Open scenic courss
The course is fun, but is long. Took us 5 hours to play 18, we weren't playing slow. So budget the time in to your day.
Best Kept Secret on the Eastern Shore
Always enjoy playing Great Hope, Somerset County's best kept secret. Challenging for all levels; scenic, peaceful and usually lush unless there's a heatwave. It's a links style course with bunkers, water and plenty of geese. There are also several holes where trees do come into play. Tell your friends but not all of them, we don't want it too crowded.
Great course!
Very Windy! The GPS will take you the wrong way, double check directions.
Hope
course was wet but still very playable. Food and service was great.
This course is in very good shape.
Great Hope Golf Course is a great value, in good shape and a good challenge. if your in the area or booking a vacation near by, I recommend it as one of your stops.
Pleased,
Golfer
Pace of Play and Course Condition were excellent
The course is in very good condition. Usually the pace of play is excellent. Two of us finished our round in under 3 hours. The staff has always been friendly and very helpful.
Great Hidden Gem
My friend has played this course before and recommended we give it a try. this was truly a hidden gem. The conditions were very good with fairly open fairways but some holes made you think. Greens were true and ball rolled well. Overall would highly recommend and whenever in the area agia will be on the list to play.
Best kept secret on the Eastern Shore
You can spend over a $100 on some of the golf courses near Ocean City or you can spend less to play this course. Well kept up, hole location can be tricky, and the course has some long par 4s even from the white tees. This course is well worth the drive if you're staying near the beaches. You can almost play three rounds for the price of Some OC courses. Great Hope is a pleasant way to spend time playing golf.
just some good-old down-home basic golf on a great course
This course was awesome, really. It reminded me of one of my favorite courses before it got sold and chewed up into condos.
Flat, long, wide-open, some trees but not overbearing, water in play on about half the holes, basic fairways, some bunkers here and there but not too much, great grass, very modest tabletop greens and even then just a few were elevated, good moderately-fast but ultra smooth greens without a bunch of weird breaks and easy to make long puts on them. Just a killer basic course. And. .......no.............houses. There is just one small house just off #14 I guess it is, way on the back of the course. This is Old School golf at its finest. Be warned that the right side of #1 and the left side of I guess it is #14 where the house is, is OB. Nice clubhouse, decent food and were it not way out south of DC in Somerset County and a 3-hour drive just to get there I would play this more than a few times. Awesome. I played it on Saturday and every hole had a 4some but still pace of play was great.
Best value on the Eastern Shore
Always my first choice, if not for the distance to get there. During spring, if average rainfall, the fairways & greens are as good as any you'll find anywhere. The rates are a true bargain. And a little secret, if you enjoy Saturday afternoon twilight, there's good chance you'll practically have the place to yourself as you come down the final holes. Beware of large snappers that occasionally cross the fairways to lay their eggs in spring.
Great course
The course was in pretty good shape, considering it was January. Actually, the course was in great shape. The staff were very friendly and accommodating The price was awesome!.
Hidden Gem on the Lower Shore
Never disappointed with this course. It is always in great shape, even in the winter. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. Several groups were in front of us, so they let us begin on the back nine to avoid any back up. The grill is open and has some good sandwiches. Very down to earth people at this course which is nice. The course is very playable and most holes are open, so any errant shots are still playable. The wind can also be a major factor on windy days. This course has a good mixture of holes that you can score on, and some difficult holes. Hole #1 starts you off with an easy beginning and then the difficult hole #2 comes up. Some of the other difficult holes for me are #5, a long 400 yard plus par 4 with a tee shot over water. The par 5 #11 is long and tough. Nothing like crushing your drive and still sitting 300 yards out, and then things get very narrow around the green. Then #18 is a tough finishing hole with a ditch running in front of the green. I enjoy this course as it is worth the ride and reasonably priced. Usually you can see eagles, hawks, and herons roaming the course as well.
the corse can play as short or as long as you want
with five tee boxes this course will play to anyone's game and the greens are always true and on the large side
Great Value
Owned by County and very well maintained greens a bit slow. course was empty as we played on Tuesday afternoon a few blind tee shots would like to play again now that my husband & I know there to put the tee shot.
Great course
The course was a little wet from rain the night before but dried out quickly. The greens and course were in excellent shape.
they are doing better..much better.
....the last time we played they were having trouble with bookings. This time they sent us of the back 9 to avoid 2 foursomes...which made the more enjoyable. This is a wonderful course and the staff is more than just helpfull..they are genuinely friendly and it shows. the pro, David, went out of his way this time to make sure that my husband and I would come back and we will.
Well maintained
Great Hope is a great links style course and is in great condition. I have played it often so I don't want to make this review too good or the play will increase substantially. Just kidding. If you're in the area of the Eastern Shore of MD, definitely include this one in your itinerary.
Nice Course, Mess on the Tee Time
I have played this course many times. For years now, it has been one of my favorites because it's kept in great condition. Only issue I had on the day was the fact I bought a 9:45 tee time and when I got to the course, a group of 14 was starting on the first hole at 9:35. After them was a foursome of women, then there was a twosome that bought their tee time online for 0940. We didn't get off until 10:20 or so. While the employee in the pro shop had us down for the 9:45 tee time, they apparently give preferential treatment to those showing up at the course without tee times. While we saved money on the round, we were treated like red-headed step children when it came to getting off on or near our scheduled tee time.
