Perfect Public Golf Course
I began playing Northwest about 8 years ago and have seen many steady improvements over the years, such that it is now in perfect shape. The groundskeepers are constantly checking the greens and fairways and the grass is well taken care of. Bunkers now have real sand and greens run extremely well. I highly recommend this course, not only for the interesting and challenging layout, but because of it's good quality.
Great course
Always in good shape and fun to play! A very challenging course that will test your skills no matter what your handicap. The greens are always firm and fast.
slow slow slow
Just a slow course. A lot of older people. Groups w their little umbrellas. Slow. And it seems as if the marital could careless about slow play. Almost a 5 hour round yesterday. Unacceptable.
Almost excellent....ruined by slow play and hackers
As a newcomer to these parts from the UK I'm still getting to know the ropes and how to play good golf courses for non extortionate rates in this area. Golf in and around Dc is ridiculously priced if you want to play in the morning or early afternoon, period. However you can get some good deals if you can play at the right times and I thought I was onto a very good thing when I discovered North West. This is a very good course and it's tough and long, a challenge for a low single figure golfer like myself. However the last two times I've played I haven't been able to complete my round as the place has been full of weekend hackers who are contributing to a 4.5 hour + round of golf (and that's with buggies!) The other thing that makes teeing off in the mid afternoon such a problem here is that they start groups at the 10th in the early afternoon and so by the time you get to the back nine it's backed up even more ( I also heard the starter saying to groups that they could carry on playing after their 18, causing even more congestion). I understand the place needs to make money but filling every available spot with very slow playing golfers really spoils this very good golf experience.
Excellent, as always!
Nice layout and well-maintained. Probably one of my favorite courses to play in the DC area. The restaurant is also pretty good and the lady running it super nice and accommodating!
Course is is good shape.
Greens are quick! Course was in good shape.
Played NW Park to get ready for a tournament round the following day.
A Treat
Started off in the rain. Rain stopped, sun came out, no wind - Steady twosome in front of us walked briskly. Just a delight. Greens were fast and well maintained. Course was in very good shape considering the date. Just wonderful.
Northwest Park
I enjoy the length of Northwest. It is challenging with the rough but not a lot of trees get in the way. It plays fairly fast with long holes and hills. It is also nice that it has a separate 9 holes that is not just par 3s but has several regulation par 4s.
The Greens are fast and hard
Excluding the greens the course is in fantastic shape. There are two distinct cuts of rough and with the course length it makes it a real challenge. The course is open, so you aren't totally penalized for an off-line tee shot. The greens are lighting fast and they had some pen positions that were bordering on questionable. You were forced to aim for the large parts of greens, but then left with 60 foot double breakers. All in all I loved it, and can't wait to get back.
Great value!!!
Coming here from Florida, I can say that this course was on par with many of the private and semi-private courses that I have had the pleasure of playing. It was in great shape and the greens will embarrass you if you do not have control over your speed.
Angulo foursome
The greens had been aerated making putting difficult .
On the seventh hole we were asked to pick up the pace even though we were still with in a 2 hr 10 minute pace for the front nine.
Nice muni
Course is fun and long. Staff was friendly and helpfull. The layout is a bit 'old school' meaning mostly straight holes with few fairway bunkers and some free side bunkers. Water really doesn't come into play.
The Bethpage Black of The Mid-Atlantic
At over 7400 from the black tees, Northwest has all you can ask for when it comes to length. Nice layout and always in great condition. The greens usually run pretty quick here. It's a very fair test with some very long and difficult par 3's and 4's. The par 5's are the more forgiving holes here. Bring in a quality designer to tweak it a bit and you can have a tour event here, no problem. Almost a five hour round yesterday because of an amazingly slow group in front of us....usually it's a 4:15 - 4:30 round.
Very enjoyable course
Always is fun to play, long but not too difficult. Abount the only complaint is the yardage markers are difficult to find.
Long track from the tips!
Great challenging course, longest public in Montgomery County. When the conditions are good, and they usually are, it plays tough but fun!
nice course and easy to get to
pace of play was ok, group ahead was obviously playing blue when should have been playing white tees, guess they do not watch Golf Channel.
Every hole a new look. Test your whole game and still have fun.
The landscape of Northwest will charm you whatever your golf game. Woodlands and a beautiful creek make you glad to be out there. Every hole offers a different test. The staff are friendly, the cafe has great burgers, and the marshals keep groups moving in a friendly way. Best of Montgomery County's fine county public golf courses.
The course lends to my game. Very wide open, since I tend to spray the ball all over.
It appeared that some tee boxes had been resodded, which is a good thing if they were in need. Others had been arriated. Overall the course was in good condition and usually always is in great shape.
aerated greens were a surprise
overall a very long course from the blue tees make it a challenge for the good player
conditions are fair
good course
i liked playing here, could have been better if they hadnt just aerated the greens
