Great course on the eastern shore
The aeration was a lot better today. Course is in good shape. Some wet fairways on a few holes but in good condition otherwise. can't wait to play next week with my family.
Course just aerated. Stay away for next few weeks!
The course layout is great and never to busy. But green we're just aerated and back nine was closed. Don't play here for the next few weeks or you will be upset per not being able to putt on greens until aeration goes away.
A Gem in the Rough
Very nice public course! You get your money's worth! Beautiful scenery and tougher than what it looks holes. I got my first eagle ever in nearly twenty years of playing!!
good find
Was staying in OC and found this course on golf now.
It is about an hour drive all highway. The course is very links style. High grasses line a lot of fairways with trees on some holes also. Fairways in excellent shape and lush. Had trouble finding balls in rough its pretty thick. Greens are very good, tees level and good grass on them also.. Sand was well maintained and playable. Think i will score much better on a 2nd try as position is important on a lot of holes. Overall very fine course and well worth the money.
Great Course but some of the staff is awful
First of all I want to state that I play this course regularly. This review is just for this one time I played at Great Hope even though the following gentleman's attitude is usually poor every time I come .
So I came in to play as a single and hoping to hop on with someone else. I came into the pro shop and Dave (I believe that's his name) checked me in. I asked him if there was anyone I could join up with. He stated "I dunno, im here to check you in not to find someone for you to play with". in a very rude manner. Previously though I came in and checked in with a young guy named Mark and he was very nice and accommodating and at least tried to find someone for me to play with. So I get the key from Dave and go to the putting green and putt for a little while until a twosome comes up and lets me join them. (Hmmm you think Dave could have told me a twosome was just behind me). The course was in good condition besides a few spots here and there and the pace was phenomenal. After 9 holes we come in and get some food from the kitchen and are served by a nice and friendly woman.(For anyone who doesn't know the food here is amazing). We finished 18 holes and I decide to come in a get a drink and check to see if there was an opening to play next week. I see Dave sitting on the couch dead ASLEEP. Are you kidding me!!! I just said screw it and walked out because I didn't feel like dealing with waking that guy up and having to listen to his grumblings.
Now this happened a little over a month ago and I was going to let it go but I came in again last week and of course its Dave checking me in. So I paid and asked him some questions about the cart rules and how much play was out there. It seemed like he didn't want to be bothered with any questions and just kinda answered my questions quickly to get me out the door. To me golf is a customer service industry as much as it is about the golf course and it seems like this guy wants nothing to do with the customers at all. He just wants to check you in and get you out of his face. I cant say I wont be back because I know I will but I can say that I hope I never have to deal with this man again!
Henry review
I enjoyed everything about Great Hope except the head pro. He is very unfriendly and acts like he doesn't want to be there. He needs to be replaced.
Henry's Review
My only suggestion is that the head pro could be more friendly and accommodating. The assistant pro, Mark, is great and hopefully will be promoted in the near future.
My name is Jack Skilling, PGA and I am the PGA Head Professional at Great Hope Golf Course. I want to apologize to "Henry's Review" for anything I may have done or said to keep his golf experience from being 100% positive. I have for my entire 25 year golf business career endeavored to provide consistent and friendly and professional service and have never had negative response from anyone I have come in contact with. But, I am human and with that comes the potential isolated time or 2, particularly if it's very early in the morning, where my energy level could be low and I do not perform at my best. However, I assure you that those times are short-lived. So I would ask that you introduce yourself to me and I will apologize in person and work to show you that whatever I did to upset you is not the norm. I look forward to meeting you in person at your convenience. Have a great Holiday Season!! Jack
Good Deal
Great Hope is always in very good condition and well maintained. Greens are a little slow running about a 5. That's the only part of the course that could be made better, speed up the greens.
Great course on eastern shore
Greens were not to fast. Fairways were nice and cut. Course was in good shape and pace of play in the morning was fast.
A Gem in the Rough
Great Hope is a wonderful course that various in conditions depending on what hole that you're on. It has some wide open fairways and others that are tight. Water is everywhere and the wildlife is abundant! Bring your camera. Bunkers are strategically placed making your approach shots more difficult, but doable.
It is easy to get to, just barely 3 miles off Rt. 13 South on Rt. 413. I look forward to playing there again.
Challenging and Fun Course
Perfect weather for golf outing. Great Hope is a fun and challenging course. Good overall value. Plan to play again.
Good Course, Pro Shop person Rude
This review is actually from this past summer. I decided not to do this when it happened because I didn't want to create a account but this guy was rude again when I went there so I said screw it. My friend and I were playing in the afternoon, like 4 pm start or something. We and getting through the course easily and we are on the back nine with a couple holes to go. We hit our drives and go to our balls then this cart approaches us with the old guy who checked us in. He tells us to follow him and that we are done for the night. We paid for 18 holes and we only had a couple more to go. When we took our bags to our cars it was only 7:25 and it gets dark at 8:30 during the summer. Whoever this guy is (old, shorter with grey hair) doesn't understand that golf courses don't close until dark even if we are the last ones out there.
Great course
Overall conditions are great! Greens and fairways are in good condition. But you better keep the ball in the fairway! If you get just off the edge it's hard to find your ball. Grass is very deep and all you can see ( if you find it ) is the very top. Difficult to even punch it back into the fairway. Very challenging course.
Mr. Skilling, Thank you for reaching out to me. I would like to admit that I wasn't having a good day before I got to the golf course and I played awful when I got started. The interaction I had was poor but did not deserve the extremely harsh review. I believe that the bad day and poor golf following checking in gave me some resentment and therefore I lashed out. I love the golf course there and will be back.
