Happily Impressed
Just moved my home around the corner from this place. Was hoping it was as good as they say since my new proximity to the course makes it the perfect place to get a membership. I was not disappointed when I tried it out for the first time. Conditions were near perfect. The greens were tough. Very undulating in general, with steep slopes on many...and quick. Took me awhile, but I started to figure them out after 3-putting 3 of the first 5 greens!
All the staff I came in contact with were very friendly and helpful. The practice area is very good, the range really nice with actual target greens/pins, not just flags. It looks almost as nice as the course itself. The views on this beautiful autumn day were gorgeous. The only negative I can come up with was that the pace of play should have been better on a light Monday, but all it takes is one slow foursome and no rangers for that to happen. Evidently there are rarely rangers on duty during lighter days. I understand the business reasons for having no rangers on light days, but if they had a ranger there is nothing negative that can be said about this place. Okay, maybe one small thing. Their carts need some updating and the GPS units are not the most up-to-date with all the bells and whistles and color illustrations that other really nice courses might have. No big deal for me, as I generally use a rangefinder anyway. However, I do appreciate and take advantage of some of the benefits of GPS if they are on the carts.
In any case, Worthington passed my test and I will surely be purchasing a yearly membership shortly. Though there are many other really great courses in the area to play---and I will certainly take advantage of most of them in the future---having a place like Worthington to be my home course and daily practice facility is going to be pretty nice.
Awesome staff
Left my slingback on cart #25. Came back for it after 30 mins and they found it in cart . Safely returned to me. Appreciated the assistance by the young man who man the cart. Thanks
Awesome and challenging course
Played with a foursome on 11/16/23 on a mid 60 degree day. Course was in great condition from tee to green. The layout is challenging with tight fairways but very fun to play. Greens were extremely fast with a ton of undulations and very difficult. Once we got the hang of the speed, we rolled them a lot better. I’ll definitely add it to my list of Western MD courses to play.
Course is in Great Shape
Beautiful course and great amenities. Course was in tip-top shape.
Worthington Manor Worthy
Course is in great condition and beautiful views with the leaves changing colors. Pace of play is as expected on a weekend and foursomes allowing twosomes to play thru.
Difficult course, below average facilities
Worthington Manor is a very challenging course for first time players; big elevation changes, extremely fast greens, thick unforgiving rough and lots of blind shots. It charges premium greens fees, which must go into course maintenance because the off-course facilities aren't in keeping with a premium experience. The golf carts are old, dusty and should be replaced or refurbished. The range is cramped; you have to step forward from the mats to be able to sink a tee into the ground to hit driver, which just feels dangerous. The range should probably be renovated, perhaps with low nets to keep balls from rolling into the first hole, or moved to another part of the property if there's space. The cart paths have lots of potholes. So I like the course and want to play it again now that I have some local knowledge, but considering the $110 greens fees, the overall experience feel a bit muni-like.
Great course
First time I played there but will be back asap! Course was in very good shape except one tee box on a par 3 was rounded up. Greens are unforgiving. Putt & chip right or it’s coming back to sender. I played with a member who was able to give me tips on the course, he was a great help & an even better golfer. I didn’t play exceptionally well but had a great time. Then had a burger at the grill which was 10/10. I’m looking to get back out there this week. If you appreciate a great course, play it, don’t hesitate.
