Agawam Municipal Golf Course
About
Agawam Municipal Golf Course has been a favorite among local golfers since first opening in 1944. It has a traditional layout that offers a few challenges but it's still player friendly enough for golfers of any skill levels. The holes are fairly straightforward but the gently rolling hills provide some subtly tricky elevation changes. There isn't any water on the golf course but there are mature trees lining the fairways. While it may not be what you're looking for if you're an avid golfer who wants a truly formidable test, Agawam Municipal Golf Course is not to be under-estimated. The greens can be tricky to pitch to and accuracy will take you far. This municipal course is a great spot for a quick and casual round that's also affordable.

Hole No. 17
Hole No. 17 is the most challenging hole on the course.

It's not fair when U get skipped by members. Then they have little kids running around. Very dangerous
Great experience and value
This is my second year playing Agawam Muni, and it’s becoming one of my go-to courses. The staff and other players are always friendly and the atmosphere is very chill and enjoyable. The course is relatively well maintained throughout the season, even the very beginning and the very end. The course is manageable yet still challenging. The tough greens on the front 9, and the elevation changes on the back 9 (hole #9 as well) keeps things interesting through the round.
The clubhouse is quite casual and there are no frills, but is as good or better than many other municipal courses I’ve played. The back patio overlooking the practice green and surrounding hills is a great place to start and finish a round of golf that has always left me feeling like I got a lot for my money.
A Worthwhile Outing
This course links two different nines–one open, the other tight and woodsy. The open side is the front, and while it isn’t a pushover, several holes allow for good birdie opportunities, even though things do toughen up at the long par-5 eighth and tough uphill ninth, a brutal par-3 for its modest length. The back nine may test the patience of even very proficient golfers, especially on the difficult eleventh and the tricky twelfth–both of them woodlined par-4s with hard approach shots. Then there is the angular par-5 sixteenth, which can prove punishing in the event that you miss the fairway. All in all, it’s a decent test for a short golf course, but also a very good value when conditions are closer to optimal.
Conditions today were typical of early December, ranging from fair to average. The greens, puttable but not nearly as smooth as they are here in-season, seemed more receptive to a firm tap if you expected to hole short putts. Recent rains also made for a very wet course and rendered pitching around the greens difficult. The fairways were essentially playable.
Even though I hardly cruised around playing smoothly today, I managed a few spurts of good golf, so the round still felt worthwhile here at Agawam.

A morning round at Agawam
Overall was a good round. Nice day. A little hot. Only complaint, was that the starter let 3 twosomes in a row tee off, rather than making foursomes. It slowed the round down. Due to the rain the previous day, and night, the course was alittle wet, so the rough was long, and the greens were slow. Nice municipal course.

Pace of play
Course is very well-maintained and very nice. Staff was great however, extremely disappointing that so many golfers there had no golf etiquette.
Started off very slow as a twosome with a young boy. We’re teaching the boy how to fake off. However, they were courteous because there was a force him in front of them that appear to just be there for the party.
The twosome let us in front so we were not following that for some. They were men in their 30s. As we cheat off of the ninth hole, those men were up at the 10th Teebox. Once we finished the ninth off, those men were still there, but somebody ran into the bar for more alcohol. We sat waiting, while those for some teed off and two of those men hit a second shot. They played super slow, could barely hit the ball and didn’t even consider letting anyone through we quit at the 10th off even though we had paid for 18, which was very disappointing, will not go back.
