Perfect Hot Summer Golf
Perhaps the extreme hot weather was keeping the crowds down but an extra enjoyable experience playing CBGC. Course conditions were on par with a private course all tee boxes ,fairways, greens and traps were excellent. Layout is fair and challenge is there right in front of you. We played 18 in under 4hrs on a Friday afternoon. Cannot say enough about the accommodating staff all around. I assume that on another weekend the pace of play would not be so private like but will return for an encore as this course is deserving of your greens fees.
DO NOT HAVE YOUR OUTING HERE
Our group had an outing at this course yesterday, 10/13/21. There was an error made by the staff regarding what we were to have for lunch. We were told pulled pork, chicken, potato salad, and baked beans. We were ham and tortellini which was clearly left over from wedding the prior weekend. When we complained, we were told by the golf pro that he would serve us something else to our liking. However, the owner or head staff member, came down and told us we would eat what we were served. He was extremely condescending, rude, and most of all unprofessional. We had 7 groups and although we had a great time on the course, none of us will ever go back. Apparently., that doesn't matter to the owner, because he said, exactly, "that's fine, don't come back, we do y need your money." Do not have your outings here if you are looking for professional, courteous treatment from the staff.
Staff is Great and Course is Great
Chesapeake Bay Rising Sun staff is very helpful in and out of official lessons. Andrew Barbin Sr and Andrew Barbin Jr will assist you outside of official lessons on a regular basis. The reason is their interest in golf instruction is so high it carries over to helping all the customers they know. They have direct connections with Adam Bazellgette (on youtube) and Dr. Neil out of Florida who work with pros on the PGA tour. You get a high level instruction as a result of this and get to interface with these other instructors once year. It is Fantastic. The golf course is in great shape. You have access to two Trackman golf simulators to observe your swing and to play simulated courses especially during winter months or inclement weather. Great Golf leagues both summer and winter (simulator golf). I can't speak to the wedding capabilities but they have a room to conduct weddings. And a general kitchen will serve general food (hamburgers, hotdogs, cheesesteaks, and etc plus beer, wine, and soda (soft drinks). And will provide catered food for booked outing events if necessary. Had an Awesome Day
It’s been about a month since I have played golf, and CBGC was my first choice. Man, was I impressed! The course is in phenomenal shape, as I always have remembered. The greens and great value is what always makes me come back. I noticed the club owners purchased brand new carts, and they are extremely clean and quiet. I also noticed that they have been putting in work in their clubhouse. With a brand new set up of Trackman simulators and brand new grille room, it felt like a top tier private club when I entered. Just to make the day even better, the round was less than 4 hours which made it even more enjoyable. 10/10 recommend!
Great Course, don't miss out
Wow what fantastic shape the course is in. No better way to spend the day then at Chesapeake Bay. Fast rolling greens and beautiful fairways and they just got in all new carts. Can't wait till the winter leagues start up. Got some fantastic simulators they just finished up. Looking forward to playing golf indoors when it's cold watching some football drinking some beer and having some great wings. And we'll still do the same outdoors if weather permits. Put Chesapeake Bay on your must playlist now.
Disappointed
I grew up on this course; and it was never the most difficult or complex, but always in GREAT shape. This course was known for its greens being soft and receptive and yet smooth and quick. I recently moved back into the area and played it today and it was a disgrace. They are losing an entire 9 worth of greens, the tee boxes and fringe are covered with Crab Grass. This course looks NOTHING like it did 20 years ago, not even 10 years ago and clearly the owners are living off of its reputation and are unwilling to put any money back into the course. It was a sad experience...
Been A Long Time I've Played This Course...
I haven't played Chesapeake Bay since it was Chantilly, which is a very long time ago. Honestly, I couldn't remember many of the holes so took a couple of minutes to figure out each hole. The pros: the greens were running pretty true, and most had some subtle breaks; and there were a fair amount of large trees for shading on a hot day. The cons: the fairways were long and a lot of crabgrass throughout; the rough was thick but really inconsistent with bare spots behind thick clumps of grass which was a challenge to advance the ball; most bunkers were thick dirt and holding a lot of water (although, in fairness to the club, they had T-storms the night before); and balls were flying all over the place from adjacent fairways...this is an older course with side-by-side holes and poor players--lots of errant shots from other holes almost hitting us twice. I was pretty underwhelmed frankly, and this course was a $45-$50 course at best. It's well over an hour for me, and it will be a while before I drive up again. The staff was very nice and friendly, but the course was just not manicured like I thought it would be. The one other thing that I really didn't like...every pond on the course had an algae skim on the top, which was disgusting. It was just ugly. Not a bad layout but the conditions are not anywhere near other courses I've played, unfortunately.
