tale of two courses
First time playing course. Like reviews say. Front and back are like playing two different courses. The back has excellent fairways, but you have to hit them. Few holes you have thinking about what club you should be using. I think next time will even be better because I will understand layout.
Poor service from the start
Went to check in at the Pro shop should be called the Unprofessional Shop . The staff or owner since he was stuffing the green fees in his pocket was very rude to us .my friend made a joke about the course being in Belchertown kiddingly. The owner or staff went off on him asking does he think he’s “special” my friend apologized telling him it was only a joke . The owner said I’m going to watch you tee off and laugh at you. What a. way to make you feel unwelcome if we hadn’t already paid we would have left and played elsewhere. We will never go back after being treated so rudely it was completely unacceptable!
challenging but a lot of fun.
This is the second time the traveling wish the group has played Mill Valley we haven't been there in a couple years this course is very challenging but it is coming along great and it is really fun. you can see the improvements that are being made and why this is going to be a great course in a year or two. but don't wait you'll see the changes that are so obvious and you'll even appreciate it more when everything is finished. the Pro Shop couldn't have been more helpful and made sure that all 24 golfers had a good time.
excellent condition
credit cards are accepted. course is in great shape, very green and most of the courses around me are burned up due to the lack of rain this summer. interesting track and they are currently building a new hole, not sure which one it will replace.
Utter terribleness
The staff were rude, inattentive and disingenuous. They cursed out me and my friends, they are suspicious of anyone under the age of 50 and they lack common courtesy. Awful upkeep, awful manners and terrible service. They want it to be an over 50 community and they will find any reason to be spiteful. I’m a member there and they treated me awful. And the course is in utter disarray. Makes me wonder where my membership money is going.
Take your $ elsewhere
Very bad experience overall at Mill valley, staff in the pro room was not friendly or welcoming, failed to mention there were greens under repair and you would be putting from the fairway (2 closed on front nine, who knows how many on back). Group infront was extremely slow and people are not willing to let you play through, became extremely windy and cold during our round and we had purchased 18 with a cart. 41$ and after the first 9 went into the shop seeking a credit for the other 9 and come back another day to finish are round. Apparently “they don’t make money” on rain checks and we’re refusing to give any sort of refund. Be warned and there are plenty of other courses in western mass area who offer credits to finish your round including cherry hill, Northampton cc , east mountain etc. would definetly not recommend going to this course. Which is a shame because I would of came back as my friend is a member there (no idea why)...
Second Times a Charm!!!
Wow!! Had not played this course in I'm guessing 3 or 4 years and trust me I never thought I'd be back...What an improvement! Somebody dumped some money into this place! Greens were perfect. Fairways trimmed nicely. The course was fairly busy for a Monday but they were alternating people off the front and back nine which seemed to work perfectly. Ran into the "owner" who seemed pretty harmless to me. Saw him washing down carts which earned him instant respect in my book. That's the type of owner you want. Hands on. I felt like mentioning but didn't the fact that there didn't seem to be a dress code. I'd say about half the patrons looked good the other half looked like Alaskan bush people. Granted that doesn't effect my play at all but could certainly deter me from getting a membership. The difference between the word Links and Club must have something to do with dress code. All in all 4.5 out of 5 stars. This course is certainly on its way!!
Amazing Value!
Golfed here again for the fourth time this year. The conditions were great! It's like night and day from a few years ago. The owner has remained true to his word. Decided on the membership option. It was only $445 to join for the rest of 2017 and all of 2018!! WOW. Happy to be part of the club!
Beautiful course, Beautiful prices
Cant believe I'm the first person to write a review in almost 4 years!!! Anyway. I've golfed here 3 times this year so far. Headed there again next Wed. Love this place!! Both Challenging and fun. Will not find another layout like this anywhere. They could easily justify charging much more but they want to keep the sport affordable while simultaneously raising their own bar. If your up for a challenge give this place a try! Youll be glad you did!
Once was enough
Greens were in very good shape and rolling very well; best part of this golf course. Staff was very friendly. Only paid $25 for a weekend morning tee time with a cart. Truth is, it wasn't even worth the $25.
The course is (hate to use the words) a cow pasture. Tee boxes and many fairways were dry, cracked, and not maintained.
Mill Valley claims to be the toughest course in WMass, and that's probably true.
Fairways are tree-lined and narrow. On many slight fairway misses, the contour will take your ball to the woods.
