! Regards, RedGate General Manager
Reasonable course at a fair price
Course was in good shape, and with the GolfNow Hot Deal a good deal on a Sunday afternoon. With the exception of 4th and 16th holes a generally nice layout.
Great value, fun course
Not the greatest condition, however great value. Design of the course is definitely interesting and fun to play.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We hope to see you back on the links again soon. Regards, RedGate Team
Redgate
It was in good shape. There are some holes that could be cut down a little in the rough, but, if you keep it in the fairway, no problems.
We appreciate your patronage and feedback golfer.
GM
"cut down a little in the rough"? How about cutting it down to about 1-2 inch high, like most other courses in the DC area. Yes, keep it in the fairway, because you can at least find the ball there, unlike in the rough.
Oh yes, the fairways are about 1/2 inch high, so you rarely, if ever, have a lie in the fairway where the ball sits up, unlike most of the courses in the DC area.
You forgot to mention that most all of the greens have an abundance of crabgrass on the entire surface, making putting a real guessing game. Been that way since June, and getting worse.
Play one of the County courses where the conditions are far superior to Redgate, and where the course grounds crews keep those courses in very good to excellent condition, so you know you are playing at a golf course and not at a 'cow pasture'.
Nive weekend out
Course need more "Pro Tips" on some of the hole where there are unsuspecting hazard from the tee box.
Thank you for your feedback golfer. Some of our signs have been run over. I'll get the missing signs replaced.
thank you for your business.

A great alternative to county courses
I've only played 9 at Redgate and finally go the full 18 in! The back 9 has more challenges than the front (#16 in particular) but still is a very pleasant round. The greens are expansive; the course challenges are from trees, water and hills.
Staff was very friendly. Location is prime - central Rockville is an easy commute, and the rate was better than the MCG courses.
Did not order food in the clubhouse, but the deck with awning sure looked nice...
Golfer, thank you for your feedback and we appreciate your business. We hope to see you out on the links of RedGate again soon.

Yes, but...
My son and I play Redgate twice a year. We like it, don't love it. I think it's fine and good value; he's a good golfer and thinks some holes are just dumb. Like 4: layup the drive, layup again to the ridge, then hit straight down to green. And 16 is just silly--skinny drive with 3 wood; another 3 wood to big hill; then hit straight up to green.
Problem yesterday was punched teeboxes. They warned us but they should have done two things: set up tee markers so you could actually see them; and taken off 10 bucks a round. Courses should do that more often: hey, sorry, we're working today but we're taking a few bucks off your round.
Btw, great pace of play yesterday: two of us in cart, less than 3.5 hours.
Golfer,
We appreciate your feedback and business. Agreed, some of our holes have an interesting character. Thirty five years ago, when the equipment did not allow the ball to travel so far, it would have been more appropriate. We hope to see you soon.
Thanks!
GM
Try playing on a weekend and your time of 3.5 hours will increase by an hour. Extremely slow on weekends and there is rarely a Marshall working to get slow groups moving faster.

I had a great time at RedGate
Dear Golfer,
Thank you so much for playing our golf course and furnishing your feedback. Let's hope for an Indian Summer!
GM
You must not have played RedGate if you think Course Conditions are "Excellent". Fairways have long grass in many places; rough is still high so your ball sinks to the bottom and one usually has a hard time even finding the ball much less hit it out 50 yards to get back to the fairway; the greens are very slow and bumpy; and, worst of all, most all the bunkers have just dirt in them--no sand-- and the fairway grass bunkers are just terrible. Redgate is the worst conditioned course in the DC area by far!!
redgate
nice course
no starter
no rangers
Hi Golfer,
Thank you for your feedback. We have rangers on days where the volume of play moderate to high. There have been several days (not weekends or holidays) where the tee sheet was light due to rain and we called the ranger out. I suspect you might have played us on one of those days. Thank you for your business!
Billy
Slowest round of my life - didn't finish
We were due to tee off at 10:36 a.m. They were backed up so we teed off about 10:55. Completed front nine by 2:00. Waited for every single drive, sometimes almost 10 minutes. Marshall was useless. Waited for most second shots, too. Group ahead also waiting. Joined up with group behind to make a 5. Still waited. Gave up at 4:15 after 16 holes. Locals tell us this is no unusual for this course. Sad, because it is a decent layout.
Good Morning Golfer, thank you for your feedback. I was sorry to hear of the slow round you experienced here at RedGate. The catalyst for some of our slow play issues has been the rough height. We have been working extremely hard to control the rough height but have been challenged with record rain fall.
I too experienced the same thing on June 18th. SLOW is the norm on weekends, especially Saturdays--5+ hr. rounds and no one out there to keep traffic moving; and that's due to the course operators not caring since they already have your money!!!! That and tee times run late because RedGate cannot handle 8 min. tee times which backs everything up within the first couple of hours of play on the weekends.
This has been the case for the past 4 years, ever since Billy Casper Golf took over managing the course from the City of Rockville which still owns the course.
The slow play and bunkers with dirt and rocks instead of sand in 99% of the bunkers is the norm at this course. Go play elsewhere and you will have a more enjoyable time.
Dear Golfer,
Thank you for the feedback. We understand the challenges of pace of play, and we continue to work to improve pace of play and making sure our first tee is running on time. I am sorry that you had a slow experience, and we hope you will give us another try soon and see the improvements we have made!