Average
Don’t know why course is so highly rated. Although greens in fantastic condition, rest of course is average. Average layout with only a few interesting holes. A few ponds in play and many forced carries off the tee, otherwise flat, long, and tree-lined fairways. Poor condition golf carts (need new ones), irons-only range. Poor COVID practices (no touchless payment and restaurant allows overcrowded indoors room with tables not socially distanced). Not a good value. Will not return- much better courses around.
Fantastic greens on our day
Greens were like carpets, rolling true with very get ball marks unattended.
Challenging doglegs and good variety of tee length.
Late afternoon round
Had a free afternoon, walked in and was on the course in a few minutes. Great staff very friendly. Course in great shape for this late in the season, greens were in great shape.
Highly recommend
My favorite golf course to play!
Chesapeake Bay Golf Club at Rising Sun is my favorite golf course to play in the area! The greens are in incredible shape, the fairways are well manicured, and the rough, tees, and bunkers are in great condition. The course is so fun and enjoyable for players of any skill level. Besides great conditions and great golf, the food at Chesapeake Bay GC is so good. I had both breakfast and lunch here. The pancakes are great and the chicken salad sandwich was one of the best I’ve ever had! I could definitely eat the food at Chesapeake Bay every single day! The clubhouse and pavilion have recently gone through renovations and have transformed completely! With theses changes, this course is now an awesome place to play golf, eat, have weddings/events, and just hangout! I highly recommend this course! Beautiful aesthetics!

comfortable course
This was a nice comfortable course to play. It was mostly open. There were enough trees to make it interesting if you hit offline but not a total tree lined venue. Course was in good shape considering all the local rain. I recommend this as a fun comfortable course to play. We played as a two some cart path only in less than three hours and we weren't pushing it.
Nice setup
Final day of trip and played here before departing the next day. The course overall has some challenging holes, and it was in good shape. The pace was good and you had to pay attention to where your ball ends up, as the holes are close enough that other shots may be in your fairway.
For the Mrs, she did have a first... an island tee box for her one particular hole.
Open and challenging
Excellent staff. Except for a few holes (blind tee shots), the course is right in front of you. All greens were true (deceptively fast). Highly recommend this course. Could hear the race way a little distance away but not to the point of being annoying. Minor shortcomings are the range, gas carts (could use electric), and some of the bunkers. Range is irons only. Some of the bunkers have a thin layer of dirt which will not allow you to use the bounce on your sand wedge correctly. Starter acknowledged lack of sand in the bunkers. Rough is not bad.
Slow rainy morning= wide open course. Finished a solo round in 2 hours and decided to replay another 18. Staff is always curtious and friendly, nice course with a laid back relaxed atmosphere .
Great test of golf
I'm not sure what the TexanPa lady is talking about, but this course is a true test of golf. The drag racing noise can be faintly heard in the distance, but it is MILES away, and has nothing to do with course conditions at this challenging course. The design and condition are much better than most "traditional" courses, with some gorgeous holes, elevation changes, shot-shaping requirements, serious challenges, and outstanding greens. I play many courses in Md, Va, and Pa, and other than Penn National, this course has perhaps the best greens of any regional (public) golf course. The greens are excellent, but the rest of the course is also very well maintained. The Superintendant and grounds staff obviously know what they are doing. The other staff members are very friendly, professional, and accommodating. One fairway and one bunker were in need of some attention, but otherwise this course is in great shape, and is a very fair but challenging test of golf. The driving range is irons only, and maxes out at about 210 yards, which is a small detraction, but otherwise, I definitely recommend the Chesapeake Rising Sun course.
Favorite Course
Chesapeake Bay Golf Club at Rising Sun is in as good of condition as a course can get, its extremely well maintained. The greens are quick and the rolling fairways are in pristine condition .The layout is perfect for all player types. The environment is family friendly and the staff was very professional. The value was great and the price was right. On top of it all the burgers in the Players Grille were excellent. I also played 9 holes of footgolf (after my round of real golf) and i will definitely come back to play all of the 18 holes of footgolf, it was awesome. I would recommend this course to everyone. It is one of my all time favorite courses, a must play!
NOISY course
I would never play this course again...(without earplugs). It's a decent course, but is so close to the Cecil County Racetrack you are constantly attacked with the sound of high revving engines. If not for the amazing staff, I would give this course an overall of 2 instead of 3. They were friendly & really welcoming. If you play Chesapeake GC in North East, MD and expect this one to be as nice - be ready to get disappointed. If you're looking for a pretty easy, cheap (I paid $20) family friendly course. This is it.

I come and play here every year driving down from the Philly area.. Chesapeake Rising Run has very nice greens and many real good golf holes.. You wont find discounts on Golfnow.com for this course as its associated with another discount service but dont let it stop you from coming here.. Its a great value for sure.