Several tee shots are to a 90 degree dogleg, requiring a well placed iron shot. To me, not too interesting.
Par 5's requiring an iron shot from the tee; even an iron for the 2nd. To me, not too interesting.
Many of the greens are severely sloped. I was below the hole; putting uphill about 25 feet; and once the ball stopped near the hole; it rolled back to me. Would we call that difficult? ... unfair? ... dumb?
#8 is the crown jewel; a 430+ yard par 4, twisting left a couple times. Unless you are a PGA tour player, there is no chance to get to this green in 2; might take 3; or even 4. Difficult? Unfair? Dumb?
Apologize for the negativity, but just trying to provide ample feedback for anyone thinking about playing here. Once was enough for me.
Nice track
Mill Valley is def a challenging course. Some tight fairways and a lot of doglegs make track fun to play but course conditions not great at all. It was mid October so there was lots of leaves and pine needles totally covering a lot of the greens. Staff should be out early with leaf blowers in AM like other courses. Overall, it's a decent course for the money. Will play again.
pace of play was terrible
Pace of play was horrible. They had players stacked up just waiting to tee off on the first tee. It was obvious that they were trying to jam as many players as possible . Obviously this was to make more profit, but it made playing an extremely frustrating experience. This was on a weekday, so I cannot imaging what it would be like on a weekend.
Worth Trying Out
As an intermediate senior golfer I found the course to be challenging and fun. You have to be pretty precise with your shots or you can get into a lot of trouble with narrow fairways and thick woods. The course is very hilly and has some pretty views. For me a cart was a must, not a course for walking unless you are very fit. It is the type of course that makes you want to come back because you just know you can do better. I recommend trying it out. At Golf Now's price of$10 for 18 holes with a cart how can you beat it?
2015.10.04
Overall not satisfied. The course was overbooked. No course management. Should have been a starter and some golfers should have been sent off the back.
Walked off the course after 12 holes and won't be returning any time soon
fun at mill valley
GREAT VALUE FOR THE PRICE. A NUMBER OF UNIQUE HOLES. A GOOD DEAL OF IMPROVEMENTS BEING MADE, MOSTLY NEW TEE BOXES WHICH WEREN'T OPEN YET BUT LOOK LIKE THEY WILL BE SOON. BIG FUN TO PLAY, ALTHOUGH BEST TO PLAY WITH SOMEONE FAMILIAR WITH THE COURSE AS KNOWING WHAT CLUB TO HIT WILL HELP.
Great track
Took yearly trip up to central Mass and played this course 10 years ago.
Well worth the 45 minute drive and best golfing experience ever.
Scenic views, great pace of play, lush rough, and greens that rolled well.
Hats off to the staff and cannot wait to come back and play this course again on my next vacation
Great place to play
I have played Mill Valley for a couple of years now. The course is always in good condition and the staff is always friendly. The food is great and for the cost you cant beat the deal.
Rock Valley
Tee boxes were terrible, greens were inconsistent. Some spots heavy wetness but to be expected at this time.
Can't beat $15 for 18 and a cart, but be prepared to be treated poorly for booking through Golfnow, Had to wait 20 mins for a cart key for no apparent reason; had to wait for other groups with no tee time to tee off, who arrived after our group. Got on course 20 mins after our reservation as a result of both factors
Very challenging course
After reading many reviews on Golfnow.com about their bad experiences with the staff here at Mill Valley, I must admit I was a bit hesitant when going into the pro shop.
Unlike many of the reviews, the pro was very friendly and quite helpful. In fact, we got there early and he let us go off right away.
The course is in very good condition - especially the greens - and was a difficult, yet fair test of golf.
I will definitely come back next year when it's warm and not quite so cold.
I strongly recommend this course to all golfers as this course will make you use all of the clubs in your bag and test your putting skills on greens that are big, fast and undulating.
PS - It's a "family owned" course that makes it even more special as too many courses these days are "corporate-like" in nature.
Course has a lot of scenic views
Course is very tight so you have to hit the fairway or loose your ball in the woods but the views are amazing the only thing I would complain about is there isn't much for a pro shop and some spots on the course the ground is kind of hard
Hidden Gem
Tucked away in Belchertown Mass is a hidden gem of a course. Some really beautiful holes with very tough greens - very fast and anything but level. Some of the tee boxes were being rebuilt but other than that in very good shape. This is the second time I've played it and enjoyed it both times. Definitely inexpensive. I'll be back!! By the way they flip-flopped the front and back . I have no idea why.
