Potomac Ridge - Meadows Course
About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
There are 27 holes of championship golf available at Potomac Ridge. With a location that is easily accessible from Alexandria, DC, Annapolis and Prince George's and Charles Counties, the course is one of southern Maryland's most popular golf destinations. It's also just a few minutes from National Harbor. The holes are divided into the Hollow, Meadow, and Ridge nines. The Hollow and Meadow Courses were the original 18 holes from when it first opened as Southview Golf Course in 1996. The two nines were designed by Tom Clark while the Ridge nine, added in 2003, was designed by Tom Walker. The Meadows nine is the shortest of the three and it's player friendly enough for players of all skill levels. There are still some challenges in store though in the form of subtle but tricky elevation changes and stands of tall trees.

Potomac Ridge
The course itself is ok for the end of Winter season, it was the attitude of the staff. My partner whom I just met there and was paired with me was so dissapointed on how he was treated by the staff. I have heard similar stories like that I knew for a fact that the Golf Pro, several grounds keeper as well as the pro-staff left the golf course and joined the other neighboring course due to the reputation. I have had a few problems with the staff but I was just there for the driving range. I would never play that course not unless I get them cheap at Golfnow and there is no other courses that much cheaper but if it is just a few dollars, I would drive 15 miles and go elsewhere.
good course, unfriendly staff
Would have rated the course higher but its still early in the season and the grounds aren't in the greatest shape. The greens where the best part of the course. The proshop staff was the worst part. Speaking with other players that I met while on the course, they all seem to agree with me.
Course in good shape for time if year
Played course two weeks after major snow. Course was wet but not unplayable. Greens were in pretty good condition . Cart path only but that was reasonable due to the wet conditions .
I use to feel that I was appreciated as a on line customer.
The Potomac Ridge course staff, seems to have a slightly different attitude towards GolfNow customers. I am not sure how to express or discribe it other than to say it's not pleasent. This weekend when the group of us (who did not no eachother) started our round all had the same feeling about the customer service at check-in "not very welcome attitude by the person at the counter". And the only thing that we had in common is that we booked our round on line. WOW!!! It's winter golf if you don't like what we paid to play on your course don't advertive on GolfNow.......PS I thought I liked this course but now. I guess I will take my business somewhere else.
Customer Service lacking.
Poor customer courtesy at the counter. Spend extensive time waiting for clerk to finish personal call. Course is very good for January. Sand traps totally out of commission. No food services available.
Not customer friendly!
Having played this course many times last season and several times this season, I have consistently found management to be generally the worst staff, I have encountered, when it comes to dealing with "customers". The attitude is one of we really don't care if you play or not. I have experienced this rude non professional behavior first hand, and have talked to other golfers who have experienced the same issues I have observed. I have met other golfers at Potomac Potomac, strangers, who have expressed these same sentiments, and golfers at other courses who have the same experience. It appears to me that golfers who use Golfnow are particularly treated in an unprofessional manner, but I have talked to others who scheduled tee times with the course and experienced the same issues. I am only one person, but I will not play there again, and would not recommend anyone I know or don't know to play there.
Great Experience Great Staff
I've played this course a number of times and each time I've had a great experience. The course is always in pretty good shape and the staff is really good too.
Not what it used to be
This place has gone downhill over the years. Fairways are brown and thin in many areas. Greens were fine. Tee boxes were terrible. Grounds were unkempt. Burgers were decent. I got a GN deal for $32 so I don't feel ripped but it's not the calibre course it was when it was run by Atlantic golf.
Not impressed....
This course is a far cry from what it used to be. The fairways were all brown / dead. The greens were in good shape, which made the course playable...
Customer service at the course was not impressive either. Our group had an emergency come up and was unable to golf. We did book a Hot Deal which is non-refundable, so I asked the staff to work with us. The course was empty so I asked if could just golf two rounds so I wasn't throwing away money (from the other player's reservation). They were not flexible with our problem and I ended up eating $30.
I do not see myself coming back to this course again, which is a shame.....
27 holes good topography
Not bad shape considering the harsh winter. Lot of trash that needs to be picked up.
Good Course
Good course, well maintained. It started to rain on the back nine and we had to finish in the rain. The course is challenging enough!
It takes more than a golf course to keep me coming back....
First off let me say that I only paid 17 dollars with a hot deal to play. So why complain? Here is why. There are rules and then there are RULES. Potomac Ridge does not care AT ALL about customer service. Its the coldest, stiffest staff off any course in the area ive played. And ive play them all. I had a 1154 tee time and got there at 1100 on a cold November day with virtually an empty golf course. They have 27 holes by the way, 3 different 9s. The man who checked me in told me I needed to wait and hour for my ACTUAL tee time. Was he right? Technically. Customer service? Heck no. They have a very condescending, almost well, I wont go there. Then despite the course being empty, I was made to pair up, in the same cart with another guy. Neither of us wanted this, but as customary with P Ridge they didnt care. Play 18 wholes and saw 6 people yet I couldn't play with my own cart or tee off 50mins early. Your call.....I wont be back.
Not the best course or value around DC Metro
I'm an avid local golfer with an 11 handicap (MSGA). I played this course for the first time this past Sunday. Even though I used my free round that I earned through Golfnow, I felt I could have better used it at another course. Customer service was lacking and my group was not informed of the course closing at 4:30. Granted that it gets dark around 5:15 or so these days, we were abruptly escorted off the course on hole 5 of Meadows without any notice around 4;30. When we inquired as to the reason, the course employee just told us that he told everyone (or at least believed he should have at check-in). Even though we realistically would not have completed our round, we would have made different choices and played at a different pace if we were aware of this early closing time when we teed off at 12:48. As far as the course conditions and difficulty is concerned, I think the course has potential but could be in much better condition. The fairways all appeared to be dead and the rough was unusually long and sporadically matted down (even within the usual "first cut" areas). With the blustery winds that were whipping around all day, it was a tough day to post a low score. Bottom line: Unless the course conditions are somehow nicer in the spring or summer seasons, I would not recommend this course to golfers that enjoy playing on well-maintained course at a reasonable price.
Potomac Ridge Golf Course
Well maintained course and conveniently located. Course is challenging, but not overly difficult. Would recommend this course to friends.
Great Course, Meadows and Ridge are two best nines
I've played here three times over the past couple months. The hollow was extremely challenging and tight so I wouldn't recommend playing that nine if you can help it. The ridge is my favorite, especially the 7th-9th holes which are a great way to finish. The meadows is very enjoyable and is probably the most scenic of the three. The range is very reasonably priced ($7 for unlimited), so Potomac ridge is one of my favorite places to practice. Unfortunately the grill area has been closed two of the three times I've been there. I will definitely be back.
There are 3 nine hole courses
We enjoy the complexity of the course and all of the staff are great
I will be back to Potomac Ridge
Really enjoy playing this course. It is challenging yet fair. One of the best kept secrets in the DC metro area. The course is in great shape and playing in the fall is a real treat.
Course was overall a 9 out of 10 but staff (tall gentleman) behind the counter was so rudeounter was very displeass
I really think it was because we had booked through golfnow that we were being discriminated against; bssically stated if ee paid the difference, we could do this and that... Very unfortunate
