About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2019.
Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Amherst is one of western Massachusetts' premier courses. It plays across a gently rolling landscape accented with mature tree that offers an especially scenic round in the fall thanks to the changing colors of the foliage. The course has some subtle contours but it is still pleasantly walkable and offers just enough of a challenge to appeal to low and high handicappers alike. The layout consists of an interesting variety of holes including some that are long, a few doglegs, and also some birdie opportunities. The golf course finishes with one of the area's most memorable holes. This long par 4 calls for an accurate tee shot in order to avoid the river on the left and the rough on the right. The challenges don't end there either with a second shot to a wide, elevated green protected by large, deep bunkers.

A little scruffy
A perfectly pleasant course for beginner to intermediate golfers. No pressure to be great and fast by hot shot pro types. The GolfNow price was amazing for 18 holes and cart.
Long Course
For a course that looks like it is going out of business after this year, it was in pretty good condition. The greens were a little slow but held good on approach shots. Fairways on many holes were wet. Unfortunately, the 19th hole was closed. We did enjoy the morning on the course!
Incredible value for money
Course has a very complicated layout and no maps makes it even more confusing. Greens fairways and rough are well maintained for a public course. Bunkers leave a lot to be desired, hard as stone sand and grass growing through. However for a course that is closing and $29 for 18 holes with a cart, I can not really complain. Hole design is nice and challenging but not too much for a beginner or intermediate player.
Enjoyed.. BUT
GREENS & fairways NICE
Rough NEEDS SOME attention
Sandtraps poor .. look untouched with grass growing through many of them.
Great Value and Amazing Service
Yesterday was my second time golfing at Hickory Ridge. It was a hot day but nonetheless I was golfing so couldn’t complain. I had to go to the pro shop two or three times during my round to buy drinks and grab a score card. Each time Rick and Evan were extremely helpful In answering my questions and catering to our groups needs. They operated with a level of professionalism not found at even the most expensive courses in the area. The course was dry in a few spots but for the money and the way they treat their guests this is a must try destination in Western Massachusetts!
Good Value
Our foursome's pace of play was excellent but we had to let several single and double players behind us through. This slowed our pace of play. They should combine these into foursomes!
Sadly the next solar farm
Nice challenging course with large greens. I figured something was up with the pricing $29 with cart all week long. The course will be full of solar panels soon apparently. I guess there is hope for a buyer to keep it a 9 hole course. Can golfers get paid reparations?
Fun to Play at Bargain Price
This Donald Ross design is still in good shape and a challenge for the average golfer.
